Actually, his last 2, and 3 of his last 4 appearances have been good. In those 3 games he gave up just 2 hits in 3.2 innings vs LSU, Central Michigan & Auburn. No runs.

Barlow was the idiotic decision. Self has been ok lately. To be honest, I thought we should have gone to Gordon immediately after Plumlee.

This was the game you had to win. There is a “tomorrow” but it’s meaningless, especially with our arm situation.

Self served up a double play ball.... Allen/Lemo goofed that up... even little league you know to go to plate on a ball hit to either 1st or 3rd and that point should have reinforced to the infield during the pitching change by Lemo.

Self made no attempt to cover first. Once Allen threw the ball to second, Foscue looked at first and no one was there. Not sure they would have got him but big mental miscue by Self.

Self didn’t cover because he was shocked by the throw. I was shocked Westburg was there to receive the throw. Wound up not mattering. There is absolutely no shot at a 3-2-3 dp there.

To add, Self got completely shelled in the super regional against Vandy last year. He’s not a good matchup against them.

Absolutely. Tanner is great and he just made a mistake. One he probably won’t make again. He knew it right away. The most baffling part of the whole play was tanner was playing on the grass. Why in the world did he think he was playing in?

It was a tough DP either way but with the home to first play there was potential for Allen to go back and cover first after the throw himself. Main thing at the time was to prevent the run from scoring. No doubt Self should have been moving to cover first regardless, really his only responsibility on the play. Now if you don't get the DP I guess the point is moot because the next batter's HR would have been a grand slam instead of a 3 run shot and the score is the same.

Didn't Colby White throw one to the backstop on his first couple of pitches? But that is much better than giving up a HR with ducks on the pond.

Good question. You are correct that we use guys that have shown themselves to be much less reliable than White seemingly much more often.
