I was up until 1 this morning working on Ancestry.com. Before anyone says yea right know that I'm 100% serious. Well my 7th great grandfather was named Archibald Graham. If that name sounds familiar, the doctor/ballplayer on Field of Dreams was named Archibald "Moonlight" Graham. Well "Moonlight" was a real Doctor who played in one major league game just as the movie said.

Well I haven't found the exact link yet, but my 7th great grandfather Archibald and the ballplayer/Doctor Archibald were born like 120 years apart, but they were born in the same NC town. It's highly unlikely there were 2 Archibald Graham's from the same small town that were not related. Like I said I haven't found the exact connection yet but Moonlight will probably wind up being a 5-6th cousin or a 5-6th great uncle. But I'm now 99.9% sure we are related, and it wasn't as distant as it may seem.

Anyway I thought that was pretty cool and thought it might interest some if you. I love puzzles and mysteries so I will find this link.

I had to look at Fayetteville's wikipedia entry since it's now a city of over 200,000 people but there were less than 4,000 people living there in the 1880 census (Moonlight was born in 1876) so, yeah, what you're saying makes sense. And that is cool.

Nice.

Makes me want to try out Ancestry even more than I already did, although I'm sure I will not find anything remarkable there. But I really know nothing about my family on either side beyond great grandparents. And I don't know anything about one set of those.

Easy test: When you played ball, did you wink at the pitcher just as he went into his wind up? You know, make him think you know something he doesn't.

If so, you're kin.

Congrats. That's cool.

Now he's going to find the coolest Burt Lancaster photo he can find and use it as his avatar. (No sarcasterisks because I think there's a decent chance that might happen.)

I did get beaned in the head twice as a freshman playing West Union. Third time up the ump issued a warning, "Watch out you don't get killed."

I understand. Harry Lime has been my avatar from the start & I love using the Citizen Kane clapping gif in comments so I can't imagine making a change as well.

This is very cool.

Of course because this is Six Pack, there requires a smartass reply, so here goes: I'm assuming you got neither his intelligence nor his baseball ability?*

Well I'm no doctor but he only played in one more MLB game than I did so that's negligible but I'm quite positive he didn't have my chiseled, rugged good looks.

Y’all be careful with that. The FBI is now running all DNA obtained from crime scenes through ancestry.com and 23&me.

I like ancestry. I think you can do one month free, then it's like 19.99 a month, but the good thing is you can cancel your membership and if you get ready to do more research a year later then you. An rejoin and your work is still saved. And if you do a DNA test through them it allows you to msg ppl who you share DNA with if you hit a snag to help find ancestors. That's how I found out about my 7th great grandfather Archibald. I shared DNA with some of his direct ancestors and I was able to work backwards to me. I'll update if/when I find the exact connection.

If you want to dip your toes into ANCESTRY.com before you decide if you want to join, you can use the library version by accessing it through the MSU Libraries website. It doesn't give you access to the full version but gives more access than you can get as a normal visitor to ANCESTRY.
