Cal needs to have an uncomfortable conversation with Quaintance and have him look elsewhere. We don’t need a 16-17 year old kid on the court next year. We are at 6 scholarships and need portal kids more than anything (obviously).
If he’s ok with the bench though why not? Overall I agree though. You can’t have children against grown men. That will and has not worked. Cals future depends on his ability to hit the portal and pick off 3 - 4 grown men who can ball. That may ultimately be his problem. His schtick sounds good to young guys but the older smell Bs. Honestly I don’t think cal is going to do anything unpredictable at this point. He isn’t even making staff changes. It’s absolute insanity

Fland was impressive, but he's gonna have to work on his body. He's slight. Guards in the SEC play hack and slap all game long.

He is a 2 year player because of his age. I suppose he could transfer though. Cal can’t tell this kid to take a hike. If he did he would never be able to sign another freshman. It’s like when a journalist burns his source. People don’t forget that

In most cases, if he’s OK with the bench, why not would be fine.
But….due to the state of the program, we need to win NOW. We need immediate impact guys. But who knows….may Quaintance could be that guy. We’ll have to see who stays/goes to see where he falls in line on the depth chart.

He’s no impact if he’s 16/17. Not in modern college basketball

It is hard to get a read on big men in the McD game, guards usually look better and tend to dominate the ball.

He’s college ready with his frame. I’m just thinking IF we have Bradshaw, Z, Ugo, Knox, Cyril, and Quaintance, who’s the odd man out?
I’m guessing Bradshaw and Ugo transfer out and Z returns. I’m fairly certain we lose 2 of those 3. Z and JQ can play both big positions, but I’m not sure they can guard both positions.

I’m guessing we only bring 5 freshmen and return 3 players.

Flagg didn’t show me much
I sat live at the McDonald's All American games between 2011 and 2016. I remember watching Fox in the 2016 Mickey D game. He didn't really look sensational at all, but he ended up being one of the most dynamic freshmen we've ever had at Kentucky. You can't take away much from these games.

People saying JQ should leave is just insane to me. I don't care if he's 12. He's a 6'10 240lbs monster. I see a unpolished, but more athletic Demarcus Cousins. By year two he's a 1st team AA in the making.

I see him developing into an Amare Stoudemire type by the time he's 18/19. He does things that basketball coaches just laugh at due to being amazed he's that gifted. He has elite hands. The way he moves isn't normal for a CBB player now--and he does that at 16. That fake handoff and drive to get a bucket is what you see in the NBA/high level CBB now and he's got that down due to his agility and burst. When he gets stronger. The play where he had a steal and threw a sick pass to Ian Jackson for a dunk.....I mean that's type of pass a guard makes-most bigs after that steal throw a rainbow lob that gets picked off.

Quaintance has the most upside of anyone in this game and not really close. The fact you have him for 2 yrs is INSANE. What a talent.

I agree. Great potential. I think he had 4 steals and 7 rebounds. Didn’t seem overwhelmed. Good hands. Natural rebounder and his his explosiveness will explode as he matures.

I'm thinking the same thing, but Dillingham was the same way and did fine. He can add some muscle but if he's quick and skilled enough he'll find a way. Not expecting him to be as good as Dilly but I'm optimistic after seeing him tonight.

It would be nice to put JQ as a walk-on to free up a scholarship. Obviously someone would pick up the tab
When have we ever used all 13 scholarships before? One or two of the older walk-ons always get awarded them at the end of the offseason.

Have you really looked at the portal and how it stands right now?
Idk who else will ultimately enter but as of right now 23 portal>>> 24 portal.
We don't have to cut anyone loose to bring in Cliff but if he goes elsewhere, what's behind him.
Can't see how anyone could say without question that Freeman will be better than Knox and Richmond.
Maybe, maybe not.
I'm not against the portal and we should get at least 2 but some act like portal recruiting is a guaranteed success.

JQ looked very impressive to me.
He was physical, played defense and rebounded. His quickness stood out.
I’m excited to have him for two (2) years.

Here is the box score …

Knox is much better than I read. Like the comment he’s changing his body. 3 level scorer and physically developed. Hits the 3 but can drive it to the hole and finish.
I was surprised at how little he played in the game. Maybe he was hurt, as I hardly recall seeing him in the second half.

You’re clueless. Where do y’all get this stuff from? It’s embarrassing at this point.

Please elaborate, Dr. Naismith. Would you rather have a 17 year old Quaintance next season or a 22 year old established transfer.
This isn’t me saying JQ isn’t worthy. This is due to the current state of the program and UK needing to win now.
You saying it’s embarrassing at this point is embarrassing at this point. You seem content with another first weekend exit.

I've heard some people online talk about how Flagg really didn't have much competition in Maine and the leagues he played in. I'm not saying that's true, but their take was that he might not be quite as good as people think.
Based on the first 2 seasons Scheyer hasn't shown he can develop anyone either. He's recruited 6 top 20 recruits that have played at Duke and none improved and a couple saw their draft stock drop.

Fwiw, Jayden is 16 years and 10 months. He'll be 17 in June.

And no, I don't love that, but let's keep in mind he didn't just turn 16. He's going to be playing at Kentucky in November not a whole lot younger than many other freshman were here.
