I saw names mentioned in several threads below but figured we could concentrate them in here.
  • Nick Mingione
  • Butch Thompson
  • Lane Burroughs
  • Gary Henderson (interim)
    [*]Tommy Raffo

These are in no particular order. Who else is on Cohen's short list?

I want someone

that is relatively young and can recruit top 10 classes every year.

We have a LOT to offer.

Brand new stadium, on of the top 2 fan bases in the country, an opportunity (if successful) to be one of the highest paid coaches in college baseball...

as long as they are an elite recruiter, dont bunt with a runner on first and no outs 80% of the time, and dont diddle on the side, im good. our next step is critical.

I think you've got the most likely options correctly ordered. And may the ineffable tetragrammaton help us if wiffo is anywhere near the list. The assistant head coach at TCU is probably on his short list as well.

I did have a Kentucky friend of mine tell me we probably wouldn't be able to pull Mignione from them. They are good and have a new stadium. I LOL'd at him.

Mingione is someone that Cohen knows he can trust, and in light of recent events I think that’s very important.

Plus he fits all the other categories you are looking for. Success as a head coach, great recruiter, young, energetic, personable guy. He is basically Cannizaro except Cohen knows he can trust him.

Mingione would finish building that stadium with his own two hands if it meant he could get the hell out of Lexington faster.

I'd let Gary Henderson get a chance. He was good at UK. 2nd would be Butch Thompson but that's bc of his success at Auburn. How much has built there himself? Not sure, but he's def worth a look.

We won't have to settle, which is a good thing. Whomever is the top assistant in the SEC or ACC should get an interview.

One man's opinion, but Henderson long term would be the definition of settling. I just don't see Cohen Matt Lukeing us.

eta: by Matt Lukeing I mean hiring Matt Luke, not putting a hit out on us.

Henderson went to two Regionals in eight years at Kentucky. He’s going to have to have an extraordinary season this year just to have a chance.

Burroughs recruited our first classes that set the tone for 2013. He is from Mississippi, and he knows the formula for winning here. He's the guy if I'm AD

Mingione has come a long way from his only attribute being able to stomp on the first base pad between innings***

I wish, but forget it. Even with his success, baseball is a distant, distant 3rd at Louisville that is likely highly insulated from any of that.

I would like to see us keep Jake Gautreau as asst. coach/recruiting coordinator, but I'm not sure he will stay with us after this season. I believe he is loyal to Cann.

He may say hell no but I’d back the truck up and make him say no. In my opinion, he’s one of the best in college baseball.

I remember reading this Baseball America article a couple months ago on the top assistant coaches: Link.

Saarloos of TCU and Brown of Vanderbilt would be my top assistant coach choices.

I'm intrigued by Dan McDonnell of Louisville though.

I'm just saying he should get a fair shot if the team performs well this year. Maybe MSU is a great fit for him?

I can't help but

laugh when I see who some of the folks saying Mingione...they're the same people that 3 years ago said he was terrible and didn't know anything about coaching.

Other than them both playing at Tulane that is all they have in common. Riser is young up and coming, connects to players and recruits well, knows this area, and is a proven winner...seems Cohen’s type. He will get a big time job soon, would like to see us look at him.
