There is a lot of talk going around that, unless Bianco at least makes a SR, he very well could be gone. It’ll be interesting to watch that situation unfold.

Did we think the same thing about Andy Kennedy or no? As far as assuming they’ll hire a bum and set the program back to how it was with the previous coach.

Unless they have someone already linedup

fall forward is best they will likely do.

They already have a solid coach, in a sport that is difficult at best to recruit, and keep players.

Aside from the obvious reasons why they would be ill advised to fire him, why would they hinge this decision on the outcome of 1 or 2 games that will be played on someone else’s home field in the postseason? Dude has been there 2 decades and is what he is at this point. Them winning or losing their regional doesn’t change anything. They should just go ahead and make the decision now either way.

@kendallrogers do you think Ole Miss should look towards moving on from Mike Bianco if things don’t go well the rest of the season?

Wouldn’t OM likely triple Godwin’s current salary?

Mississippi State was going to triple Godwin’s salary, too.

As usual, Rogers is right and right. They're not going to fire him. But if they did, they'd find out real quick how hard it is to get a proven coach to just leave and take a job in the most insanely competitive division in college baseball. Cohen did an outstanding job of finding a great coach after his first 3 choices either turned the job down or lost his chance at it. It's a huge gamble to think that Bjork could make such a good hire, or any hire that would be an upgrade over what they already have.

Why do they think if they fire Bianco, they can just go get Godwin or McDonnell? Both those coaches are are Bianco guys. They aren't going to fill that spot like that. I actually do think they'll do it. I don't think Kendall understands how dump their athletic administration is. And I think Bjork will do it knowing this will be a good chance for him to earn some trust from their fans

I don't know about Godwin, but they can forget about any chance with McDonnell if they fire Bianco. Now, if they fire Bjork and move him up to AD, I think both of those guys could be in play.

Absolutely. Kennedy went to two NCAA tourneys in 12 years, Bianco has been to the NCAA tourney in 16 of 19 years.

The only similarity that Kennedy and Bianco have is that they both were/are in Oxford for over a decade. Bianco is a far superior coach as far as what his program has accomplished.

Wait. Back up. Where is the proof that Cohen offered Godwin triple his currently salary and he turned it down?

I have two problems with that.

1) if true, who the hell does Cliff Godwin think he is, Bobby Cox?

2) is Cohen slow stupid or both? You don’t offer to triple someone’s salary unless you are damn sure they are going to take the job.

Soooo.... I don’t believe either occurred.

They are DES-PER-ATE to steal our thunder. Bianco gave them hope that they could be bigger than State in baseball, and that's the only reason they give baseball any attention at all. Things are going back to the way they once were and it's driving UM fans bat$#!t crazy. Basically you can say that State built UM baseball. That's why I think it's hilarious every time one of their fans say something about how "Rebsessed" we are.

I don’t think Kendall understands the level of angst in Oxford over their baseball program right now. People are not happy that they weren’t able to take the next step after 2014, fans thought last year and this year were “their years,” and now that it’s obvious expectations aren’t going to be met, people want blood. Us having success this year brings that much more pressure and has pushed their fans over the edge, as it does in every sport when we start to do well.

Ole Miss fans have an overinflated view of their baseball program. They think Ole Miss should be an elite, top 5 program making trips to Omaha every 2-3 years. What they don’t understand is that their best years in program history are the mid 2000s, when we had our program running at less than optimum efficiency under Polk II. LSU had taken a step back then too, before hiring Maniari. Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, and Vandy were not what they are today. A&M hadn’t joined the league. Hell, even Auburn is competitive now with Butch. I don’t think it’s any coincidence that Ole Miss has been to one super regional since 2009 (ie, the year we hired Cohen). Ole Miss fans think they are still that same program from 10-15 years ago, when in reality, the playing field in the SEC is radically different now. It is much harder for them now than it was then. And despite all of that Bianco has managed to never win less than 13 SEC games in any of his 19 years, which is remarkable.

I do think Kendall’s comment reflects what the national perception would be if Ole Miss did make a move...

Rogers is such a little man. He’s nothing but a mouthpiece for the coaches who show him a little respect. The MSU/Godwin **** all came from him.

When was the last time a two seed fired their coach in baseball for something that wasn't Cann-esque? Or even a three seed?

He is a mouthpiece for sure. However, I suspect that Godwin was the one that told him that he had a MSU offer and I also suspect that he used Rogers to get himself a nice raise.

As I said in my other comment, Ole Miss baseball exists only because of where State has been in the past. Bianco gave them hope that they could steal our thunder. All this hot air they flap their gums about over "attendance" and "atmosphere" is fueled only by State getting recognized so much on the national stage.

It's going to be interesting, UM baseball fans are going nuts. (But let's be honest, there aren't really that many of them.)

We've had a coaching carousel for four years and still owned them at 14-2.....Okay, we've also had Jake. Being 2-14 against your in-state rival that you hate admitting is a rival has got to eat at 'em. Add to that how bad they've performed when it counts in the post season and you can get the frustration.

But Bianco's teams pretty much owned us prior to these last 4 years - 37-29.

He has also taken them to 15 regionals in the past 18 years and 1 CWS.

It'll be 16 regionals after this year. And if the team could get their **** together, they've got all the pieces and the talent to get to a CWS this year.

In the last 18 years, we've been in 13 regionals with 3 CWS appearances.

The top teams in the SEC over the same period:
Ark: 17 regionals - 5 CWS (no titles)
UF: 16 - 8 (one title)
LSU: 14 - 7 (one title)
Van: 14 - 3 (one title)
USC: 12 - 6 (two titles)
UGA: 7 - 4
Aub: 8 - 0

The failure to get to the CWS is crushing, but it's hard to argue against Bianco's consistent success. He's obviously a good coach.

That said, I bet they let him go if he doesn't win at least two games in a regional this year.

Us catching fire and going to omaha in a yr where it looked like we might not even make our conference tournament...then coupling that with what looks like a great chance at going back this year, a sweep in oxford, and our recent success over them....and well they pissed.

I believe he is basically saying that Godwin declined to interview for our job knowing that we could triple his salary. Rogers also stated that we were really close to signing Schloss and there was an interesting story there.

Baseball coaches also get into a program and don't jump programs like football and basketball. If it happens then it is usually a reason like Cohen coming back to MSU. I think UM has an inflated image of their program and somehow think they are on par with someone like LSU or UF. Honestly, I think Lane Boroughs would be a great hire if they are going to replace Bianco. He has done a good job at La Tech and he has SEC experience under Cohen.

I think they see former assistants doing better than Bianco and think they can just get those results by hiring one of those guys. The problem is McDonnell isn't leaving Louisville. That is his program and Godwin is actually at his alma mater. I imagine that means something to him which is why he declined to interview for our job.

I don't see how in the hell they think they'll get McDonnell or Godwin. They were both Bianco assistants and if they fire him there's absolutely no way that those two come back to take over for him. As stated above, the coaching profession is very loyal to each other. Which is why Polk threw such a fit when Cohen took the job in 09. I do believe that without a run to the Supers that Bianco is probably done in Oxford. Bjork is looking for a way to win back some of the fan base and since he doesn't ever look at the long term, he'll see firing him as a short term victory. They'll end up with an ok coach, because this is the SEC and it's hard not to hire a good coach. But if anyone can make a bad hire, I have no doubt it'll be Ross.

Here’s the deal with ole miss baseball. They are always going to compare their program to ours. Always. And they will always be disappointed because the two really aren’t very close (despite what Kendall says). Bianco narrowed the gap the past 20 years and they want to fire him? Lolz. Please do.

Plus they'll have to pay Mike off and will more than likely be getting rid of Hoss Cartwright in the near future and have to pay him off too.
