Any accountants on here know why my state tax refund hasn't come back yet? I filed around April 10thish. I go to the tap site... Put in my information... And I get the " we've received your ****... Allow 90 days to process... We'll send you a letter if we need more **** " messege. I hot my FED back withing a few days. I've never has to wait this long before. I was going to use that few hundred on my European vacation next week... But I guess not now.

MS takes for damn ever to issue refunds. You should have it by now though. I would call them.

Because its the state of MS. There really are a bunch of incompetent people working at DOR. I have clients experience this all the time. Hell, once I wrote the state a check April 15 and it wasn't cashed until July. My suspicion is that much of it has to do with June 30 being the end of the budget year.

We filed our return in late January and, as of last week, still didn't have our refund. When we called, they said that they were mailing us an "Identity Verification" letter that we would need to complete and return with two forms of ID so that our refund could be processed. According to them, once they get the letter back your refund will be issued within 48 hours.

I'm about to pay my 2nd quarter taxes so let me know what the state owes you and I will just mail you a check instead. We can cut out the middle man that way.

Yes, this is common.

Almost all states are really stepping up their identify verification. If you don't provide you drivers license info, your refund will definitely be delayed.

I filed with TurboTax the day before tax day (the 18th this year I think). Supposedly we owed MS taxes, so we paid it, but a few weeks ago, they sent back our payment and said we had no liability. We both had PINs, so our identity was already verified.

I have a small state tax refund coming. I filed electronically in March and not long after that I received a letter to go to the DOR site and verify my identify. Did that and haven't heard a word. I called the DOR Customer Service line and chose the option to speak with a human. After confirming that I verified my identity on the DOR site and verifying my name, SS#, mailing address, etc., the lady said my refund would be processed and should have it direct deposited in ~7 days. My theory is they are hold all refunds as long as they possibly can to early interest on "free money". As soon as you call and request your refund, they then conveniently "process and release" you money. So, give them a call.

Back in like 1983, I was in the military and due a refund from Mississippi. Instead, I got a letter saying that the state didn't have the $$ to send my refund but would send out a check when they received more tax receipts.

I became a Texas resident shortly after receiving that letter.

with the huge surplus of cash they reportedly received this year, maybe they spent it on hookers and blow...

Good news... The advice to call was the key to victory today!
Basically, the lady told me that my return numbers were messed up due to my wifes employer... She put me on a short hold... manually fixed the numbers.. Botta bing batta boom, should be getting processed in the next few days. Stranger still, I was expecting $650ish back... Now im getting $830.

So, why didnt I call sooner you may be asking??? Well, ive been visiting the tap website to check on the status with zero success. There is a number on there, but it litterally says call the automated line (which gives you the exact same info as the tap site) and dont bother calling a person because they wont know **** about ****. So, I never called the live person. Goes to show you, I should have called that number a month ago.

Thanks to everyone for letting me vent and the advice.

I didn't read the whole thread but when did you do it and did you do it yourself like online? I think they've had a rash of ppl trying to get illegal refunds. I did my sisters in mid February and a month later they still hadn't gotten theirs. Then they sent a form asking them to go to the state's website asking them to take a quiz on their 2015 return so they could verify the identity. About 3 weeks later they got it. I've did like 20 returns using taxslayer and 3 had to do that. And I've done probably 50 each year for the last 7-8 years and never had that happen. Your question may have already been answered but I didn't have time to read the whole thread
