None of these things particularly bother me because they are just words and pictures on a message board and I can choose to ignore them if they offend me....but why are threads locked like the one about the HBCU baseball team full of Hispanics and anything related to race, gun rights, homosexuals, etc, while objectification of women is allowed with posts of half naked females bouncing and juggling all over the place ? The answer to this one can’t be “because it’s a sports message board” . What am I missing ?

ETA: I’m sure this one gets locked but I was looking for an answer from a moderator, I suppose.

Because those subjects get everyone into a frenzy and 90 percent of the time it’s going to end up as a giant pissing match to see who can outsmart the other. It’s not some conspiracy.

Have you ever read such a thread and seen someone post something like, "Gee, I never thought of it that way, I'm glad we had this discussion?" - No, all such threads quickly devolve into senseless ******** and no one finds common ground for agreement.

You might ask: "Arent threads dedicated to naked women in their own way sensesless?" -

Yes. The difference is the desire to stare at naked women far outweighs most of our desire to argue about nonsensical ********.

Because I said so! That works for my 7 year old sometimes, but not here. Also don’t say Lafayette people all work on oil derricks. But they definitely do.

Real answer: Debate and differing opinion are cancerous around here. Most threads get locked early after some moron makes a point that doesn't make sense, yet some applaud or project some bizarre interpretation. Sometimes the op is garbage.

It’s because posters (and society in general) can’t debate the issue without it divulging into **** throwing.

65 posts in 11 years. You don't see many of those. I'm sort of a low post guy too, so I understand. Sometimes you just have to speak what's on your mind.

All good and interesting answers. I don’t intend to champion getting rid of anything. I read what I want and ignore the rest - whatever the subject matter. It was just a question for conversation.

I rarely like to see threads locked or posters banned. SPS mods have the right to do it, I just rarely agree with it. If you like a thread, read it. If you have something to say, post it. If you don't like it, are bored with the topic, or the topic offends you, then go find another thread. It ain't that hard.

Real response: you are considered one of the worst posters here because nothing you post classify's as'debate and differing opinions'. You think you do. You throw **** at the wall to see if it sticks, respond emotionally and rarely consider you might be wrong.

Your posts may never reach the Coach34 or Will James status, but that doesnt seem to stop you from trying.

Half naked women only get 3-4 replies and quickly fall off the front page. Race, politics, and religion turns into a cesspool that only dies when locked.

I’ll offer a different opinion. I’ve been on the board a while and I’d say my world views have absolutely changed on a number of topics. I’d attribute at least some of that to things I’ve read on SPS.

There’s some really smart dudes on here and I appreciate it when they post. Couple of good stock tips too.

I think it’s also helped me develop a thicker skin in real life as well. I’ve posted some really dumb **** on here and you guys have called me out and rightfully so. “Iron sharpens iron” and all that stuff.

I’m not a fan of the threads that devolve into name calling, telling folks they’re idiots, etc. but I don’t think those should be locked. I just skip them and move on. If I was a mod I’d probably just delete those posts where people cross the line and PM them to knock it off or get tossed.

I think some of the mods have gotten tired of the same old arguments and have developed a quick trigger with the locks but overall it’s a really well-run board.

Because we live in a censored world. I guess arguing will crash the board, I don't know.

The problem with that is those threads go so long that they’ll take up the entire page if they aren’t stopped. Usually the points and counterpoints are made fairly quickly and then it devolves into some other subjects and the next thing we are chasing rabbits and name calling.

This is what bothers me about certain threads. They drone on and on with two posters refusing to relent. Constantly pushing the same thread to the top on a topic that 99% of us aren't here to read about. In the words of Dave Chappelle the lock is here to "Wrap it up"!

And I agree on the other. IMPP's threads are gone in a day. Those you truly can ignore.

When have we objectified women on here? I've always felt like my Ham Sammiches have been made correctly.

I think the answer can absolutely be "because it's a sports message board". But if for some reason that doesn't work for you,

Poo flinging related to race, gun rights, homosexuals is bad.

Half naked females bouncing and jiggling all over the place are good.

I don't understand what you don't understand.

And I say that as somebody that does like to participate in political type threads, but I just get why the mods don't want that on a board that's for Mississippi State sports.

The red Loctite at Lowe’s has always worked pretty good for me, but Permatex is good as well.

If there was an easy feature where you could hide entire threads, that would be helpful. Annoying when a thread stays near the top and it's just 2 or 3 people arguing back & forth about non-sports related topics.

You will not get censored if you are politically correct. That is the problem. It does not matter what is right or wrong.

I suggest people who are not politically correct (on whatever topic it may be) smarten up. Stop trying to emotionally fight battles in the open against the PC Parade. You will not win, they have the power at the moment. Do not cause yourself any more harm in a battle that cannot be won.

Stay quiet, work in the shadows.

Or, maybe, learn that it's ok to be considerate of other people and join the rest of the human race in the sunlight.

Because any time you discuss things outside of sports - there is an opportunity for it to delve into ****. As you see what's happening in this thread. We aren't consistent with locking - at least I'm not. Get mad, happy, indifferent about sports - talk about it. That was the intent of this board. It wasn't intended to push things outside of sports. We sometimes let the conversations happen. Sometimes we don't.

I imagine as the presidential election gets closer - we will do more locking.

I'll let this thread be open for a few more hours then as you guessed - it will get locked.

All it would take would be for this community to agree to just use common decency. For each individual to decide he/she is not going to be the first one to get personally insulting. Just don't cast the first stone.

This board could be so much better if the default was to treat everyone with respect unless or until they start the BS. But unfortunately they are way too many people on here who just get their jollies being dicks to other posters without provocation. In particular, there appears to be a cadre of trolls, etc who seem to live for that kind of crap.

I, for one, would be willing to bury-the-hatchet with every one of those who started that stuff with me, and that I've, "returned fire" to. I'd much rather participate in threads that are thoughtful and intelligent. Save the vitriol for Ole Miss and opposing fans, etc. But, I just don't see most of the trolls agreeing to do that. Too many come on here actually looking to be nasty...take out their frustrations here, on a forum where they know they can't really be held to account, as they would face-to-face.
