With all those walks he fits right into our current staff.

Here is another kid I saw throw Friday night. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.ba...ect-getting-attention-in-mississippi/?amphtml

Jared Johnson, R, Smithville. There were at least 16 scouts there. Word was that he had 4 SEC offers, maybe some of you that follow recruiting can confirm whether State is one or not. Pine Grove knocked him out in the 5th, but he walked in 2 runs or it wouldn't have been a bad outing. One of the scouts I talked to said he hit 95 8 times and 96 once. He had a breaking pitch that was decent but won't fool many twice. But good sized kid, really raw. I saw Woodruff pitch multiple times at 1A Wheeler, rawness and arm makes me think of him. I think if he gets on a sec campus where he can get stronger and get help with some breaking pitches he has a chance to be good.

We've offered. MSU OM & Bama have don't know who the 4th team is.

Supposedly he and his family are State fans so hopefully that helps.

Couldn't find a scouting report, went by the stats from his school. Lots of strikeouts, so he must have decent stuff.

Yea, but surprising to me that we would take a JUCO pitcher on that basis. Seems optimistic to think we could "fix" him quickly enough to benefit from his pitching.

Maybe it comes down to usage. It could be that he starts for them because he is one of their better pitchers but would not for us. Maybe he would be really good for 2 or 3 innings and so could be a great middle reliever out of the bullpen or maybe his stuff is best as a closer. Taking a JUCO guy is about filling an immediate need.

At this point its not uncommon to start taking some jucos or grad transfers. There are really no impact high school kids available. This is around the time we have landed kids like macnamee and neff

Oh that wasn't directed at you - I like to see the stats.

I was just commenting on all the head coaches on this board that question taking this guy's commitment based on this one line of stats. Never having seen him pitch, and most likely never having heard of him before today
