I can’t be the only one who saw that pathetic POS yell at Mac while he was celebrating his bomb. He’s a special kind of pos. I hope a ball hits him in the nuts

I saw it. Hopefully someone tells him to eat a dick. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that happen.

They made sure to show that on the end of inning highlights. Hope that ump doesn't show up in Omaha.

I first thought blue got carried away and was congratulating him. Why would he be getting onto him?

Who is in charge of feeding the umps in LFL before the game? Just like the opposing team everybody has a better time if they're fed right.

Yep I noticed too. Total POS move, you can’t hold in that type of emotion. Freaking old pricks like that take all the fun out of college sports that is played by KIDS....not has-been crusty 55 year olds.

I feel the same about celebrations in football.

He said “flagship” when Mac was running by. Just reminded him that he hit that dinger for the flagship university in Mississippi.

Post game presser coach said Mac flipped the bat over the catcher and coach apologized to the home ump after. That may have been what the first base ump saw.

I saw that ump at the Widespread Panic show the night before. He was walking through the lots with a needle popping nitrous balloons.

Hopefully the evildoer is NOT in Omaha. The evildoer May try to take over the game there since he has gotten a lot of flak for his dastardly deed. What is his name Dick Pace?

The Ump got heated no doubt, but Mac flipped his bat pretty hard and then was celebrating loudly and who knows what he was saying as he had to run by the Stanford dug out, so that may have been part of the reason Blue got pissed. Blue probably over reacted, but I don't have a problem with him telling Mac to move it along.

In football Mac would have gotten a personal foul for the bat flip.

What? Watch the replay. The catcher was even with Mac. The bat does not come close to him.

After watching the replay three times, allow me to add a hearty 17 you to that ump as well. He wasn't bitching about the bat flip. He was bitching about his perception that Mac was showboating. 17 that guy. 17 him with a fungo.

Is there a clip of the actual bat flip any where? Can't find it.

The ump had a right to tell Big Mac to move along, but being that red-faced and demonstrative makes him look like a total pr!ck.

So, yeah, I'd say 17 that ump as well.

But if he winds up working in Omaha, I got nothing but love and respect for Big Blue. Hail State!

Unpopular Hot Take Alert: The celebration was excessive and over the top. It wasn't a game-winner or even close. It was a HR in a game we were well in control of. In that scenario, you give a fist pump or two and then get on with rounding the bases. Also, he didn't "flip" the bat. He downright threw it.

If it had been an opposing player, everyone on this board would have been bitching about lack of class and "act like you've been there before."

Also, in case you can't figure out, I'm old and get off my lawn.

If I hit that bomb in that moment... I probably would have moon walked around the bases while playing air guitar with my bat and used it like a shotgun when I crossed home and pretend to shoot down that missile I just launched.

All of us saw what the Ump did. We just don't know why he did it.

He could have believed Mac was taunting the Stanford Dugout with his dance toward first base. I don't believe that, but the ump could have believed it. Mac was as happy as I have ever seen a player during the first 90 feet. If a taunt occurred during the game, the umps would have called Mac on it and then called Coach over to read him the riot act. We have seen umps do just that to opponents, and were happy when they did it. If this is the case, I want to remember that Stanford was one of the more classy teams MSU has played in recent games and they deserved no taunting when such a wonderful thing happened to Mac.

He could have swatted him on the rump as he ran by and said, "Good swing. Or good hit". That would be unusual, but umps do make personal comments in events like last night.

He could have told him to get his butt around the bases. What Mac was doing (the level of celebration he was showing) probably violates one or more rules of the game. If that was the case, I am thankful a swat on the butt was all Mac got.

If the guy was angry and Mac was not in the wrong, then Mac can remember that swat for the rest of his life.

Regardless, what a last hit at the Dude! What a great thing and what a memory for Mac. I doubt the swat affected it any at all.

After watching several times, I have a feeling he just wanted Mac to move on from in front of the Stanford dug out. It could have been seen as taunting, as long as Mac was celebrating down the line. It wasn't tho, he was just celebrating the moment!! And a Moment it was!!!!

The bat never came anywhere near the catcher, he was closer to the bat during the pitch than he was during the flip.

As someone that hasn't missed a home game Mac has played in the last 3 years and watched most road games on tv and talked to him multiple times Mac is excitable. He feeds off the energy and gets hyped by it and it works for him. Watch his post game interview that's posted in another thread on this board, he was riding the adrenaline high and it showed, but I can assure anybody he wasn't doing anything to put Stanford down.

As an ump that doesn't know Mac from anybody else I can see where he would think he was showboating, I get it, so I'm not going to be hard on the ump. Ump probably doesn't know he's a Sr, doesn't know its his last AB at The Dude, doesn't know he's been hurt and slow coming back, etc. It looked to me like he told him to move on and that's probably the right call not knowing the background. I haven't seen anything posted from Stanford anywhere saying they felt like he was showboating either but could have missed it if there was.

He wasn't taunting Stanford, he never looked their way, and I doubt he was even thinking about them. He was just ecstatic. Overwhelmed.

When you hit a homerun, get around the bases. Don't unduly delay the thing.
What Mac did was FINE, however had he not started trotting when he did, it would have been too much. He started trotting when the ump first yelled at him to move it along. The ump was telling him to move along.
Also, remember that it was approximately as loud as standing directly beside a F-22 at full throttle, so of course he was screaming.
I had no problem with it.

I don't have a problem with either. Mac was pumped and caught up in the moment as he shouldve been. Ump trying to make sure a brawl doesn't break out. Probably could have went about it a little better.

Home plate ump escorted the catcher to the mound when Mac was coming home.

It was a senior hitting a 3-run HR that essentially clinched an Omaha trip in his final collegiate AB in his home stadium. It was also his first HR in quite some time. The ump apparently didn’t recognize the totality of the situation, and had no business jawing at our guy even if none of the above were true. They enforce the rules of the game and have no place policing any emotion that isn’t directed at them specifically. It was totally bush league by any standard, even if you don’t agree with the celebration.

I don't have a problem with Mac flipping the bat considering the moment.

I have a problem with the Umpire over reacting, but I don't have the problem with the Ump saying Mac should move along.

Both were excessive but explainable. Bat flips are always considered a taunting gesture. Mac's bat flip was a straight throw of the bat.

Lemonis even personally apologized right after it happened.

There's nothing wrong with criticizing both the ump and Mac in this situation. Mac got very emotional and it's okay to say he didn't handle it perfectly, but that's what happens in big moments like that. It happens. It's part of the game.
