I don't know why this matters to some people.

We had lower attendance on Friday because we played in the middle of the day. We also had a bunch of people in the lofts and on the roof that don't count in attendance.

I suspect we will outdraw them comfortably this weekend, but if we don't, who cares?

I guess we will have to wait for "revised" attendance figures.

It matters because we outdrew everyone for a long time and it got us a ton of cws appearances and national titles

seriously though i dont know why anyone cares

if we need to focus on something its not letting the place go silent when the other team has a rally

The difference in crowd size between The Dude and Oxford-University Stadium this weekend will be incalculable.

Imaginary Number

"An
imaginary number is a complex number that can be written as a real number multiplied by the imaginary unit i,[SUP][note 1][/SUP] which is defined by its property i[SUP]2[/SUP] = −1.[SUP][1][/SUP] The square of an imaginary number bi is −b[SUP]2[/SUP]. For example, 5i is an imaginary number, and its square is −25. Zero is considered to be both real and imaginary.[SUP][2]"[/SUP]

Rooftop numbers do count because you have to have a ticket. I've never been to the lofts so I can't confidently say if they require a game ticket. (Never been to the rooftop either, but they published ticket packages for the regional and said they required GA tickets).

The Lofts do not require a ticket. However, many of those in the lofts may have tickets and walked over to them during the game.

"Swayze Field sets the In-State Standard For Game Attendance"
--This past weekend in Oxford, MS, the Ole Miss Rebels hosted a Regional Baseball Tournament in the first round of NCAA Div-I play in their bid to get to Omaha. In addition to sweeping their tourney, the Rebel faithful also set the gold standard for the state as the most supportive fan base, out-matching the MS State Bulldogs by having higher overall attendance throughout the tournament. We asked Ole Miss Head Coach Mike Bianco what his thoughts were on the record-setting attendance numbers. "Coach, what do you have to say in not only sweeping your tournament, but also having such high attendance numbers?" Bianco: "Well, I've been here for 20 plus years and a lot of people are griping about my performance...I suppose they wanted to come see for themselves if I was worthy of still retaining this position, as you can see with the Football HC position...the university will hire anybody, I suppose the surge in numbers is due in part to potential candidates who say they can do a better job than me."

The obsession with attendance numbers is too much. I'm glad we have a lot of fans that come to games, but it's gotten weirdly obsessive.

We didn't built it big enough. Argue with me if you want, but it's the truth.

I'm not purposely trying to find a negative, just stating the truth as it pertains to the subject of this thread. It was an incredible weekend and we have an incredible stadium that tops any other school in the nation, but we didn't build it quite big enough.

We could have hosted 14-15k on the Saturday game if there were more places for people to sit. That's just the honest truth.

Anyone who believes those numbers really have their head in the sand. You could look at a picture from each game and tell we had many more than them. Not to mention they don’t count the hundreds of people in our bad *** lofts. Ole miss fans can’t stand that we have the premier college baseball stadium in the country so here lately they’ve been hyping up their atmosphere and saying things like “best atmosphere in college baseball” just to get under our skin. They know it’s not true but they will never admit it.

The only reason OM fans care about attendance and atmosphere is because State has been recognized so much nationally, and as a result OM fans are DESPERATE to prove they are "better" at it.

The lack of GA seats are keeping people from coming out and is keeping attendance down. It just is. Anyone that says it's isn't is wrong and just has their head burried in the sand. It's like people are scared to dare say anything negative about the stadium.

BUT...the more I think about it, the more I think it was built too small on purpose. I think the university decided to sacrifice capacity and fan comfort so we could have a tougher environment for opposing teams.

The stadium is kinda forcing people in tight together and close to the field. Maybe less people, but more effective in generating excitement and noise than it would be with bigger grandstands and fans more spread out.

i wanted to go several times this year but lack of GA and a toddler definitely kept me away.

I'm going Saturday with my oldest son....but not taking the wife and two smaller kids because of it.

It is was it is. I rather have this than be UGA or UT and have 200 people at a game. Life is about compromise. If we sacrificed capacity for atmosphere, I can understand that decision

It’s definitely odd. It’s like some of ours fans’ self worth is tied to our baseball attendance.

I wish we could get over all this attendance/atmosphere talk

Lets just 17ing win a bunch of ball games and not give a **** about "atmosphere" or flexing our attendance numbers. It makes us seem desperate and needy for attention, IMO. We know we have a great ball park and a **** load of people pile into it.

There is more chatter on social media about atmosphere this weekend than us actually winning our regional. We have the most bait-able fanbase on twitter.

You don't see this with the big boys in football. You don't see these pissing matches between UGA and Bama and LSU in football about who had the better atmosphere. All they care about is winning.

I don't think it's that odd. College baseball is still kinda a niche sport, but it is growing in popularity. MSU and our fans played a big role in that growth.

I think we feel like "we cared about this before anyone else" and now other schools are starting to compete with us in "caring".

I think as a fan base we feel like we are the best. We care the most. And part of that is attendance numbers. It's not all of what makes us the best, but it's part of it. And I think you had a lot of people suprised this year that the new stadium might not be as big as we were thinking beforehand.

In time it won't be a big deal anymore. It's just part of the conversation with the new stadium

It's not LIKE that. It IS that. And other things.......recruiting rankings, preseason polls, clarion ledger headlines, where our baseball coach came from, how many local high school athletes want to go to college somewhere else.....ad infinitum.

Y'all are aware that Saturday night was the biggest single game regional crowd we had ever had aren't you? The new stadium has already broken one attendance record. Let's see if we break the Super record this weekend. I suspect we don't, but it's going to have more to do with the weather than the stadium. That's why SBW wasn't that great this year. Y'all also need to stop expecting to see the all time record broken in the post season. It likely won't ever happen for two reasons: 1) the way the NCAA counts crowds. 2) people can't plan as far ahead to be there.

I think it's overcompensating for not having a natty. We want to be #1 at something. When you have multiple threads about attendance across all message boards, it's time to stop.

Have to have a rooftop pass to get up there, but that doesn't give you access to the stadium. You have to buy a separate ticket for that. No idea if announced attendance includes the rooftop passes or not. If not, you're missing some fans in your attendance. But if so, you're double counting some.

I agree but that wasn't my point. I think we have the baseball fan base to have much bigger crowds than you saw this past weekend, but the issue with finding a place to see the game is keeping us from hosting larger crowds. I'm not really worried about those ego-driven douche-bags trying to throw shade on some superficial attendance numbers. Everybody knows who has the best stadium and crowds in the country.

Their associate AD, Cross, Yancy or whoever the **** is running that dumpster fire can't change anybody's mind.
