It comes down to this. Can he recruit high level players. Can he get elite portal players to come. We don’t have to be an NBA factory but you still have to get elite talent. Can he do that is the question. I guess we will see.

Possibly, but he's going to need to bring in world class assistants IMO, because nothing in his past suggests that he is personally going to recruit at an elite level.
UCONN is the blueprint. Overlook the entitled 5 stars. Look for team players who can shoot and guard.
He’ll recruit better at UK than he did at BYU. Hopefully better enough that we can win some meaningful games.
UConn's last two title teams have had 5/6 pro's. Hurley is a great coach but he isn't doing it with scraps.
He killed the portal. Hopefully we can also.
And yet he still beat Kansas, Baylor and Iowa State this year. We lost to UNCW and three in a row at Rupp.
90% of recruits in America don’t know who Mark Pope is. That should tell you enough.
I'm done caring about getting the Top 25 elite players. Plenty of really good players that don't get the hype. If he can get them to play together, that's what matters.
They were supposed to be good this upcoming season, number 10 in this poll. So it looks like he has some players.

We shouldn't worry about 5* players that are overrated, don't perform and leave (i.e. Justin Edwards and probably DJ Wagner).

Recruiting to UK is totally different. He will be able to get players - especially playing a run-and-gun style.

You literally can't cuddle or have coffee at BYU

It’s a religion founded on white supremacy. It’s basically Christianity + overt White supremacy. It’s not controversial to say they have trouble recruiting black athletes. They had some good black players over the years, but Pope was recruiting there with a hand tied behind his back.

They lost to 11 seed Duquesne in the tourney. Finished 5th behind Santa Clara 2 yrs ago, but sure I guess.
