Well, F4 didn't exist before Rupp came here. Nor did UK basketball if we are being truthful. He kind of turned it in to what it became. Hall was an assistant, which is you typically promoted to HC back in that timeframe. There weren't the coaching seaches and massive salary negotiations and **** we have today.Tell us all about the final fours and championships that Rupp, Hall, Pitino, Tubby, and Cal won before they came to UK
Pitino had a F4 at Providence in his last year coaching college before returning to college and coming to UK. And he had only coached 6 years at legit D1. His first year at BU, they weren't even in a conference. Then he was in the NBA Atlantic conference finals the year before he came here.
Tubby wasn't a good hire, but he was 1 year removed from 3 sw16s in a row in his first 5 years if coaching. He was also a 2 time MVC champion and 2x MVC coach of the year. He was basically hired because he had a connection to Pitino as an asst.
BCG had none, and we all know how that went.
Cal had 2 F4's. 1 at Umass and 1 at Memphis, including a runner-up finish. Then 3 additional E8's and 2 more SW 16's. Naismith college coach of the year in 96, 3x a-10 COY, 3x C-USA coach of the year. Won the C-USA tournament 4 times and the A-10 tournament 5 times.
