So, what do we do for him if he gets us to the finals?

Anyone think we have to put him over 1 mil ?

I think he needs a substantial raise regardless at this point. I know people will say that he came in with a stacked roster.

But he convinced JT to come to State. And the SEC Coaches picked MSU to finish sixth in the West. Not in the conference. In only the West. They finished ahead of everyone except Vandy and Arkansas. Tied with Arkansas and barely behind Vandy.

We were pretty stacked in football and basketball too, and didn't exactly set the world on fire.

Maybe stacked is a strong word. How about preseason #18 AP?
Ok. I see we were talking about different things.

I was talking about Lemonis as a first year coach and what he walked into. You brought up Moorhead (first year coach) and what he walked in to. When you brought up Basketball I thought you meant the roster that Howland was handed his first year. It was definitely not #18 in the country back then. haha

Give Lemo $500k of Joe's salary from
last year, and tell Joe...."that's how you deal with expectations".

I do believe Lemonis' salary issues are best handled by the athletic director and ex head coach. Lemonis received a significant pay increase compared to what he made in Indiana when he took our job. I'm sure he has salary increases built into his 4 year contract. His resume simply does not compare to the top 3 on the list. If Lemonis can recruit and continue winning, I imagine he will be in the million dollar coach's club in a few years.

He has not earned a 400,000 annual increase. A 50k bonus would be a nice reward plus the raise built into his contract. Let’s see how he does going forward before we go crazy with money just because we have it. With time he will make bigger money. We better reward his two assistants with bonuses and salary increases. Give Luke some of that money, too.

Shouldn't he be at least competitive with Butch Johnson? And weren't we trying to get McDonnell and even Corbin?

Surprised Martin is paid so little since he's been there just about forever.

I’d say give him in the ball park of a $100k raise and a good bonus.

Give assistants a big raise and a big bonus.

Corbin’s compensation is higher than the figure listed... it is actually around $2Mil + now with bonuses... one thing that will leave a mark, Bianco is around $1.2 Mil....

Didn’t Coach Butch Johnson’s used to coach in Starksville as a pitching coach for the University of Mississippi State under Ron Coins.

Those are just the base public numbers. That doesn’t include private donations and all that. He makes more than 600K.

I figure he's already got some bonus's written in his contract for regional, super regional, CWS and winning it all.

No doubt. Butch's listed salary did jump off the list to me as one of those "what the..." moments. Butch is a great guy, and I'm happy for him. After Cohen apparently swung and missed on his top targets, I was slightly surprised that he didn't go after Butch. Many of us (myself included) would have been disappointed with that hire though after Cohen's own comments had us expecting a bombshell hire. That would not have been fair to Butch at all. Then we hired Lemonis, and that had the feel of "wow, something went completely wrong here" to it. This year's team was LOADED though, and things went fine. Throwing extra dollars at a head coach would likely have made no difference on this season. It is the future that in unclear, but hopefully it will be extremely bright. Pay our hitting coach and pitching coach great salaries to keep them on board another season or two. Lemonis will get his just compensation in due time, and that time might be sooner than even he expected.

No wonder we didn’t go after butch, that’s some high cotton there!

With back to back CWS appearances, Tradition, Stadium and fans, we should be able to recruit any player in the country we want!! My expectations - CWS annually!

This is not a complex issue at all. Look at the guys above Lemonis on the list. Going into the season, every coach above him had at least a Super Regional on the resume (which he did not have), and 5 of 6 had multiple (all 3+) Omaha appearances. Lemonis will get a raise based on this season based on joining the club. My guess is Cohen puts him in the ballpark of where he himself was when he stopped coaching, but we’ll see.

I wonder if people give raises as generously in real life as they do on the internet.

Not sure if you’re agreeing or disagreeing, but I should probably augment the previous statement by saying where Cohen was after 2013. There is inflation in college baseball coaching industry just like everywhere else, so I think a top 5ish salary 6 years ago is nothing close to that now. My point (which may have been poorly conveyed) was he should get a sizeable raise, but not neccesarily Top 5ish money unless he wins a NC. Top 10 salary nationally seems about right, keeping in mind that is only Top 7 or Top 8 in the SEC alone.

Regardless, Cohen made the correct moves on raises for both Vic and Moorhead, so I have no doubt he’ll do the same here. It’s kind of a moot discussion.

I'm good with him getting a raise but it should be for a better reason that the fact that his SEC coaching peers are idiots. Anyone with half a brain should have known we were going to be better than 6th in the West this year. And that was true before the season started and most of us on this board said so at the time.

If I remember correctly Butch came out early in the coaching search and said he wasn't interested as he wanted to continue to build on what he had done at Auburn. Of course that might have been lip service but I think that's why other than early on in the process there never really was any smoke between Butch and our HC job.

Also note, we may have only 5 losses if we played Vandy's season schedule

If it were me I'd probably give him a $100k raise for reaching CWS, $250k raise for getting to the finals, and $500k raise for winning it all. I don't care if it is a veteran team that he took over, the coach that gets State out first natty deserves a $500k raise. I'd probably give the assistants a $25k bonus for CWS and maybe $50-$75k bonus for a title.

But all that will take care of itself.

If that's true, he's overpaid. Maybe they really should fire him and get someone else. Wasn't Cohen around $750K?
