I think everyone knew Barnhart couldn’t make a splash hire.
This would be so underwhelming and I would have rather had Cal back for next year and take a chance with someone else a year from now.
A positive is we would keep some recruits and maybe get VJ Edgecombe. And he is a coaching upgrade over Cal. He just isn’t flashy.
I'll happily take Scott Drew over another season with Cal. He isn't my top choice, but my top choice may not be feasible. Drew is as good as anyone not named Jay Wright, Brad Stevens, Billy Donovan or Danny Hurley, and much better than most. There's not too many guys out there who have won a national championship to choose from. Scott Drew certainly has a better resume than Bill Self had when Kansas hired him. That worked out okay for them.
Ive screamed "anyone but Cal" for months and won't stop now. Wish we would go all out on Hurley, Oats and Pearl....but I won't be shocked if Drew crushes it here, he is a massive upgrade to lifetime contract Cal.

I think you are right. The job is not highly-desired by top names. It is a very tough gig.
We would field competitive teams for sure. Just not what everyone is excited about.

His stats don't impress me, but what concerns me is that he's a "company man", been at his job a long time. You tend to become complacent, lose drive.

Lol, he has never won a Big 12 tournament. Has only tied 2 times for the big 12 regular season championship. He has 1 F4 and 2 other E8's in 20 years. That’s a downgrade.
