I've had the kind that is supposed to "relax" and also had one that was supposed to "energize". Some people claim a few grams of the stuff works for them but I took 7 and 14 respectively (which is more than enough) and never noticed any real effects.

I ordered several different strains off a kratom site years ago, before you could just walk in random places and buy it. It did absolutely nothing for me, I couldn’t even tell I had injested anything. Now full disclosure I was just looking to get high, I didn’t have any pain. However now that it is widely available I have known people in chronic pain that do say it helps them a great deal.

I have personally used it to help with sleeping issues while I was quitting drinking. It taste very bad. I’m talking about so bad that you will request the taste of kale and dirt. I have not used it to try and get a high from it, but it has given me the desired drowsy affects that i was looking for.

I know some people that have used it while quitting addictions to opioids. It is supposed to help with the withdrawals due to activating the same resceptors as opioids would. So it can possible help with reducing withdrawals.

I did read somewhere that continued usage can cause addiction. So buyer beware.

Looks like it functions as an opioid, probably hitting some of the same receptor sites as morpheme, as the most consistent finding appears to be an analgesic effect. But that could be because of its activity at adrenergic receptor sites. Lots of alkaloid compounds in there, so who knows. My guess is that people are combining it with other opioids and its magnifying the reactions in some pretty dangerous ways. A doctor isn't going to know what's going on and how it might interact with other medicines because there is very limited understanding about what this stuff works. A much safer approach would be to see a good doc about managing pain with a known compound.

I tried it two years ago for two specific reasons, joint pain and as a sleep aid. First batch I purchased local had no effect except to lighten my wallet. I purchased more off a website and they sent several varieties two were ineffective and the third made me violently ill. I trashed all I had left.

No. It comes from a tree in Southeast Asia. It’s completely natural and has been used by the locals there for centuries.
