and I think by far the most dominant regional/super-regional performance to get there against a very tough draw. By the last 2 innings last night, everyone knew the game was over, including the announcers and the Stanford players and coaches. It was like one curtain call after another. Pretty surreal and a great way for our seniors to end their Dudy Noble careers.

11th trip under 6 different head coaches, as Robbie Faulk pointed out. First program in history to have that many head coaches take a program to Omaha.

2007 - Regional: FSU Super Regional: Home Coach - Ron Polk
2013 - Regional: Home Super Regional: Virginia Coach - John Cohen
2018 - Regional: FSU Super Regional: Vandy Coach - Gary Henderson
2019 - Regional: Home Super Regional: Home Coach - Chris Lemonis

So this year marks a first for our program and what a way to do it. Even more remarkable that all this happened under 4 different head coaches!! Also, we have had two instances of consecutive appearances but no coach has ever made consecutive trips! Ron Polk 1997, McMahon 1998. Henderson 2018, Lemonis 2019.

We did play both rounds at home in 2016 but of course lost in the supers.

This is a sobering reminder to me that our internal perception of our baseball program's history probably doesn't match up with what the rest of the country thinks. I think we are credited for caring about the sport before anyone else in the SEC, but it sucks that we never won a title....and this is a reminder that we've never even hosted twice in the same postseason.

I think we should expect to host regionals every year and host supers every two/three. We now have the best baseball facility in the country and an athletic director focused on the sport. We have a great shot to get it done this year, but I think we should all expect some sustained excellence going forward as well.

I think it's more a reminder of the enormity of the mistake re-hiring Polk in 2002 was than anything else. We had a lost decade from 2002 - 2012. I do agree that our program prior to 2012 wasn't at the level most of our fans thought it was. But from 2013 forward, I think the program is at a much higher level than it ever was before and is truly an elite baseball program nationally.

I didn't say it wasn't elite. We've made it to 4 straight supers and three CWS in the last six years. But I think most would be surprised by kimmer's metrics. We all just assume we've been elite for a longer period of time.

Yes, Polk II killed us, but that's part of it.

11 trips to Omaha ain't bad. Tied for 13th in total appearances.

The lack of a championship is what hurts. 23 teams have made 7 or more CWS appearances, and only us, FSU, Clemson, UNC, Arkansas, Northern Colorado (last appearance in '74), and Maine (last appearance in '86) have failed to win one. 3 of those teams have already punched tickets this season, and Arkansas can tonight.

Vandy and Michigan are the only teams left alive that has won it all before. The other 8 teams are a combined 0-for-68 (not counting this year).
