I would tell AU to pay him his 32 mil and then walk away. Why settle for less when you know in another year the admin will be attempting to fire him then. Perhaps he is hoping to do enough next year that some other school like OM will hire him. Luke has one more year at best.

So come play for a coach that's probably going to be fired next year. This makes no sense by Auburn. What a disaster.

What do they have on him to make him re-negotiate his buyout? This is typical Auburn

The way I understand what’s going on is he basically guaranteed himself one more year to try to get the Gus Bus running on all cylinders by taking a hit on his buyout.

I think Gus realizes he is at his apex career wise. If they fire him next year he will probably never get another D1 job worth a crap. He will go for broke next season and historically he has had good seasons when he is feeling the heat.

He’s basically betting everything on next season and a large portion of next year’s success assumes he gets Kelly Bryant. So prepare for another fight over a transfer QB.

It has to be frustrating for their fans to go from Championship games to 6-6 or 7-4 type seasons. Saban has destroyed that program by making them think they have the right to be on equal footing as Bamer. But you know what?

17 Auburn!

Gus should go all in on trying to get Kahlil Tate instead of KB.

Does anyone have a pic of Bryant ringing a cowbell at the Arkansas game? We might get a lot of mileage out of that.

I think Gus's ego is clouding his common sense. There is no way in hell I would agree to a reduced buyout in exchange to coach one more year. They are essentially saying we want to fire you now but the money is too much and all he is doing is making it easier for them to fire him next year. Good gosh man, just last year you won the west and beat both participants in the NC final in the process. You were a win in the SECCG from going to the show yourself now just one year later they want to fire you for going 7-5! You will NEVER satisfy your employer while Saban is at bama. Make them pay you dude.

I personally don't think they will pull the trigger this year no matter what because they are obviously concerned about how much money they will have to fork over. I'd call their bluff.

Yes he does, and it helps it's an odd year with arguably three of their toughest opponents at home. Watch, they'll go 10-2 or 9-3 and be unable to fire him, yet again.. Or, he'll lose early to LSU on the road and they'll fire him after that (a la Les Miles @ Auburn 2016)

Think about it from this perspective.....

Sounds like Lowder and the boys are playing poker and Gus failed to call their bluff.

What if your employer gave you these options: 1. You can separate from the company immediately and we will hand you 7x your salary as severance for doing nothing more than sitting on your butt. 2. You can stay and put in 18 hours a day for one more year with the slim chance to keep your job but we reserve the right to can you for any reason and give you 3 years of severance. What idiot would choose anything but option 1?

I hope we're not recruiting any QB's named 'Cam' this year. Gus and staff are about to take cheating to a whole new level to save themselves. We all know Auburn has no shame, but this could be 80's-level SMU before signing day. Can't wait for the 30 for 30 in a few years.
