A city council that is PRO MSU

Seems some of them, don't get it.

What Starkville needs in no particular order:
1) Bowling alley
2) Indoor go karts
3) Laser tag

A few tech employers. I'm not talking huge stuff, I'm just talking some entrepreneurs who are willing to stay in the area.

I know I'll also get some damn funny replies ITT, but I've been thinking about it and the laundromat in the district would be a prime destination for a drink/bowl spot. Something similar to this but on an obviously smaller scale:
https://www.brooklynbowl.com/brooklyn/bowling/

Sounds good but I think something like The Woolworth in Bham would be even better. https://woolworthbham.com/

Not limited to just bowling for games. But def with the music aspect of the brooklynbowl added.

I am weird but I am one of the few that think sports success really can spur economic development. I swear Mississippians just need 'something' to feel good about, and good things will begin to happen.

Obviously football is the main one but I bet we'd seen some great things following a baseball championship. MLB might put one of their academies here.

What happened to the old bowling alley? I think it was the Hunt Club. Was that the only ever bowling alley in Starkville?

The bowling alley and Hunt club closed several years ago. Fitness place and some kind of dollar store is there now.

It definitely does and has already done so in both Starkville and Oxford. Also I remember hearing that immediately after our Final Four run back in '96 that we had an increase in student inquiries about attending MSU. Too lazy to look up if our enrollment actually increased though.

I'm hoping that the future Cornerstone Park adds something like go-karts, tennis courts and a water park. There's no need to let something like that sit idle if there isn't a tournament in town and I think locals would keep the other amenities busy enough to keep it afloat in between the tournaments.

A drive down University Drive will confirm your theory

People are investing in high end condos to spend their weekends, enrollment is up so the need for more student housing is up, etc.

A legit bar in or near the Cotton District Or Russell Street that has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating with good food and entertainment. Not some hole in the wall. Maybe Two Brothers will check this box?

A “nice” hotel adjacent to campus. I’m not talking a Ritz or Waldorf, but something like a Indigo, Embassy, etc.

For something to go in the property next to chick fil a and in front of Courtyard. That is prime real estate right at front door of campus and if not going to be developed, needs to look like a park at least.

Like another poster said, more high tech/R&D jobs. Not huge numbers, but high paying. A few of those jobs go a long way.

Continue to develop and clean up Russell Street corridor. Looks so much better than it use to, but still work to be done. Russell and University corridors to downtown should continue to be the focus of the city with local retail, restaurants/bars, etc.

Several different genres of restaurants would do well I think, like a greek (Keifers/Tzikeis types), legit Italian, and higher end/modern Mexican (little donkey/babalu type). I know the restaurant business is hard, but think something like these would do well.

Of course it does, look at what has happened at Alabama. You think all of those kids would be coming from out of state all this time to see 6-6 and the liberty bowl?

Big time agree. No one wants to build something nice next door to a title loan place that used to be a Wendy’s.

The one thing that can be controlled by our leadership in Starkville is the closing time of the bar scene. It is ridiculous that bars close at midnight on Saturday night and 1 am on a Friday night. I would bet that over the course of a year a major bar in Starkville loses thousands of dollars in the couple of extra hours they could be open just on the weekends.

Rich nice homes surrounding downtown instead of the slum looking apartments and government housing that surrounds most of it. There are some nice homes near there but there are plenty of junky shacks as well. Most of the rich alumni moving back seem to want to live in the county or on the south edge of town. I don’t know how you change it, but some developer needs to go door to door cutting checks for property.

From recent history it seems the powers that be think we need 42 more convenience stores and more condos to replace antibellum homes.

An airport that with a runway big enough to handle something larger than a hang glider and flights to civilization. The three shitiest airports in the US are somehow all 2-3 hours away from Starkville and there are no better options.

The excitement that the Eli Manning brought to Ole Miss got Oxford rolling. Same thing happened to Starkville with the Dak/Mullen run.

Current Mayor and Council are pretty dang good. Perfect? No, but far cry from years past.

I agree that Mayor Spruill has done an outstanding job. Obviously no leader is going to make decisions that 100% of their constituents agree with, buy Lynn has a positive forward thinking attitude and is more than willing to listen to both sides of any argument and does a great job at listening to and following up on complaints. Just follow her on Twitter to see where she is constantly addressing city related issues. She was one of the big proponents of getting the restaurant tax passed so the new sports complex could get built.

Agree 100%. Can’t speak about all the board members but Lynn Spruill has been a huge plus for Starkville.

I'm impressed with the Mayor, I don't allways agree with her politics but she is

working her tail off to better Starkville.

What are you talking about? GTR has a very long runway for an airport of its size. Other than wide bodies, that airport can handle just about anything.
