My wife is a beer drinker and not the beer flavored water type either. Invariably as the night winds down she will announce that she wants half a beer, not a whole beer. This implies that she wants me to drink the last half which I sometimes do but we seldom are drinking the same beer and changing beers for that last half just doesn't do it for me. I have suggested that she just drink what she wants and pour the remainder out but she doesn't believe in alcohol abuse. I have even purchased the little 8oz Miller Ponies or Coors Light cans to keep in the fridge but that isn't what she wants to drink. She thinks brewers should can 6-8oz beers for just such an occasion. I say that no one would buy them to make it cost effective but she argues that she and many more like her would buy them. I have agreed to present the question to the experts, what say ye Pack?

No need. My wife puts her half empty in the baby's bottle with a little crushed up Benadryl. We all sleep through the night better.

I read your post. Twice.
Unbelievably, this has driven me to actually get back to work.

Buy a wine stopper like this one. It will keep the unused beer carbonated and drinkable for a couple of days. I use them all the time on bombers.

Solved this one long ago, I too can’t bring myself to dump a half. Quite by accident discovered that simply allowing it to langer (opened) in the fridge makes no matter, if you’re honest, you would agree....

My wife is the same. She only wants beer ice cold and after a half beer she won't finish it because it's no longer cold enough for her. I'm a soft heart, after that beer has sacrificed half its soul, I won't let the 2nd half die in vain and gladly consume it no matter else I already have on my pallette.

So not to get way into the weeds here, but for this to happen at most craft breweries they would have to:

  • Re-tool their canning lines (most small canning lines are only tooled for 12oz, 16oz or have the ability to run both) this is not a small cost
  • Purchase another set of cans. The minimum order of cans is a full truckload (204,225) cans, or 25 pallets that are 9' tall.
  • Find somewhere to store all of those extra cans
  • Convince their distributors to pick up yet another SKU thats just a variant of an already existent product
  • Convince retailers to pickup another sku of an already existing product, which takes up shelf space, so some other product will have to disappear in any location that is not a dedicated craft beer store.
  • All of this for a product that actually will not cost much less, considering there is more labor, cost of packaging, etc etc per ounce of liquid going out the door.

This is why you only see the ponies from the big guys, they have the means to run 6 plus different packaging options for all of their products.

Is your wife German? Specifically from Cologne? When I was there, we would eat and drink at the breweries. They are lunatics about serving their beer cold (Kolsch, very good lager like ale by the way) in 6 or so oz glasses so it never gets a hint of warm. They think beer should be ice cold and I agree. With that said, tell the wife to frost a mug, it drinks so much faster...

Mrs. Socks says, "If she can't finish it off from a frosty mug she's high maintenance and you should divorce her ***. She's ovary acting about the whole situation."**

Man up and drink the half beer.

Why are we even having this discussion?
Easy for you to say, you never know what you are getting. It could be anything from Strawberry Abita to a 1817 Mango to some offbeat sour that she bought because the bottle was cute and would look good on her bottle tree.

Not German but does like her beer cold, she has a system. Open first beer, put second beer in the freezer, remove second beer from freezer and rotate third beer from the fridge to the freezer and so on and so on.

Let Mrs. Socks know that Mrs. Bite makes more money than Mr. Bite, she ain't going nowhere!

I will show her this tonight and declare that I was right! Two of the beers that we agree on are Pale Ale and Ballistic Blonde so on those I do not mind that last half.

The only time a 6-8oz pour is appropriate would be for a tasting or a high gravity beer... 10% or more

My wife got a new set of cans a few years ago. I can confirm they were NOT cheap, but it was worth it.

No offense but this is more of a wife question than a beer question**
