What was the announced attendance tonight?

It was stacked. GA seats were better off trying to watch the game on the ESPN app on your phone.

My thought is that we should have added more seats down the lines instead of the stupid berms. OR, if you really want the berms, extend the seats down the line up as in more rows.
I think we way under built seats by at least 2K.
I like the drink rails viewing option but not to the point of not having a GA SEAT!

Not a joke. I've been telling you guys since they built this stadium, they cut capacity significantly. 11,500 in this stadium is pretty close to the max.

Ha...11.5K. A joke.

Why would it be a joke?

Grandstand + Skyboxes = 5,000 seats.
Each berm holds maybe 500 folks, thats another 1,000 at best.
If you had 20 people in every LFL spot, that’s another 1,600.
Maybe a couple hundred on the party deck?

That only adds up to 7,800 folks. 11,500 attendance would mean 3,700 people with absolutely nowhere other than a rail to stand against or looking over somebody’s shoulder, and that is an absolute **** ton. Newsflash, the new park doesn’t hold as many people, and that has been known from the beginning. We took out 3,000 seats down the lines when the bleachers came out, and didn’t come close to replacing that capacity with the berms and additional grandstand seats. We won’t break any more records until we replace the berms with chairbacks or some form of actual seating.

You may right

But the Miami - Central Michigan game from last night had a reported 7300 in attendance.

I'm not saying I disagree with the attendance numbers from our game tonight but I am saying there is no consistency in the reporting.

That was by far the biggest crowd of the year. If it was 11,500 then so be it. It was a very electric atmosphere. DNF is one fun place to see a baseball game.

When it gets to the point where GA is a mass of humanity and makes it unenjoyable, it reaches a breaking point and it becomes clear, your brand new 65million stadium is too small. These conditions will keep crowds muted and it’s a damn shame.

I went back and looked at box scores...from what I could find, the Saturday Auburn game was 12,343. That's our largest of the year, officially.

Im no expert, but I don’t think you build a stadium to your max capacity. Again, no expert, but I don’t think you build to your possible maximum crowd. You’ll end up with too many empty seats 99% of the time.
You need scarcity of available seats at times.

im sure they could build a yankee stadium that sat 300,000, and they would fill that ****** up for playoff games and maybe against the socks a few times a year, but that’s not how it works.

The berms were built in a way to allow for them to be made into regular seats in the future.

We somehow built a brand new 65million dollar stadium and under built.
How the 17 do you do that ?!?
Should have been at least 13,000 SEATS with another 2-3K standing room only.

Somewhere around 12K was really the limit for the old stadium as well. Anything over that and those extra 2000 to 3000 people had no hope of seeing the game. They use to put up a project behind the 3rd base bleachers and there would easy be 500 to 1000 people watching back there for the big games.

If we had to pack another 3,000 in, we could. They wouldn’t have a great view of the field, but it would be better than watching the projector or standing behind the LFL like it was in the old stadium.

With the new lofts going in, maybe they can arrange something for more seating kinda like Busch stadium with those chair backs across the street. Honestly, they need to axe the berms and extend the grandstands. Bite the bullet or be content with shorting the greatest fans in the nation and watch the other sec teams attendance pass us by even more. It’s not for lack of interest, it’s lack of viable seating and that is not acceptable and a middle finger to our fans

I will say this. The 11,500 tonight looked way more badass on TV than 15,000+ ever did in the old stadium. I personally think it should be less about breaking records and more about utilizing the space we have to comfortably seat as many people as we can (which we are not currently doing). Unless some other team builds a new on-campus stadium that they plan on sharing with a minor league team, the records we have already set are never going to get close to being touched anyways. So, there really shouldn’t be any more focus on cramming more and more people in there to try and hit 16,000+.

Just make the sensible upgrades of replacing one or both berms with seats, and it will be fine. That will, at a minimum, restore the actual seating capacity of the old stadium. And it will happen sooner rather than later, especially if we snag a natty or put together a string of 3 or 4 straight Omaha trips. And thanks to the existing infrastructure, it won’t be that expensive to do either.

Because as is the case with most - actually all - capital projects, there is a budget that needs to be adhered to.

IIRC, since Regionals/Supers are NCAA events, they get a cut of the gate revenue (or maybe all of it). It’s shady, but could MSU be underreporting attendance to pocket some of that gate money?

No, it’s accurate. We over report, just like everyone else, during the season.

Looks like everyone claiming huge numbers got a real number
It’s always been like that. It was the largest regional attendance at Dudy Noble. Win tomorrow and you’ll see crazy numbers next week. That’s when we can truly judge the crowds vs the old dude.

Tonight attendance was accurate. There were more people at the Saturday Auburn game...truly 3 and in a few areas, 4 deep in the standing room only areas. Tonight it was 2 deep all the way around.

This is ridiculous on so many different levels.

This place gets a little dumber every day.

We got too cute with the berms.

More actual seating makes actual sense. Berms look neat on TV.

Largest crowd we’ve ever had for a Regional game yesterday per Robbie Faulk (just Regionals, not Supers). That fact alone doesn’t tell me that we built the stadium too small.

Exactly, nothing looks worse than 5000 empty seats. You hafta create demand by making it where all fans that want to come can't. It's like Wrigley used to be before the upgrades, in a city with a metro of about 8-9 million yet Wrigley held like 37,000.

Yes game 2 vs Clemson in the 07 Super was the largest postseason crowd. That was the hottest baseball I ever attended. Seems like they had to carry 6-7 folks off due to possible heatstroke. And there were another 1500-2000 ppl that the fire marshal turned away. It was well worth it though. I had a second ticket and had trouble finding someone to go at the last minute, so I asked an ole miss homer friend of mine if he wanted to go, surprisingly he said "sure I'll go, may be the only team team I ever see in person punch a ticket to Omaha." Told him that's what I was thinking but wasn't gonna say it.
