I am extremely proud of the job Cohen has done as the AD of Mississippi State University. I’m going to be honest, I was slightly skeptical about the hire initially. Any hesitation I had was quickly squashed and he continues to prove himself as a man that understands the dynamics of not only running an athletic program, but excelling at it as well.

He brought in Coach Can. who has already proven himself to be a dynamic hire. Now he is obviously doing a great job handling the Mullen situation. I do understand that the fan base buying into programs, purchasing tickets, contributions, etc. was in motion when he was hired. But the man has done a great job putting Mississippi State athletics on a continued path of growth and winning.

I think the future of our athletics program is very bright and success will continue. I also believe we are moving beyond a University that is merely a stepping stone job to a greener pastures SEC opportunity. Looking forward to years to come. HAILSTATE

I was thinking about how Cohen compares to our past AD's the other day. I'm not sure I wouldn't take Byrne back... but I like Cohen better than loafers. I think Cohen is definitely a good person to have in charge.

I'd have liked to see him slam a baseball bat into Luke's knee cap at the end of the Egg Bowl, but other than that I approve.

The iB needs no bat. He'd have Fat Luke on his knees begging for mercy from merely a tongue lashing. Cannz standing behind him would help as well.

If Mullen stays and we throw the right amount of $ at the assistants to recruit and coach at a high level then yes IB gets my vote.... And I like him already by the way...

One thing that Mullen said , in the last ten days or so

It's good to have an AD that has been an actual coach.

I may be wrong but I seem to remember AD's we more than often coaches first in the past and that there was a gradual change towards a CEO type.

I think we benefitted from the CEO type, to begin with, but I have to agree that Cohen being a coach first helps a lot in our system.

DocHoliday hit the nail on the head with his post. It's almost like he pulled the words out of my head.

Just curious but what exactly has Cohen done besides hiring Cannizaro that proves he’s a great AD? That’s the one hire that was easy for him based on his contacts. He hasn’t been tested really at all in a lot of areas. I’ll be a little worried when he has to make a football hire. He was set up very well to succeed. Most importantly he hasn’t proven that he can fundraise or navigate thru booster relations.

Agreed. I know nothing of that world, but it ALWAYS helps having a leader, boss, foreman, etc. who has been in your shoes, regardless of field. From ditch digging to global sales, the same holds true.

Have you been a State fan long? I won’t name drop..

Lets just say his resume has already exceeded the entire tenure of some imo. You brush off the “easy hire” per his contacts. Isn’t that what politics is all about? Contacts. Damn good hire. He has orchestrated the entire Mullen bit effortlessly so far. Carry on

Edit to add: If you don’t think that he hasn’t been navigating through booster relations with Mullen being sought after as he is. I can’t help you.

One thing I have noticed is that Cohen is always on the sidelines during football games, and he will even get on a player if they get too cocky. When I was at MSU the AD was in the press box, but Cohen always desires to be in the action. I think that helps recruits know that the department is behind the team all the way.

That’s true and he sits court side at basketball. He gets INTO it, too. Funny to watch him get mad at a bad call.

If he did nothing more than let coaches and players know that their AD was the Original Intense Bastard and expecting nothing less from them then that would be enough for me.

Wait, what?? You really have no clue what you are talking about. The Cannizaro hire was NOT easy. He was young, he had no head coaching experience, he was untested. Places like MSU usually pull in an experienced coach with a long resume. When Cohen hired him there were a lot of questions. It’s real easy to sit here after the season he had and act like this was an easy, natural hire but that simply is not true. Cohen has done a great job.

We hope he will not make a football hire for the next ten years.

Booster giving takes care of itself if we are winning.

Hopefully he tells the boosters to leave Dan alone. That is what works best in any FB program, and something a lot of schools (wink, wink OM) do not do.

It is a little early to say Coins*** is our best AD ever, but I have to say..... over the past day 50 years I have followed State he has very little competition....
Byrne, possibly Strickland.... maybe Maddox for the older crowd...

I know few care about women's soccer at State, but Tom Anagnost is going to prove to be a great hire for the university. Best finish in 16 years.

So all I’ve heard is that Mullen is thrilled to have Cohen as his AD and not Stricklin anymore. Yet he leaves to join Stricklin the 1st chance he gets... I hope y’all are right about Cohen being able to make a big time hire, because this will be a huge 1st test for him.
