I heard a couple things at the games this weekend that have me confused, and I apologize if it's been discussed on the board previously and I missed it. My first question is that I heard that the Left Field Lofts were not going to be built at all, but I noticed that they are still on the master plan that is on the Bulldog Club's website. Also, I heard that although the cost of the outfield lots are increasing from around $250 a year to $2,000 that there isn't going to be any dry storage and the people are going to have to bring everything in and out ever single game. That doesn't make any sense to me at all if the rate is going to increase that much but yet the lot holders are going to have that much of a greater burden each game. I always try to not put much stock into hearsay without asking someone that might actually know. Does anyone know if these two things are correct?

Don't think the Lofts have been scrapped, but they are more of a Phase II part of the project. Could come in down the line but don't expect them in 2019.
Storage space has not been scrapped. There is a concern that it will be reduced for some, but we have not cut out storage space altogether.

I think the Lofts were stalled under Stricklin. Since Cohen took over, I think they have new life. I have no idea on a time frame but Cannizzaro mentioned them in a post game recently. I'm guessing it's sooner than later (3-5 years).
I don't think the University knows the answer to the storage question right now. If they do, they certainly have not conveyed it to future LFL members. The Fire Department didn't like the idea of housing propane bottles in the small confined spaces. I assume they're working through that now.

Hopefully, they will do the right thing and shutter the baseball hobby thing. Its pretty clear we cannot field a team.
Maybe I'm way off here, but why is everyone saying new ball park. It's not. Same place, just redone. The way people talk it's like we're flattening everything and building somewhere else. Are we renaming it or something?
As far as fan space, it will be 98% new.
As for the lofts, the plans show the footprint for the lofts and label it as future construction. Not sure how much that it worth, though.

I would like to know the answer to that. I believe when the Dement family donated money to the program that helped with improvements to the stadium, their name was placed on the stadium. However, since that stadium no longer exists, I see no reason why their name belongs on the new stadium. It is somewhat like the seats that were purchased when the stadium was built. They went with the old stadium, but previous seat holders are having to purchase seats in the new stadium. As for Polk, I would put a small plaque with his name and the names of all former coaches on it. The way he behaved when Cohen was hired as baseball coach, he deserves no other mention in the new stadium. He always thought he was bigger than the program. I am glad he found out differently.
My question for the fire marshall would be how do you want them stored? To me- and I'm no fire marshall- containing something flammable somewhere confined that I'm assuming would be in the shade would be ideal.
Has anyone seen anything regarding the seating capacity in the grandstand area? After looking at the renderings, it doesn't look like there will be any more chairbacks than we have now.
I don't agree with the Polk part. We don't need to stoop to his level. He's why we are able to have any of this. He built this program.
The fans built this program. There's no doubt that Polk was the right man at the right place and the right time back in 1975, but we had several SEC titles, regularly hosted district playoffs (before the regional format) and had a CWS appearance before he ever came to MSU. He did a lot of good, but his apathy for much of the 90s and in the 00s really set us back a lot, and his actions when we hired Cohen are unforgivable. I would have taken his name off the stadium then.

I do think there will be more chairbacks given the addition of another level and no reduction (hopefully an increase) in footprint. How many are club level one can't easily tell from the master plan.
I'm also curious to see what high-demand weekends look like now. Will the vast majority of the chairback spillover now be on the berms?

Blame Templeton. Polk was just doing what he thought was right. The recruiting aspect of the game evolved and passed him by, which happens to a lot of coaches. His brain and X/O ability was always there.

He's not off the hook at all. But when my hierarchy of MSU baseball hate is ranked, LT is number 1. Polk is 2. Honestly I don't hate either of them, both did what they thought was right. They were just both wrong.
I begrudgingly agree. Even as much as I didn't want him back for Polk II, and even as much as I don't really care for him personally and have some bitterness towards him for the way he handled the coaching change at the end of his tenure, the fact remains he did accomplish a lot during his career at MSU. To have his name on the stadium and then take it off with the new stadium seems somewhat petty and would maybe go under the category of cutting your nose off to spite your face.
DWS press box was named after Bob Hartley so I could see something like that happening in the future.
