OT: Best value in a mattress?

I see these facebook ads for Casper and Nectar mattresses. They look cool. But then I wonder if it's best to just go to the local furniture or mattress store and deal with one of those guys face to face.

Any advice on buying a new mattress?

I ordered one online a few years ago. I had a good experience, if you dont like it they will refund you and have a charity come pick it up. Basically the internet mattresses are cutting out the middle man so in theory you should be getting a better deal or more value.

I bought ours on Wayfair. I had never purchased any furniture online before, but got a good deal and it turned out great. Most comfortable mattress I e ever slept on.

Tempurpedic knock off at Costco

I used to be a mattress snob, until I slept on one. $500 for a queen, $550 for a king a couple years ago. Costco will even let you return it if you don't like it.

This. Bought one from Lands End for about $200 4 years ago. Some of the best money I've ever spent.

I got a Tuft and Needle and love it. #1 piece of advice: Don't swap to a foam mattress during warm weather months. All of them are much hotter than traditional mattresses no matter that they say. You'll eventually get used to it, but it will take 2-3 weeks. If you are going to get one, do it now before it gets hot. The acclimation period will be easier.

Slight hijack: What's the deal with handmade signs selling mattresses on street corners? I figure it has to be code for something.

Did a ton of research because we needed a special mattress for my wife. This mattress sheds heat faster than others on the market. The cover is bamboo which is very soft and bacteria resistant. This is the most comfortable mattress we have ever owned. We've had it since January and no regrets! https://www.dreamfoambedding.com/product/ultimate-dreams-eurotop-latex-mattress/

If your around Greenwood, Sleepy Steve’s has a large selection of nice mattresses at cheap prices. Think they are primarily from liquidation sales or inventory excess that he acquires.

The Mrs. decided we needed a new mattress, so we ended up going with Casper and we love it.

Oh it’s just a marketing ploy by the tax return people. See....they bait people shopping for mattresses then offer to do your taxes or vice versa.

I was looking for a mattress 2 years ago and a guy I knew gave me a number to a person in Jackson. She has literally 1,000's of name brand mattresses that have very minor scratches or torn off tags. They are all brand new. I ended up with a Sterns and Foster Lux Estate for like $300. It is awesome! Now this warehouse is in the hood and feels extremely shady but its legal.

You have nothing to lose by trying any of the online mattresses that offer a free return and full refund. There's no way to know if you'll like a mattress until you sleep on it a few nights, and you can't do that in a store. Most online mattresses will let you try it for 90 or more days and still let you return for a full refund. I recommend trying as many of the online ones as you can.

We tried Casper and Purple. Neither gave us any problems when returning and we got a full refund. If I were making the decision alone, I would have kept the Casper. But my wife didn't like it (I don't remember why). We tried the Purple next and it slept cooler than any mattress I've ever had, and I liked that. But I didn't wake up in the morning feeling like I got a full night's sleep, even though it was comfortable. My wife felt the same way.

We ended up just going to a mattress store and getting one. You may do the same in the end, but I recommend trying out some online ones that offer a trial period with free returns and full refund first. You have nothing to lose.

I'd say buy your furniture from a furniture store.

But buy your mattress from the Mattress Gallery.

Near where I live there is a small manufacturing building that has been several different furniture related businesses over the years. I don't know the business owner but had some land dealings with the building owner and we stopped by the building one day. We walk in and there is stacks of used mattresses everywhere and a crew of guys cutting the old covers off and a couple of machines sewing new covers on them with name brand labels on the covers. I asked where all the used mattresses come from and was told hotel chains and furniture dealers who haul off your old mattress when you buy a new set. I asked if it was legal to put a new cover on a used mattress and he just laughed at me. I picture the place you describe as the type of place that sells these "New" name brand mattresses.

I just recently bought the purple mattress. I love it. My wife, who had back problems, also loves it. It’s a unique feeling mattress. I’ve had it about 7 or 8 months and am very happy.

That's I'm thinking too. I knew Casper and Purple had 100 or 120 days to try. Nectar has a 365 day trial.

My concern is could I try each of the three, and if we liked the 1st or 2nd one the best is it possible to go back to one of those? I guess I could purchase it to start and then my wife the second time after trying each of them.

Are you just replacing your mattress, or are you going to go all out and get the adjustable base? We got bases (there are two of them for individual movement) and really like them. Probably paid too much but it's only money .... Got them at Mattress Firm.

Buying a mattress really depends on what kind of sleeper you are. There's not many mattresses that are good for side AND back sleepers.

Just replacing my current mattress. I can probably get another year or two out of it. But it's starting to sag in the middle a little I think.

I'm usually a side/belly sleeper. Wife is a side/back sleeper.

This is what we have and love it, haven't noticed it being hot. I have hip issues and it helped.

Try all of them for 100 days and return them. Probably 5-6 good options. In 2 years there will be more and use their 100 days then. Then have your wife start from the beginning and do it all over. Free beds for life.

Tempurpedic.

We bought a king size breeze model(breeze is cooler). Its the Contour Elite Breeze.
Incredible mattress.

All the Tempur mattresses are fantastic and cater to all types of sleepers.

1st night and every night since has been lights out the whole night thru.

The off brand memory foams are different. They can be good if thats the feeling you want, but they are different.

Check out Zinus.com. I have just bought my second mattress from them and absolutely love it. I have gotten the Hybrid which is coils and foam. You can get a king for under $500 and as low as $250 depending on your choice. free shipping. 100 days to try it. The mattress has been sold by Sams Club but you can go direct.

Also remember there's a break in period for most mattresses. I have a friend that keeps trading in mattresses after 1-2 nights because he and the wife don't like it. I can't get it through his scull that he needs to give it more time.

It's a combination of the stiffness of most new mattresses and the transition period for your body. You can get comfortable with about any mattress after 45-60 days as long as your not in the extreme soft or firm categories. After 5-7 years almost all mattresses become a nasty combination of too soft and too firm.

Ask me how I know???? From good old Mississippi State. I took a furniture class and we spent a month on mattresses. Now this predates the rise of Sleep Number and Memory Foam... But I have you covered on waterbeds if you want to go full swinger style.

It's not a money laundering scheme, but they did have a broker skimming hundreds of thousands of dollars in kickbacks on every real estate transaction without the company's knowledge. It's one of the reasons for the explosive growth. The guy ended up taking home several million.

I don't know how he isn't in prison yet, but it's coming.

Mattress Shame

I have a mattress that exceeds most actuaries life expectancies. My mattress has scares of 2 children sleeping in the bed for longer than they should have. I need a California king replaced immediately, as it has more issues than New Orleans roads; however, I’m embarrassed to leave the mattress on the street or have someone pick it up. I think hazmat teams would surround my home upon the mattress leaving through the front door. Oh, the horrors. Any suggestions?

The moron that wears the crown and is in all the Mattress Firm commercials used to live the next to us. Creepy dude. Nice wife though. Never could put the two together. She really yearned to be in Chip’s inner circle at Pinelake.

I went to elementary school with him (her too actually, though she was older). The other one is his brother, who used to be the baby in the Mattress World commercials in the 1980's.

Mattress Company owned by a Bulldog

Solaysleep.com is an online mattress company here in Misssissippi and started by a P.E., graduate of State and a Bulldog Club member. After almost 2 years in R & D, the site launched in February. I purchased one to replace a nearly new and extremely expensive memory foam mattress that was killing me. The Solay is really nice...not sore when I wake up. Solaysleep.com if you want to check it out. Super mattress and the website is awesome.
