I’ve made more money in the market in the last three years than I had in the previous twelve. The only thing that scares me is how much longer can it go?

Just remember the slower growth numbers you see and some declining earnings are after 20-25% earnings jumps the previous year because of the tax cuts. Comparisons were tough.

People still should be cautious and stick to their plan and not get caught up in all buzz.

Any particular strategy?

Just holding some big winners most likely.

I only buy the VOO at the 50 and 200 day moving averages, so sometimes you have to be patient. I've been able to do that a pretty good bit especially late last year and some this year. I like to at least get that market exposure as my largest position. No sense in trying to outsmart the market by going all individual stocks imo, but if you pick good stocks in a good market year while owning a large portion of your portfolio tied to the market (VOO, SPY), you can dramatically outperform the market averages has been my experience.

I've been long WMT, AAPL, PEP and VOO and others at times. My spec has been SRPT - love that company. APHA is a new one I'm treating as a spec.

I think it’s just getting started. Wish I had more cash to push in. Turns out, having a business man as CEO for the country makes sense. The Don’s wet dream of cutting regs to sky rocket his portfolio is paying off in spades for every American.

you must be a citizen, which I guess she is,

and born in the USA...

She was born in the US, is over 35, and has lived in the US for the prior 14 years.
Those are the 3 requirements to run...and she meets them.

You and doggie daddy know she cant... but I don't understand why she can't.

Not sure if its paying off for every american...or even the majority of americans.

His administration has been able to continue the market growth that the last administration established after inheriting the worst economic situation in 8 decades.

...or has the fed, which vocally does not follow trump's demands, helped keep the market rolling?

There is a significant difference between a healthy stock market and a healthy economy.
And there is a significant difference between a growing stock market and a rise in economic stability for all classes of society.
The divide is greater now than basically any time in the last 60 years. Exponential growth at the top is not an accurate way to determine economic success of a country.

But hey, my retirement is growing, so 17 the rest of it!

Lets revisit some of Candidate Trump’s quotes on the stock market gains in 2015 and 2016....

“They worked all their lives to save and now what happens is they’re being forced into an inflated stock market and at some point they’ll get wiped out,” Mr. Trump told The Hill in October 2015 regarding American workers.

“The only thing that is strong is the artificial stock market,” Mr. Trump told Reuters.

“Remember the word bubble? You heard it here first. I don’t want to sound rude, but I hope if it explodes, it’s going to be now, rather than two months into another administration,” Mr. Trump said in December 2015.

“The only thing that looks good is the stock market, but if you raise interest rates even a little bit, that’s going to come crashing down,” Mr. Trump said. “We are in a big, fat, ugly bubble.”

“I think we’re sitting on an economic bubble. A financial bubble,” Mr. Trump said.

There is a 100% chance that the Fed is going to drop rates at the next meeting. Take it for what it’s worth.

Also I will say, if I’m a Democrat that has lasting appeal. Why run in this cycle? It’s clear that the economy is going to dip in the next six years. If you are a politician that wants to be on top wait until 2024 that’s when the rebound will happen.

A huge part of the story in how the stock market is performing are the corporate tax cuts. Unfortunately rather than hiring or investing in R&D the large majority of corporations bought back stock, which inflates share prices. It’s a rational thing for companies to do with the extra cash, but it wasn’t what was promised and the tax cuts are fueling record deficits, up over 20% year over year.

We’ve put this economy on the credit card. Eventually we’ll have to pay the bill.

Dropping interest rates probably won't supercharge things at this point but may

prevent a correction but if the Stable Genuius gets a favorable trade done with China then the market should be a very good place to be.

Yes, very true. Nice point. Further highlights how the market performing well is separate from what should be the measure here- positive widespread economic impact.

The impact right now is narrow and deep- significantly benefitting few.
What we need is wide and ahallow- because as a %, that will significantly benefit the many.

But hey, I'm apparently just a knowitall socialist soyboy cuck.

There are a bunch of unions, teachers’ union pensions, government workers unions and the like that have 50-60% of their assets invested in this stock market, so it’s been a good ride for a whole bunch of folks besides just wealthy individual investors.

We haven't seen employment levels like these in decades and it is making a

difference in a lot of peoples lives at all levels. We are at the lowest level of food stamp recipients in decades and blacks and other minorities are working in jobs that pay better than they ever have. I see it in my company and it's exciting to see.

I realize the Stable Genius drives a lot of people crazy with his antics and personality but the guys does try to keep his promises and he does understand how the economy and business work and how to make it hum. He also surrounds himself with some pretty good economic advisers.

Trump isn’t a fiscal conservative. It’s going to be a disaster of epic proportions. Question is when? And who will be blamed?

I'm not holding winners, I'm actively trading. My theory is that you don't make or lose money until you sell. My goal is to make 2% off a trade, if I buy a stock for $100 I will set an automatic sell at $102. I may buy it again in a few days at $105 and set a sell at $108. Most people look at that as I only made $5 where I could have made $8 but I look at it this way. If I am still holding it a $108 and haven't sold then I have MADE anything yet. I look for stocks that move regularly, both up and down. I subscribe to a news letter from David Hanson with The Motley Fool, he makes recommendations of stocks that he believes are good buys. I will casually look through his list and if something interests me I may buy 10 shares just to get it on my portfolio page just to do a little further research. I rarely sell a stock without getting my 2%, it may take a while but eventually most will get back to a profit. I buy some stinkers too, I am currently holding 10000 shares of some energy company that I bought and sold a dozen times, the last time I bought at 7.28 and its currently listed at .005 and trading is suspended. I made it up elsewhere and who knows, somebody may come along and buy the company. I made 47% in 2017 but last year I just didn't have the time to devote to it and only made 27%. I'm currently up 18% for this year.

Old rules have changed and they don't mean anything now. The people who preach all this economics on cable news on what you should do and not due are people who been stuck in Washington living in the bubble saying things that gets them invited to DC parties and I am convince they don't know ****. Trump has gone against all conventional thinking and it is working.

Say what you want about Trump but he has not been in that bubble. He's been out in the world making money and really seeing how things work and he has called Bull **** on a lot of the stuff you hear on cable news.

My two cents: I have a data science consulting company and have been fortunate enough to do predictive analytics/forecasting for a handful of companies who's business's are strongly tied to the economy and have annual revenues bt $900M and $6B (heavy equipment dealers that serve mining, construction and energy industries).

I've been able to get my hands on some fascinating data. Anyway, this thing ain't slowing down in 2020. Haven't analyzed beyond that fwiw. I could see the stock market flattening in 2020 being an election year. But the underlying economic principles of the current economy are as strong as I've ever seen. There's no evidence that it's only the stock market that is thriving.

I started to pull stats that are current and completely disagree with your assertions, but stopped. Please just understand there is a difference between unemployed and underemployed.
Also, please understand that if the average pay for the bottom 85% of a group increases by 10%, but the average pay for 15% of the group increases by 25%, the gap has expanded even though average pay has increased. The overall pay growth is 12.25%, yet 85% of people were under that. Furthermore, 15% of the group received 30% of the overall pay bump. This is what is happening right now, and a sample size of what you see around you simply isnt an accurate representation of...most anything when it comes to a national employment discussion. You may be seeing your company finally pay minorities wages that are better than they ever have been, but even while that happens, the wealth gap can continue to widen.

Ok, Ill try to be out on this now.

I do agree it's not optimal to have the gap in wealth we have in this country

today and it certainly makes sense to increase taxes on the super wealthy, hell they are practically begging the governement to do so. We do need to do something about the gap in Executive Pay/Entertainers/Sportspeople pay and the average to below average man but I'm not sure how to do it through redistribution/handouts as that ends up aggravating the problem in the long run as we struggle today from the noble but misguided Great Society policies of the 1960's.

Trust me I'm for seeing everyone succeed and no one in this country should be in poverty but the laws of nature can be a *****.

To give a little reference on why I feel the way I do, when i left MSU in 1982 and started by first job I was $10,500 in debt due to student loans and the fact that I wanted to be in a fraternity which was a great decision in retrospect. I had no family wealth and no connections to get me ahead at all but I did have a good education and a work ethic and I got along very well with all sorts of people. With that start and at the age of 59 I've been very blessed to have accumulated a nice net worth and I want to make sure the same dream I had is available for my children and everyone else in this country regardless of race, gender, sexual stauts or social status.

There is no magic wand and no perfect form of government but history has proven our system is the best in the world for pulling people out of poverty so why do we want to screw it up.

but three gay dudes working at starbucks in iowa are having trouble making ends meet and paying off their 6 figure student loans for their gender studies degrees, so clearly your data is wrong. (do I really need sarcasterisks?)

I disagree with the logic here. The point of a strong economy is not to close gaps between income groups. The point is to increase the likelihood of employment for all individuals, and increase their individual income. And as you've indicated, that's happening across the board.

The issue of income gaps is entirely separate from a healthy economy. In fact, there's a strong argument that the top 15% as you mentioned are also responsible for employing millions of people. Those companies need to be healthy in order to continue employing people and conducting R&D for long term health.
