Mullen, Grantham, Sunseri had a Gator Chomp photo op at Fabien Lovett's house.... just more of a reflection of what a lazy recruiter Mullen is...Lovett is a great prospect, but instead of building relationships with recruits in Florida, he's still trying to poach Mississippi...

I don't care in this case. If he's not coming here, I'd rather see him go play for Mullen than OM get to use him for their annual silly PR stunt.

I will make sure to show up at Mullen's next marathon and repeatedly trip him for 26.2 miles.

I really don't think it is lazy. Recruiting is about relationships. Mullen and Co. already know these kids. Why wouldn't they go after kids they already have relationships with? The perceived obsession with our recruits will go away once Mullen and Co. create a footprint in Florida.

Well it's a damn shame he couldn't have capitalized on more of these wonderful "relationships" with big time prospects while he was still our HC through the years.

It is about connecting a player to a school. He is far enough away that it is pretty certain that he would not be recruiting Mississippi if he did not already know the players. It is a bush league move for Mullen to do this but we already know that he is definitely a bush league guy who does not really want to put the time into recruiting that is necessary.

only problem i have with it is the development of those relationships was financed by MSU (coach salaries, expenses, travel, etc). not the most ethical thing. but i guess it's not uncommon.

When Mullen came to us from Florida, he didn't recruit the players Urban Meyer wanted. He said he was going to concentrate recruiting in Mississippi, and dominate the state. Don't think he succeeded.

That gray area is where you can judge people's true character.

There is no gray area. This is a dog eat dog world and there is a limited supply of quality D1 recruits. You do your best for your current employer immediately or else your employer finds someone else to pay 6 million a year.

^^^^^ This^^^^^ the only time he "recruited" Florida was when he was job hunting... it netted us A 3 star DL who never got much playing time

I think we’ll see less and less of Mullen as time goes along. He just knows some of these guys from being here. There may be a couple next year that are soph now, but after that I bet we won’t see much if any from him.

Not in the flesh, as I am sure after a few years of 7-9 wins in Florida he will be headed to pasture.

Unfortunately, we will still see him on the tube every year as bowl season approaches in perpetuity.

Uhhh, Chad Bumphis. Plus that was the only Fla recruit at the time who wouldn't have laughed us out of his house

What about the recruits he had relationships with while he was the OC at UF when hr first came here?

Donny is gonna get eaten alive on the recruiting trail in Florida by Richt and Willy. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him lose a battle or two to Joey freshwater and strong.

Mullen is a bad recruiter today but when he first came from Florida he was just plain awful....so I seriously doubt that he had built the type of relationship with recruits to where they would follow him to Starkville. It’s more likely that they were interested in Florida in spite of Mullen.

What about them? He was a head coach here for 9 years. So he gets to know recruits for several years and then leaves and he is supposed to just forget they exist because he doesnt want to step on MSU's toes. Whatever. I don't like it either but we all know that we would do the same damn thing if we were in his situation. Like I said, once he establishes himself in Florida, this will go away for the most part.
