I do think alienating the last 15 years of players will be a negative.
Cal sold us on a get rich quick scheme. The loan sharks are coming for payment.

Of course his former players rock with him . He has personal relationships with them and they were with him when times wasn’t bad like they are now .

This isn't the University of Calipari.
All of his players are Cal guys. They didn’t come to Kentucky because it’s Kentucky. They came because of Cal. Pretty simple really. They love him, not UK
I said it in another thread, but we’ll have a couple weeks of stuff like this and then it’ll die down. It does suck that we will have this split with some guys, but so be it.

Pitinos players did the same thing. It doesn't mean much at this point. Getting rid of Cal is well worth loosing players who will most likely be sitting in a rocking chair in 5-7 years.
And that's just fine, if you think about it. People treat you how they feel about you.
I don’t know about all that but the fans supported him through thick and thin and would be nice to have guys that love to come back. I’m not opposed to them being supportive to Cal but shade thrown at UK right now will definitely be blown out of proportion.
They were never my favorites. Not bitter either, just a fact. Never wished them bad, but idc what the one and done guys do outside of their time at UK.
That said, the Chuck Hayes post kinda stung.
They don't care about that. They got what they wanted out of UK, and that's MONEY and the NBA.
Randles wheels fell off as soon as the tv came on for the national championship game and about 3 other times since then in the pros. He probably could use a full overhaul.

It'll be up to the next coach to build a bridge to past players. There's nothing unusual about players siding with their coach. It'll all work out. Tubby was coming to games as an elder statesman, and people here are all ready to bring Pitino back. Time heals.

Out of the 50 NBA players he had here, we may have gotten 3/4 of those if he weren't here. (We had very few for years). The man means a lot to the guys whether fans want to admit it or not.
Players don't go for the school any more.
They are alienating themselves.
I don't think we will lose them. We just have to remember they probably favor Cal a little more than UK, and that's fine.
We as fans probably should let the player stuff go, so long as it's not too damaging. Let them make their statements and move on. UK will be here for them long after Cal is.
We may alienate some first-five-years guys and that's unfortunate but they just didn't stick around to see the threat Cal eventually posed to the school they loved. And we can't help that.
But as for guys from the past nine years. Except for the Fox/Monk/Bam team none of them really seemed particularly happy as a team all the way through the season. For every PJ Washington and Jamal Murray there's a Skal or Wenyen to balance that out. And there must have also been a good number of guys who saw what happened to Skal and Wenyen and at least had some opinions they kept quiet. Even from that Fox/Monk/Bam, Isaac Humphries certainly ditched when he had a lot of eligibility left and no clear competition coming in to steal his playing time.
We'll definitely lose some but I don't think we'll lose all. People like Derek Anderson and Rondo saw really clearly petty much all along what the deal was. Those people had the advantage of being in a better system, but except for the first-five-year guys I'd say the systems everyone went to later on were probably better. My guess is a lot of them will figure it out eventually. Devin Booker, for instance, choose to give a speech to Alabama this year but not to Kentucky.
I don't pretend to know so many details. But I doubt we'll lose everyone. If some of them choose to stay Kentucky fans and still be dedicated to a younger, sharper, humbler, authentically driven Cal, maybe an idealized version of even the Cal they knew, that doesn't hurt us any. Their choice, whatever any of them do. We'll be fine.

Even that team lost 11 games and didn't win the SEC or SECT. Cal has been losing a lot of games every year except 3 or 4 super teams.
But yes, Cal's demenaor has changed and not for the better.
