Southern NOT throwing their ace against us

We will instead see a lefty with an ERA of 6.63. I can only assume he tops out at about 80 MPH.

Interesting. Do you still throw Ginn? I lean toward yes but now it feels a little tempting to go with Smith or somebody like that.

He's prepping today for a start tomorrow, not sure Lemonis will mess with his rotation at this point. Baseball players are superstitious.

Ginn it is, and in Lemonis I trust, so let's roll.

This is a big reason why I wanted to go another direction though....it's been speculated for a couple of days that Southern was saving their ace for game two.

It should not really matter who Southern throws. Starting Ginn is not about that.

Yes you still throw Ginn. I'm pretty sure Ginn starting this game has nothing to do with who Southern is starting. Actually, SU not throwing their ace is a good thing because we should be able to give Ginn enough run support to allow him to work through a rough patch which is what he needs.

Who they throw has nothing to do with who Lemonis pitches. He's going with JT for obvious reasons.

Yeah, I think throwing anyone other than Ginn at this point is Bush league. We were expecting to throttle them no matter who they threw.

There isn't a big gap between Ginn and Plumlee statistically. In fact, it's

easier to get a hit against Ginn than Plumlee. .221 BA v. .209.

Big difference is that Ginn struggles a little against lefties. Plumlee is quite effective against them. Miami=lefty hitting team. Plumlee will start our game 3 against Miami to win it. At least, I'm sure that's the thought process.

So apparently this guy throws curve balls. What if he is like that junk ball pitcher that shut us out in a midweek game for 7 innings?

The question isn't if Plumlee should throw against Southern, it's if Brandon Smith should throw against Southern

Throwing Smith actually gives us the best chance of winning the regional IMO, BUT you also run the risk of Ginn or Plumlee not throwing in the regional & then being expected to pitch in the Super next week after not pitching for two weeks. That would give us less of a chance to win the Super.

That is called pitcher hoarding.

I am good with starting Ginn. Swac or not, Southern can freaking hit. They breezed through their conference tourney, and beat LSU at LSU. We can't take them lightly.

Stick with the plan

Id start with JT tomorrow and trust Lemonis/Foxhall to manage our staff this weekend.

I personally would have started Plum or Smith. That said, I understand Ginn getting the ball tomorrow too. I think it is a testament to how much Lemonis trusts Plumlee.

Think Eli Finney pitched that LSU game.

He is their #1, that is not pitching against us.

Think their coach, noted matchups and all.

I think they are holding Finney for game two, to make it to a game three.

You have to throw your best pitchers. If it only takes 3 games, I want Ginn, Small and Plumlee throwing those 3 games. If we lose Sunday and have to play Monday, we are still in better shape with Smith than the others will be.

Yeah. I'll take my chances with Smith on Monday against another team's #5 starter or on Sunday afternoon against Southern's #4 starter if I have to. The other thing that starting him in game 1 potentially sets up is Plumlee starting game 3 of a super regional with only 1 inning pitched in a month. It's got to be Plumlee or Ginn in game 1, and I'm OK with Ginn there.

If they are not throwing their ace, hopefully this is a chance for our bats to get some needed momentum. Get Mangum and Westy out of their funk

Perhaps he will let this guy go through the lineup once if he has a pitch that can get people out, then bring out the ace.

Or hes playing to get to the third game.

At this point of the year, any team still playing baseball can hit it and pitch it, at least to some degree.

Even these SWAC and G5 teams have an ace and a couple of guys who can put one over the wall.

Just ask NC State, who lost to their 4 seed Army last year 5-1.

Florida State also lost their opener last year to the 4 seed, Samford 7-6, then Macnamee eliminated them 24 hours later. 2-and-Q in their own regional, yikes.

Clemson and Stanford both needed extra innings to beat their 4 seeds as well. It’s the postseason...everybody can play.
