I've said multiple times I'm not excited about anyone out there

that said, Cal doesn't get this team to the final four, he needs to go.

He should be gone already

I'm not going burn couches beating Auburn and Bama when UK is out of the SEC and isn't a 1-3 seed going into the tournament

apologies to anyone on here posting that was an active fan when Rupp was still coach

however, the most exciting times of our collective lives as fans has been with Pitino and Calipari

what is the common denominator between them?

both took teams prior to UK to a final four
both have NBA coaching experience
neither of them had previous ties to UK coaching family tree or playing at UK.'

don't see any reason why UK should not continue with that criteria (and more importantly, ONLY that criteria) for a future coach.

I'm not excited about anyone out there either.

I know Cal's latest results haven't been what we've wanted but I love the players he brings in

I’ve been saying for the last few years that people need to be careful what they wish for.

Cal needs his chair lit up quite often but there’s not one realistic candidate who is historically or recent consistently better.

Stevens, Donavan, Self, Wright.. none of those guys are changing their current situations.

Hurley is the only realistic guy who’d I’d say to for sure call. He seems like a north eastern guy so he may not be interested either.

Yeah we might not get any more one seeds, miss the tournament, win 9 games, and lose to scrub teams if cal leaves....

Who meets that criteria? Brad Stevens, anyone else?

Typical response on this board. Lots of word twisting going on as usual. I never did say Cal isn’t replaceable. Im not gonna argue about this all night but instead I’m gonna go ahead and ask.. who without a shadow of a doubt can you say is better that we’d realistically have a chance at getting? And don’t say you don’t get paid do the searches. This is a much easier question in basketball than in football. So who’s out there?

He has taken a terrible Mcneese State and they are 24-3 with a win over LSU. This guy is gonna get a big job again and it’s gonna be soon. Wins everywhere he goes.

It won’t happen but if I had my choice our next head coach would be Billy Donovan. He would do awesome at a blue blood college program, imo. Now that he’s been coaching in the NBA I doubt he will leave unless he gets fired. I have no idea how he’s been doing with the Bulls.

Contrary to popular belief Kentucky has not had choice from established greats.

Rupp. High school coach
Hall. Assistant who failed as head coach
Sutton.. 7 years removed from final 4.
Pitino. 7 years had coach with only 2 ncaa tournament appearances
Tubby. Never past sweet sixteen.
Billy.
Calipari is the only slam dunk.

We'll have to hire based on vibes. Good coach who has done some stuff, but probably missing something on the resume. Good reputation but hasn't broken through yet.

I'm prepared for Pope, Drew, Smart, otzelberger level hire and hope for the best.

Ughhhh I hate that Hurley's name is so big around here. I hate UConn... Just too much of a can't beat em join em kind of feel. Would never want to cherry pick another blue blood coach and call them our own.

26-30 this year, 143-149 overall in Chicago. Not as good as he was with the Thunder. Chicago is still a long ways off from being a contender for the NBA Championship.

If that person is the best candidate and leaves one blue blood for UK, I think it's more of a mark of prestige. I don't see it as a bad thing at all.

Oh I agree. I don’t know much about him. He seems like a good coach but I just don’t think I’d be crazy about his personality. I worded that wrong. I just meant he’d likely be worthy due to his coaching, not necessarily the person. I wouldn’t want him either.
