Some friends of mine have a son who is a LHP for a community college in Colorado. He has 2 years of eligibility left, and will be making the jump to Division 1. He currently has scholarship offers from Arizona State, San Diego State, Tulane, Utah, and Florida Atlantic. If you had a kid with those options, where would you encourage him to go?

Definitely Arizona State. Best conference. Good program. And see Missouridawg's post.

i would encourage my child to visit them, and make the best decision for how he likes the coaches, city, and school. and in that order.

For baseball: Arizona State
For school: Tulane
For weather: San Diego State

Yep, my thoughts exactly.

The weather's not terrible at Arizona State, albeit a bit warm (but it's a dry heat). New Orleans summer heat is awful. San Diego is about as near ideal as you can get.

^^This. Only 2 other schools out west can even be mentioned with that kind of talent. UCLA and Oregon.

Daddy's money is EXTREMELY prevalent at both Arizona State and University of Arizona...and as a single guy that spent about 6 months between both campuses....I had NOTHING to complain about. I went to more college sorority parties as a college grad then I did when I went to MSU (which wasn't hard, I didn't go to any at State). I'll just say I'm super glad I went out there single and left there single, best "there I was" stories of my life came from that 6 months in AZ

Tempe is cool and ASU definitely had some serious talent when I made a trip there a few years ago.

of course, the southern drawl I seem to have was an instant hook. University and 6th (?) avenue in Tucson was always hopping. Tempe/Scottsdale was by far my favorite though. More than anything, the money out there was mind-boggling. Both schools in Arizona also attract kids from S. Cali (Hollywood, bev hills, LA, etc...) so it was nothing to see Ms. Friday night pull up in a maserati

Arizona State is definitely the leader for him, but he really liked SDSU and FAU a lot too. Utah was the first major program to offer him, but they’re probably in last place. His parents, while nice people, are clueless about the process and think that all his problems will be solved in a few days when he’s taken in the draft. Luckily, the kid is under no such delusion, and he wants to play D1 ball anyway. Like I told him, life could be worse than spending 2 years in Tempe, San Diego, New Orleans, or Boca Raton.

In order

1. Arizona State (Great school, Good baseball conference, great location, lots of good looking coeds).
2. San Diego State (great weather, good school, good location).
3. Tulane (New Orleans is fun, good baseball teams)
4. FAU. The beach and lots of good ladies. don't know much about their baseball program.
5. Utah, this really shouldn't even be on the list. Mountains and skiing are nice, but baseball is really not a thing up there.

Sound advise ^^^^^ and how I’d want my son to approach his recruitment.

Now, if it was me....I’d probably go SDSU ( for the weather, city, and activities off the field and away from sorority row). There’s a ton to do in SD (not that there isn’t a lot to do in Phoenix but you got the beach, fishing and a TON of great breweries in SD.

As far as cleat chasers go - ASU will have more but I’m sure SDSU has more than enough to keep a ball player busy.

SDSU plays in the Mountain West so it’s not going to be as glamorous as the Pac12 but you can’t have it all.

You guys are getting me excited for the road trips football has for Arizona in the next five years.
