I know how to spell tennis that’s about all I can contribute. But MSU’s Borge is playing in the Men’s finals this afternoon.

How do national championships work in tennis? We have a team, is it a team championship? Is this a first for us? If he wins, would we be able to claim our first national title? How does this work?

I don't watch a ton of tennis, mainly the major finals and I only catch half of them and never played any formal tennis, but I've never seen a player hit the net so many times in a match, much less a set and a half.

Borges is about to the point where he can afford no more unforced errors.

That's the first time I've ever peeked in on college tennis. I guess they modified the rules fer the tournament? They didn't do deuce/ad. You could win a game by 1 point. Is that just a tourney rule or is that across all college tennis?

The moment got to Nuno. He was tight as a drum the whole match. Lot of misses in the net and short balls with little velocity. That's not swinging free and not following through. Hate it for him. He had a great career though.

Any chance our mens tennis coach stays and the program won't fall back into obscurity now that Borges is done?

They made the final 8 this year, so I assume there is more to the team than just Borges. Not discounting how good he is, but other guys def have to win points to make it that far

We lose 4 seniors. Our #1, #3, #4, #5 players. All 4 played doubles. Coach Roberts has done a fantastic job and says we have 4 coming in Fall and another hopefully coming in January. The deal with college tennis is really can you win the doubles point and can you win at the bottom. Gio, our #2, lost to the Juub in quarters. Everybody has a great #1. Depth in your line up is important. It's great to have a 1 as dominant as Nuno but if your 4, 5 ,6 can't win your in trouble.
That said I expect us to drop a little near due to losing 4 major contributors but we have 3 solid pieces. Just need to fill in.

To answer the original question, MSU athletes have won a number of individual and relay national titles in Track & Field, as well as a doubles tennis title a while back.

We've just never won a team championship in any sport.

We need to upgrade facilities. Most others are ahead of us in SEC. Hopefully we can get a 6 court indoor facility (currently have 2 in old tin gym). During the super regional match, it rained. Was told if they had a second delay match would have to be finished in Tuscaloosa. That would have been terribly embarrassing.
