All four teams have their pre-tournament press conferences tomorrow so we might find out then. May also get some indication on what Miami and CMU’s plans are.

I thought I heard on the Baton Rouge news tonight that Southern is throwing their ace in game two. But I could have heard it wrong.

TBH.... I would throw Ginn....win or lose game 1, you need your best pitchers for games 2 and 3.

I don't understand this post. Ginn is our 2nd best pitcher. And games 1 and 2 are both very important. Forces someone to beat you twice. Having said that, Plumlee is the obvious choice for game 1. At least to me, he is.

The only real way we can screw it up is throwing Small in Game 1, which we won’t do. Plum or Ginn should both be acceptable, and I’d support Lemonis going with either one. Its also important to remember that this Southern team already beat LSU’s midweek pitching, so it’s important not to underestimate them too much. Starting Brandon Smith would be playing with fire a lot more, but would still not be a totally uncalculated risk. Just don’t F it up like Polk did in 2003 with Maholm against MTSU.

Just don't start Small/Ginn

You have to save both Small and Ginn for games 2 and 3. Starting Plumlee is what I think Lemonis will do.

I'd personally be very tempted to start Brandon Smith. But I also understand letting Plumlee take the mound.

I believe I would start Brandon Smith in Game 1. 3-0 with a 3.25 ERA and started the last two mid-week games against La Tech and LSU.

30 strikeouts vs. 5 walks in 36 innings of work. In a game like this you just need someone who throws strikes and lets his defense play behind him.

This is what I've been thinking as well. And give him a short leash unless or until we build a big lead.

I start Smith. He’s been great recently and we should be able to win with him and our offense. Go Small and Ginn after that. I would rather have plumlee starting a game in the championship than smith if it comes to that if we lose the championship opener.

Everytime I almost have that regional blocked out of memory someone brings it up and I get pissed all over again. USCe beat Georgia Tech so we would've hosted a super that year as well. Still can't believe Papelbon blew that save.

I understand it. Ginn has better stuff than plumb but he's a true freshman playing in his first NCAA tournament. His first foray into a post season tournament started well but turned on a dime into an unmitigated disaster after a couple of balls were booted behind him which tells me he needs to build a little more resilience. I would favor easing him into the post season. Southern on Friday is a good opponent to do this. Miami in a championship game on Sunday is not.

Paps blew it, but he was never the pitcher in college that he was in the pros. Totally retooled his delivery to add 5 mph to his fastball, and developed a cutter in the minors that became his ticket to the show. And regardless, we also would have had to beat UNC again with a skeleton crew of pitchers, so it wasn’t looking good either way.

Overall, the Maholm decision was just laughable, and set the tone for the whole rest of the weekend. We burned a 1st round MLB draft pick against a team that had a losing conference record in the damn Sun Belt. And we had Jeff Lacher available who had a better ERA than Plumlee has this year in about the same number of innings, plus Alan Johnson who was more hot / cold but was more than capable of going deep into the ballgame against MTSU. Not to mention that their pitching staff was terrible, and we could have thrown basically anyone and still won (scored 10 runs that day).

No need to show our cards this early. I’d wait until 11:30 tomorrow to announce. After thinking about it I’d start Ginn Friday to get him some confidence back. Plus, that gives him 8 days of rest for the super regionals. He’s still an 18 year old kid and it’s obvious the season has taken some juice out of him. He needs the extra rest imho. Whatever Lemonis decides I’ll be on board with. He knows his guys and team better than anyone. Let’s ride!

have to win to make it to a super! I’d Ben okay with smith or Plumlee. If smith was throwing good in practice I’d go there
