Down by 2 in the top of the 9th, Oklahoma State batter sitting first pitch fastball, literally yelled, "BOOM!" as he swung and immediately flipped his bat. 3-run homer gave them 1-run lead going into bottom of the 9th.

Completely missed the opportunity to title that tweet THREE RUN BOOM.

Pitchers these days are just as animated after a big strikeout so I think the bat flips are fine. It adds excitement to a game that can get a little boring at times.

Bat flips are cool. If I ever hit a home run, I would launch mine into the outfield, hammer-throw style.

If pitchers don't like bat flips, they should pitch better.

I don’t know why but the visual of that made me literally laugh out loud.

Don't try that in the MLB, dude would get a fastball to the side next at bat and possibly a fight before he made it home...

That's another thing I actually love about MLB baseball over NFL and NBA. Manners.

Score a touchdown, make a sack, windmill dunk, block a shot==dance and gesticuate like a tribal aborigine who just cured cancer

Disrespect your opponent with bat flip in baseball==98 mph repercussions

Big difference between celebration and disrespect.

That's true. I just feel most traditions in MLB are sticking around longer than in other sports.

Wait. The batter said his own name? This went from bad to worse. The bat flip wasn't actually that bad. It was more celebratory than disrespectful. Yelling his own name is just lame.

There’s a time and a place for bat flips. Solo homer in the fourth? Bat flip is lame. Three run bomb to give your team the lead in the ninth? Flip it as far as you want. Guy was fired up, let him celebrate.

What’s weird to me is you can do a little dance or flex on second base if you hit a double in the top of the 2nd. But try doing that same little dance while running the bases after a solo shot, and you’re gonna have some bruised ribs.

No. I thought the same, but his name is Boone, not boom.
Also, was he in the DH position? I can’t find last nights lineup.

There’s a great book called the Baseball Codes that talks about all of the unwritten rules of the game.

My personal feeling is you can bat flip and celebrate all day long... but you also have to step back into the box and there may be repercussions. Do as you please.

It's college baseball

These situations are high emotion high stress. And they are playing college baseball. It's fun to see that side of the game and it's happening more often in MLB as well.

Hot take but intentionally hitting a player is no different than a sucker punch. I don't care how long these unwritten rules have been around its horse **** especially if someone is just celebrating.

I’ve always wanted a batter to let go of the bat on the next pitch right at the mound and then say “I was just moving him off the left side of the rubber”.
