Seriously, you've essentially got 2 choices: Baptist Heart (Baptist Hospital) or Jackson Heart (St. D). Flip a coin. The thing is, virtually every one of the surgeons has at one time or another been associated with both hospitals. They bolt back and forth to the highest bidder worse than any college football coach ever thought about doing.

I have a condition called cardiomyopathy, and I was referred by my previous cardiologist (who is with Baptist Heart, won't name him but let's just say I was very much less than impressed with the man), to Dr. Charles Moore at UMC. Dr. Moore is a heart transplant specialist who trains other doctors in heart transplant surgery. The difference in his care so far vs. what I previously had is night and day. The best thing that previous cardiologist did for me was refer me to Dr. Moore.

Does anyone know of any reputable cardiologists in the area?

Thanks

Based on your previous post, I think staying away from cardinals baseball may decrease your need for a cardiologist**

Just kidding... hope all is well.

Dr Chris Waterer at Baptist Heart. Biggest Bulldog in Jackson. Hell, Baptist Heart is made up pretty much of fellow Dogs. Drs Warnock, Waterer, Thorne, Hamp Jones, all huge State guys. The only ******* in the group is a young dude named Hamilton. Guess where he went to undergrad?

I have been using Jackson Heart for over twenty years. Dr. Richard Gwynes is my primary cardiologist, he is great. They do rotate the the doc's, some are in the hospital for 1 to 2 weeks and then in the clinic for the same period. If you go in for an emergency procedure, heart cath., then another doc may perform the procedure. All the doctors I have had with Jackson Heart have been great. I have had 8 stents and 1 bypass over those twenty years. Hope this helps and good luck with whatever problem you are having.

Donnie Stokes. He just moved to the area within the year. He had been in Columbus for many years. You'll be very pleased with him.

Go to Ochsner in New Orleans if you are from Jackson and you have a cardiac issue. Trust me on this.

I don't think I'd base my choice of a cardiologist on which sports team he supports. :)

Rocket Man, that's easy for you to say, from Alabama. But I think there is a huge difference in their bedside manner. Especially if one doctor finds out which school you support.

Never used either one but I do, or did, know several guys around my age who went to Baptist Heart for what were considered “low risk” cardiac procedures (stents, cath, valve replacement) and came out in a body bag. My family has orders to take me to UMC or St D if I need a heart doc.

Yes go to James Warnock at Baptist but if you don’t want to offend the previous doc then go to Rick Guynes at Jackson Heart. Great doc, great guy and was chief of staff at St D.

Jackson Heart and Baptist Heart used to be together and operated as Jackson Heart at both Baptist and St. D.

They split, and both have good docs. My preference is Jackson Heart as they just seem more stable. My father had bypass done this year at Jackson Heart, and it couldn’t have gone better.

He saw Stokes and had Keller for the surgery. All were great. Harkins and Young also very good.

Dr Chris Waterer. State grad. and probably the most well respected heart doctor in Jackson. Unless you are in afib, he will refer you to Dr. Bensler.

But, but he went to Ole Miss. He loves State baseball though and was also a big fan of the Kang. Great guy. So is Guynes.

Pretty sad if that's the case.

Coming from a background in healthcare I can tell you there is a huge difference in bedside manner between State undergrads and their OM counterparts. You want your cardiologist to spend time talking to you and getting to know you. If you have a similar interest that is always the best way to ensure a more personal relationship with your healthcare provider. If you want a rushed visit because Chauncey Numbnut III, MD is trying to
to heard his patients out so he can get to Double Decker Weekend then by all means chose a OM undergrad.

Coming from a background that has nothing to do with healthcare, I want my cardiologist to fix my damn heart.

I've found the thing to do with Dr. Numbnut is casually mention your cardiac issues began while enjoying a glass of Chardonnay on the balcony of City Grocery after a grueling day of shopping for bow ties and ascots and then give him a big Hotty Toddy! and do a beer shower. Usually gets his attention.

Reid Cotton at Jax heart clinic at St. D, he's mine and I've known him since infancy. I had a quadruple bypass at 44. Not overweight, no high BP, no diabetes, non smoker just lucky I guess.

If you need the surgery, Dr. Keller at St. D

**** in a long line of stupid **** posted by you. My uncle is a fantastic physician who went UM undergrad, along with many others. That doesn’t affect his professional practice in the least. It’s no wonder that Ruby Falls gift shop worker owned your dumbass
