Cool. Had that happen to me in October. Walked into a jam packed cafe one morning in Clovis, CA. Only spot open was at the counter. Sat down next to a guy that was originally from Quitman and went to State. We talked for an hour and a half.

It’s got to be a Vicksburg thing as I’m from there as well.

I assumed this thread would be about how you can’t go anywhere nowadays without running into Bobby.

Can confirm. From Vicksburg. Live 2000 miles from Vicksburg. Meet a lot of State fans and Mississippians in the PNW.

Goodness, I knew there were a bunch of Vicksburgers on here, but I’m realizing there are more than I thought.

I, too, am a Vburger

Graduated in 97 from St. Al. There are people who graduated from WC, Vicksburg, and maybe 1 or 2 from Porters Chapel. Porters Chapel is like USM - there are only 10 of them.

Went on a cruise to Alaska in 2008. Wore an MSU hat during the trip. At the stop in Ketchikan I was stopped by someone on the street there who told me his son attended MSU.

The wife and I checked into a hotel in Monterey, CA, a couple weeks ago (late at night) and the on-duty manager graduated from MSU and was a walk-on football player in late 90’s

I always thought Vicksburg wasn't big enough to house all the people that say they are from Vicksburg. I meet people from Vicksburg all the time, enough people to make Vicksburg seem larger than Jackson. Where do they keep all of these people?

Was in Skagway on a cruise in 2017 wearing my state hat. A tour bus driver got off the bus and saw me and yelled across the street "Go Dawgs! Class of '93 baby!".

Also ran into Eric Zacharias in front of The Louve when I was in France on a business trip in 2014. He, of course, was in a suit and tie but he saw my State hat and came over. I think he is an eye surgeon in Denver now.

I’m here in Rapid City, SD. Haven’t met a State fan yet, pretty sure I’m the only one in this county, or even this part of the state.

Internist and he looks to possibly have some thyroid "issues". Could be the herb I suppose in Boulder.

I don’t make it a habit conversing with the flashes but it would be entertaining, to say the least, splitting a bottle of Bombay Safire with you fockers and trading some war stories.

It will happen.

Yeah I bust balls, but at CYO conventions and softball tournaments we always hung out with Cathedral people. We share a love of driving across the River to buy alcohol when it was 18 to drink and hang out all day at the lake.

CYO softball. Good lord.

Here’s a perfect example of why I always wanted to skip through the halls of your school delivering knuckle sandwiches.

I guess it was the year 2000.
We took a good softball squad up to Jackson to compete in the annual CYO softball tournament. Y’all had bested us in football that year...and a intense CYO volleyball match which almost ended in what father Bryan coined ”Finem Mundi”

We wanted payback.

I remember it being a beautiful summer day..... double elimination We were waxing ***. Stacked. The girls we assembled were all gym rats. Like, I felt bad for St Joe Greenville. I think we beat them so bad during their first game, they just got back on the bus and headed North. Didn’t even stay for the picnic and watermelon.

The director of CYO back then was a big women. I believe she was a flash.....and she so badly wanted to see the CHS team lose to St Al in the finals. She got what she wished for......as we paired up for a best of a 2/3.

I believe we put 16 runs on the board in the first two innings of game 1. She was up in the bleachers sweating bullets. Game one ended like 27-7.
Game two started out much the same. I remember we went back to back to back..two girls and a guy, HR’s. There’s a joke in there somewhere.

Anyways, I guess it was about the 4th inning, game well in hand....about 65 miles to the west towards Vicksburg, a little heat lightning popped in the top of a cloud. You would have thought an f5 tornado of chucky dolls and razor blades was barring down on us. That big heffer tore *** onto the field, flailing her arms and hollering at the umpires. We all go sit in the dugout for 30 minutes while this women is frantically running amok as she was trying to decide on how to 17 us. 17 us she did.

Instead of winning it out right, we halved it. As I type this, 19 years later, I still am seething. To those involved in the CHS StAL rivalry, it goes back as far as MS has been a state. You don’t out grow that type of hate.....you just pass it along.

Leaving Korea in 1990, I had orders to Ellsworth but got them changed to Barksdale. I always heard Rapid City was nice for outdoor pursuits.

I've got a good buddy from Weir, he was a student manager under Jackie around 99. I would tell say what school he currently coaches at as he'll probably read this

One of my roommates here in Bham is from Rapid City. Came down to UAB for OT school and is dating a friend of mine that went to State. They’ve gone to visit the fam in SD several times. May see them soon.

Weir had some good football teams back in the day.
McKinley, Johnson two names that had a bunch of ballers that played at State. I played against a Roy Johnson, brother to Dennis I do believe, in juco while I was at NE. He played DT for Holmes. Weir is like Who's on first when talking to folks that don't know where Weir is.
