Agree. I think he took too much heat for some things in the past but man, ever since COVID and him turning into grandpa Cal and growing a beard he has just fallen apart.
It's not talked about. But you have to wonder.

2015: He loses a 38-0 team to the refs and his own choking
2017: He rebuilt a fresh team that looks national title bound. He gets jobbed by the refs
2019: He rebuilds a fresh team that is looking red hot coming into March. He gets jobbed by the refs.

Thats 3 painful losses in only 4-5 years. You have to wonder if Cal had a moment like so many of us did after all that. ''It's just not worth it to be so invested in titles''. And he shifted gears to helping ''these kids'' and achieve their dreams. If the titles come, cool, if not, he doesn't care. Idk, I'm just spitballing but it makes some sense in my head. Espcially after that Joel Justus article in the offseason.

I never listen but definitely tuning in tonight, we need our voices heard. Also, this site is moving at a snails pace
KSR crew are a joke...

Matt's famous line "No other coach but Cal"....it's absurd to feel this way to after 9-16.

Rupp will be empty...and so will Matt's show. People are mad...but when the main UK radio is a butt kiss fest and acts like fans are nuts why they want him replaced.

Guys Cal lost to another BFF so it doesn't count. Gee wilikers those guys played a great game lol.
I laugh so I don't cry!

Can we please change our pick n roll defensive strategy?!?!? 7 footers DO NOT need to extend beyond one step past the free throw line. You can still close out to contest a shot and show yourself on penetration.

Can you link that? I don't know that I ever read it.

He definitely isn't the same and his edge is gone.

The best thing (don't laugh) that could happen is these players find lightning in a bottle and carry us to a FF. Cal feels a sense or relief and just decides it is time to stop.

If it doesn't go like this it will get so ugly here and it will be a ****** way to send him off eventually. That will be awful considering what he did here for the first 10 years.

THIS.. is what people aren't talking about enough.

Jobbed in 2016 on the Hump spike bll which cost us a seed.
Jobbed in 2021 or whatever on that awful LSU goaltend call.
The 2011 and 2014 Uconn games..
I could go on for a while.

We have been so absolutely screwed on officiating that it cant just be random. We didn't just flip 25 tails in a row...

It's funny, A lot of people here mention that the refs hate Cal.. but why is that Cal's problem? Go after the officiating. Call the games correctly.

I hate to bring this to politics.. but there's a lot of fellow repubs here who post on the Politics forum here. So I'll ask it this way.. Why do we blame the government for stealing the election from Trump (allegedly) because they hate him, but we blame Cal when the NCAA steals games from him, because they dislike Cal?

Wow....Matt Jones now is saying if the season goes as it appears (6-8 seed...and out in first weekend)...you can't do another season of Cal as coach.

Amazing it only takes 4 years to come to the obvious (and acting like a know it all prick to so many fans)

the point is - Cal's relationship with refs puts the program at a disadvantage. Its not Cal's problem. Its UK's problem

We have all been saying it.

Now the rich people have to pony up. Pay him his 33 million and get rid of him.

Matt is actually more on point than I thought he'd be.

Saying bad March and it should be over.

Says fans don't deserve the last 4 years
That’s about as close as we will hear “Fire Cal” from a media member until the end of this season.

Yeah we will lose some players when we make a change. But it’s time.

You're right and you're not.

On one hand, it isn't Cal's fault. It's the refs fault. We should blame the refs.

On the flip side, it doesn't actually matter who we blame. If they're biased against him and try to hurt him in games with bad calls--that affect us negatively. And I used to think--you know what, we're gonna win in spite of that.

And if that was the ONLY issue, I'd say fu#k 'em. But it's not. He's not a very good in game coach. He's had a miserable 4 years.

I'd love to start over, and not have a coach that the refs hate and try to sabotage.

With the transfer portal. Not even sure losing players is that big of a deal. no way Cal deserves another game, much less another season.
I know. I’m just saying. That was the reason we didn’t really jump last year. This was supposed to be THE class.

Screw it.

But for my example, why is it not Trumps fault that people tried to hold him down?

This kind of goes back to poorly executed plays. Don't blame Cal because Shep tried for a lob (which Cal never would have called up), blame the player. Don't blame Cal because the NCAA has an axe to grind, blame people like Mark Emmert. There are forces that are actually COMMITTING the misstep.. we have to aim our sights at them as well.

And what IF this isn't just about Cal, but is also about the NCAA helping programs like Duke and UNC by keeping UK at bay? That's going to be a problem for the next coach.

I was as big a Cal fan as anyone... It's easy for me to see (as a high school baseball coach) that his drive and passion for the position is not what it once was.. Maybe it was the contract, Maybe its his age... Maybe he's just tired.

He has accomplished enough. Time to find someone with the energy and love for the program that it deserves.

Yeah, I mean that may be. At some point, we DO need someone in there who I guess has a good rapport with the refs.

It's just sad that's what it has to come to.

And honestly, Hurley seems to be a guy who is going to wear out his welcome with refs. He's one of the bigger on-ref guys out there. That's going to be a problem at some point. Still want him though,

Even our former players are starting to dissent.

How do we know that 1. Ulis was even shaking his head at the play and 2. that the play was a lob?

I refuse to believe that the play drawn up was a lob.. I'll be happy to be proven wrong, but I think the play was more to "Get it to a big for a high percentage shot".. coaches don't draw up "lobs" lol. Not even someone like Cal.

I don't even know who fully supports Cal at this point, aside from some trolls.

It's a spectrum from people who hated him when he was hired, to people like me who don't think he's to blame for everything.. but still see he has lost his touch and needs to go.

Like, he's certainly not doing a good job. I don't know how anyone can say he is.
I think there are people who try to be fair and measured in their criticism. But, with one exception, I don’t think anybody would say he’s doing a good job right now.

Matt continually brings up that we will never fire CCC due to the lifetime contract and that we can’t afford it. He says it’s over and over again and I bet he will say it tonight at least two times.
Probably because it's true. If it ever happens I'll eat crow but there aren't even the slightest signs of rumblings because he is untouchable with that contract.

Bingo. Been screaming this from the mountain tops since 2017 and was laughed at and ridiculed. What hurts the most is Cal literally told us he was doing this “it’s about them now” (after the 2012 title). He’s never lied to us.

Players First. That’s his promise. Wins be damned, he’s going to “help these kids”. He justifies the losses and the let-downs in his own mind with believing he’s contributing to a higher calling. It’s okay with him because he’ll always be able to say he never sacrificed the career or future of a kid for what he deems as pointless/merit-less wins and championships.

Of course he’s just like everyone else of his ilk, he got his (a title and tons of money) so now he’s okay with it going to crap as long as he accomplishes his players first goals. Before he had his title and money he would have slit throats to get ahead.

We need a coach ready to slit throats. A guy hungry to make a legacy of winning titles, not philanthropy.
Yep. That 2nd paragraph is what i've been thinking for a while. Titles, wins, final fours? That's all selfish blubber. The real goal is helping these kids.

I've said it before but Cal gets more than 1 year salary to walk out the door and Barnhart needs to be with him
I agree. They’d negotiate with him and get some concession. But I’m just saying, even if UK had to pay it all, they can fire him.
