I don’t go to Memphis much anymore. This doesn’t help.

Out of curiosity, in what way is it "slowly being eradicated from the search engines"? It really could not be easier to find on Google.

I'll add that most of these cities around here are the same. I'm all for these nice downtown areas but if people go down there expecting it to be a utopian family-friendly environment then they've been seriously duped.

If you type in “Memphis Teen Assault + Firework” in Google, dozens of articles pop up.

That's pretty specific. Seems to me like it should be on Commercial Appeal's front page, at minimum, to warn people. And it's certainly not "dozens" of articles. Most of them are from WREG alone.

You and dorndawg are part of that problem, for sure. I mean, it really should be on FNC and CNN. Throwing fireworks at kids, and then beating their parents to a pulp? What type of world are we living in where this is normal?

Memphis has also had 25+ shootings involving people riding in their cars on 240 and 385 since Jan 1 that has been kept on the down low... I don’t know if it is gang related, serial shooters, hate crimes etc but most are not road rage.

Thank garbage city leadership in both places. And sadly that will never change.

Police officers not getting paid, benefits and retirement are a joke. Money appropriations are handled by people like Kenny Stokes who just earlier this year encouraged people to throw rocks and bottles at officers. Think about it. That man has a lifetime job. All he's got to do is put his name on the ballot. Memphis has their own versions of him. Bunch of retreads that will never be voted out.

Kids are dumb. Kids with no role models or good home training are dumber.
A pack of teenagers is the worst possible thing cause the guys start trying to one up the other and dumb **** like this happens.
Charge as many as possible. Sadly won’t change a damn things

What problem is it I am a part of? "People who can use Google at the most basic level"?

But they took down the Forrest statue?

I thought that was causing the problems with the city. I’m so confused. #MEMentum

I know my parents would’ve beaten me worse than what that lady got if I had tried any of that... oh, I see the problem.

It's normal in a world where 15-16 year olds can do big boy crimes but not get big boy punishments. At most some liberal judge will give them an hour of community service. Same with the constant shootings on the interstates. Everyone is pushing for an automatic attempted murder charge, which it is, but there isn't a single judge in Memphis that has taken that measure. They'd rather give lenient charges like reckless endangerment. The whole problem lies within the courts.

Agree and that should be a news story itself. Why are we giving these guys a pass? Why isn't it being talked about?

Your anger is misdirected. Judges do not decide what crime will be charged, prosecutors do.

Forrest sucked *** as a person and deserved to have his statue brought down and this has nothing to do with the event mentioned in the OP.

Aside from the fact that thousands of dollars were paid to remove it that could

have been allocated to putting more patrol on the streets. Let alone the never ending legal battle costs.

That's a reality that must be accepted by people like me. I can't change it, and I don't have money to invest into a city to make it better (yet).

My question is, why do people think it's 100% safe to take your kids out to those public areas? I would not do it without a gun. I mean, I get it, some places are safer than others, but anywhere where a roaming pack of kids can throw fireworks at people without police interference is not somewhere I'd have my kids at 8 pm. Are they really that indoctrinated that they believe in these utopian ideals, that people aren't bad? I mean the evidence is right there.

You are correct on that. I was mainly talking about the punishment phase. The shooting part of it was something that needs to be taken up in the state legislature.

The big difference is in spite all of their crime and other NUMEROUS short comings Memphis is still a viable city. Jackson is just a large third world type town now.

Saw an article the other day where Memphis had 7 shootings in 24 hours with three fatalities. And these were not all in the same neighborhood. They were scattered across the city. Memphis and Jackson are two cities I visit as little as humanly possible.

Fireworks on the river is an annual tradition in Memphis and people should expect it to be family friendly. Your take is idiotic but par for the course.

The response in the article that there was ample police presence is not true or there wouldn’t have been this issue.

You can’t expect to read about this in the commercial appeal because they are still too busy fueling the fire over the thug that US marshals killed a couple of month ago. We gotta have breathless coverage about candlelight vigils and how great of a high school student he was. You’re not going to get hard-hitting news from that rag.
