Is Luke Hancock still with the baseball team?

I was checking the roster today, after hearing the news that Cole Marsh is no longer with the team, and noticed we have 37 kids on the current roster, and have to cut down to 35 by spring.

When going thru the roster I noticed Luke Hancock was not listed anywhere. I hadn't heard any news but was curious.

We do have 4 catchers already on the roster. 2 returning players, and we brought in both a transfer and a freshman, so would make sense if he was one of the odd ones out, especially with the off the field issues he had this fall.

Didn't he get arrested for assault? Did he get cleared? I could see him taking a redshirt if he was still on the team while everything settled.

Yes, Marsh for sure out.

38 men on the roster with Marsh on it, on the official site right now. Minus Marsh makes 37

Luke Hancock is not listed anywhere on the roster. He's one of those that committed to the prior regime like in the 8th grade, so again wouldn't be surprised if he's somewhere else or one of the odd ones out.

Also about 90% sure that even red-shirts count against the 35 man roster you are allowed to have.

So we have to get rid of at least 2 more players, and if Hancock is actually on the roster, would have to get rid of 3.

Hancock participated in the last part of fall ball. He was out after the incident, but came back. Not sure on his status now.

Any player receiving scholarship money has to count towards the 35, whether they redshirt or are injured. That's what killed us in 2017.

Thanks for clearing that up. Thought that was the case.

We are down to 37 on the roster, 38 if Hancock is actually on it. So two or three more have got to go in the next few weeks. Wonder who they may be?

What makes you think the roster has been updated?

There was talk of this when the pre-fall roster was released. Then he went through the whole fall practice. I wouldn't suspect we get an updated roster until spring practice starts in January. And I don't suspect we will get a total picture on who is coming back until then.

I'm not 100% sure of anything.

However if this roster was posted in the fall. There are 38 people on it, meaning we have to get rid of 3 people. Usually its announced when someone leaves the program, like Cole marsh, so as far as I know we still have 37 or 38 on it, depending on Hancock.

I had heard that Luke had rejoined the team, but was simply curious.

Regardless we have to cut 2 or 3 more people and it has to happen soon. Usually it happens around this time so that the players that are cut can find other places to play.

And ALL that said, the fact that he was signed by the previous regime, he had troubles in the fall, this regime brought in 2 catchers, we have 2 returning catchers, and we are over the roster threshold, I figure he's on a short list that may not be with us come spring.

We don't have to be at 35 in the fall and the roster list on our website NEVER has to reflect 35. Walk ons that redshirt do not count against the 35. There are at least 11 guys on our current roster that fall into that category(no more than 27 on baseball aid at any one time not to exceed 11.7 total). "Walk ons" simply means guys on academic/outside merit-based scholarship that we've used extensively ever since Polk quit making excuses and Cohen started making solutions. You'd be shocked if you saw a breakdown of the talent level of guys we've had come through that weren't on any baseball aid at all. That's why the team GPA breaks last semester's record almost every single semester.

Final versions of that roster on the same page you are referencing here showed 36 players in 2017. 40 in 2016. 37 in 2015. 40 in 2014. 37 in 2013. Need I keep going? You aren't going to get updated cut lists from the hailstate website which is updated honestly about twice per year.

We may have a few more guys depart for various reasons -- but we do not have to cut anyone to make the 35. Just redshirt a couple of the guys not on baseball aid.

If you are honestly determined to chase this one to the end of the earth, your best bet is to hit up Gene. That's where you'll get real and current information about it.

Actually I am quiet familiar with all of the ways people are brought in, all of the scholarships and ways around the number. I'm fully aware there are walk-ons on each and every team that are there to do nothing more but boost the team GPA, but there are also good players who come from well off families that aren't on any at all to help the team.

35 guys however is the key number. You can redshirt non baseball aid people, you are exactly right. However, only 35 are allowed to dress, practice, participate, and be treated like players. If you are a not on that 35 man roster you are nothing more than a manager this season. And while you are right we may not have to cut anyone, usually players that take baseball serious, when they get told aren't part of the 35, they leave. Reynolds left for this very reason.

I'm not trying to chase anything. I saw where Marsh is no longer with the team. I checked the roster, saw where there are 37 guys on there, there was no Hancock, and was trying to see who else may be leaving to program or not in the teams plans this year. Seemed like a reasonable think to ask.

This for whatever reason, seems to bother you, I guess you are in some way connected to Hancock.

It all depends on the coach as to how the cuts are handled. The best option for coaches is to wait until right before the first game. This gives the staff the maximum amount of time to try to absorb injuries or anyone leaving on their own. That’s what Cohen did. The best thing for the players is to go ahead and make cuts now to give them a chance to go elsewhere for the spring.

I wonder how Lemonis will handle it.

I apologize for trying to explain how it actually works. Felt necessary because the OP was stupid and the repetitive hardheadedness of the follow-up questions simply makes you a dumbass. But I should have known better. I'm sure you'll hit back with something else repetitive and stupid, so I'll let you have the last word.
