As much as this week sucked for baseball

Remember, in 2010-2011 when South Carolina won 2 straight national championships, they went a combined 1-4 in the SEC tournament. Just need to bounce back strong and this team can still go deep in the real tournament. Go to get the bats going though.

SEC tourney performance seems to be inversely proportional to NCAA tournament performance. SEC teams that made the supers last year went a combined 6-9 last year in the SEC tournament.

But still, this week did not inspire confidence.

Because the SECT Tourney is a meat grinder. Some might say it's even tougher than the CWS.

They really do need to adjust the format. Going from single elimination to double, and then back to single doesn't really make a lot of good sense.

I think they should just make it single elimination. It would make it better for the players too I think.

Good point about Florida. Even more encouraging

They actually did lose again. They lost a game to Bethune Cookman in the regional, and then lost a game to Wake Forest in the supers.

I agree, change the format. The ACC tournament is a more leisurely pace. 4 groups of 3 teams each. Tue-Fri is 3 games per day of group play, everyone gets 2 games in 4 days, no 10AM starts and no 9PM starts). The 4 group winners advance to the semi-finals on Sat (if everyone in a group finishes 1-1, the highest seed advances), then the winners play for the title Sun. Everyone gets 2-4 games vs the SEC's 1-6 games.

I don't think it's so much there's an inverse relationship between SECT performance & NCAA performance as it is there's just no relationship at all. Last 10 years, 11 of the 20 finalists advanced to the CWS, while 8 of them lost in the regionals.

Agree this week did not inspire confidence. However, it could be that Lemonis set the tone for the whole team's approach to this weekend when he pitched his #4 starter in the 1st game.

This was the only game we won, so not sure your point. We wasted Small’s gym and Ginn got roughed up. Not sure how the results would have been any different if we pitched Small and Ginn in the first two games. We still would have won the first LSU game (although probably in only 9 innings), and then Ginn get shelled against Vandy and we are pitching Plumlee against LSU in the third game.

Not starting your ace, or even a weekend pitcher sets the mindset that we’re not in this tournament to win it. It’s just a meaningless exhibition. Which isn’t necessarily a wrong approach when you’ve already wrapped up a National seed.
