Dan Hurley will not be the next coach at Kentucky, nor will he ever be the next coach. He isn’t leaving UConn, we as a forum need to move on from this pipe dream.
He's my 1 and 1a choice. I wanted him last year before he even won a title and was ridiculed by a bunch of posters.
He's one of those that thinks we couldn't possibly get anyone better to replace Cow.
He just won a national championship, and are the clear favorites to win another one. UConn gives a **** about basketball. He ain’t leaving the situation he is in
Boyd, I have been on here constantly saying I am ready to move on from cal. I am just realistic about who Kentucky can get. Why in the world would Dan Hurley leave a place he just won a title at and may win an other one this year. Some of you all just don’t have realistic expectations for who Kentucky can get
Don’t count on it. He’s like the new Rupp Rafter 2.0 version of Billy Donovan. For literal decades, folks here would not stop pining for that guy. Hell, some still do despite his multiple prior rejections.

We are not getting Hurley. At this moment in time, and this is sad to say, UK is a lateral move at best for Hurley. And I really hate to say it, but it might actually be a step down. UConn is the hottest program in the country over the past 20+ years, really. Five titles since 1999. Three since 2011. Why would he leave? It’s not like UConn wouldn’t match any offer we made.

He just signed a 6 year deal for 33 million a little over 5 million a season. If KY were to offer 10 million a season he would be stupid not to take it. UCONN can’t match that and Kentucky is a sleeping giant just waiting to come out of hibernation.
It's no slam dunk he would take the Kentucky job. But to say that coaching at a school with a small fanbase and just over half the salary he would be offered here is so obviously better is also a laughable take. So I agree with you there would certainly be some consideration there.
Did you learn nothing from the way Cal got his insane 10-year-extension in 2019 because UCLA pursued him?
if we went after Hurley like that, I’m pretty sure UConn would immediately counter with its own offer of a comparable re-negotiated new deal. And then he’d still end up staying at UConn ..but now as a much richer man thanks to UK.
Just like Cal used the UCLA interest to squeeze the “lifetime” deal out of us.
I had read that they are beginning to shrink the deficit, but UCONN has an athletic department that has been operating at a sizable deficit for years. As in 50 million ish dollars I believe. It's not really as simple as paying out an extra 4-5 million a year for their bball coach.
You never know man, offer him an insane deal he would. Some coaches want that UK, Duke, UNC type prestiege. Maybe he thinks, “what if I went to Kentucky and went on a tear?” He would be a select group to win titles at 2 schools. Maybe he wants the challenge. Doubling his salary would make anyone think.
I agree, but you make him say no just like you do Brad Stevens.
I know this, when the time comes you make them tell you no. See if its easy to turn down 10 mil.
If he hadn’t just won a national title maybe, but he proved he can win there, and he has a really good chance to win another. I don’t see him leaving uconn
This argument works well at most schools, but not so much at UConn.
UConn has won FIVE times more titles than UK over the last quarter century, and they’ve won the same number during just that recent period that Duke has in its ENTIRE history (and only one fewer than UNC).
UConn has built up a rather heaping large helping of basketball “prestige” itself (especially to younger people who can only remember all the UConn titles). Not sure that distinction still means what it once did.

These Coaches want to be the highest paid in their profession they have egos and most think they are the best and want compensated for it. Ky would double his current salary in a place that when you win and win big you are King of the Bluegrass and a GOD. To say he would or wouldn’t take the job is anyone’s guess and only he knows the answer but I’m betting he would take the call and listen.
UCOnn would let him go I don’t think they have the money to pay him. He would have to really love it there and idk if I’m sold on that especially with all the conference realignment
I understand that but they still aren’t regarded nationally or historically on the same level for whatever reason.
Odds are he won’t but UK is one of about 3 jobs outside a pro offer that would tempt him IMO.
Would be great to see him at UK he is a very good coach.

I guess our 2 leading candidates would be Scott Drew and Dan Hurley. Both have won Natty's. I won't be surprised if neither is the next coach here. There is a reason coaches don't leave after bringing in the Hardware. To answer the question, I wouldn't be bothered so much if Danny not Bobby Hurley was our next coach.

I gave this question some thought, and believe the answer is that there has NEVER been an example a coach with a title jumping to another school when he was still at his peak and thriving.
There have been three who've jumped to the NBA (Donovan, Pitino, Brown). And there are some that were older coaches who much later coached elsewhere after their standing had fallen (Knight, Tarkanian, Fisher, Sloan, Tubby, Massimino).
But for a title coach still in his prime and doing great to jump to another school? Nope, that just does not happen. Or at least never has.

Has anyone who says Hurley won't leave UCONN actually done any research on the guy? If not then you are just guessing like everyone else. And Hurley is not a lateral move to Cal. That is just nonsense.

Just a guess but as most of us know, football pays the bills. UConn is an independent in football so they don't get a conference payout that a P4 school like UK does in the SEC. And nobody cares about UConn football so they probably can't pay the bills for the other sports at their school like UK football can. So they may not be able to come close to matching what we can pay. That's probably our only hope is to double his salary because UConn is a modern day blueblood in the eyes of young people.
Nope Brad Stevens by 8 miles. Hurley probably wouldn't come but it's nowhere near as definite as the Stevens one.
No. He would not be an improvement as coach. He couldn't handle the other aspects of the UK coaching job. He's just the latest flash in the pan coach. Just look at the other flash in the pan coaches the CHC coveted over the last few years. Most have fallen off the map. Hurley will too.

Yep. Jay Wright out of retirement is more realistic….and that’s a no to slim chance as well
Actually, Jay Wright is a good example of a championship caliber coach that did not chase the money.
