I don't believe he had anything to do w/all this, but it has taken its toll on him...you can see it. And I really think he doesn't want Ole Miss to be dragged through any more than he can stop from happening.

The quote above is from some tool on Nafoom.

Tough spot for the Rebs. Do you prefer your coach to be a dumbass or a liar? The guy quoted above obviously prefers dumbass.

If Hugh is the masterful recruiter that all our rebel friends say he is then he knew what was going on. Hell, he supposedly had built such a relationship with Chris Jones that they continued to text for years after Chris became a bulldog. If he had that same relationship with Tunsil, Treadwell, Nkemdiche, etc. then he definitely knew what was going on.

If he didn't know what was going on, then he is a fool.

Either way, how do you argue that you are not accountable? This is just football. If you can't be a man and admit your faults when it comes to recruiting how can anyone trust you with things that really matter?

We all know people that bad-mouth organized religion. Hugh is just one example of why they feel that way. Hypocrisy thy name is Hugh.

You missed the part where this really happened because he was spending too

much time preaching the good word and lost his focus a little. A man shouldn't be faulted for that*.

how can assistant coaches and associate athletic directors be directly implicated without knowledge from the head coach and athletic director?

bo made a good point that assistant coaches are there to do what they are told and directed to do. their job is to execute plans that they are given.

I think you will start seeing more of this getting floated publicly from within the ******** central command. Setting up the eventual departure "... for the good of the school." The dam is starting to fissure.

I believe that Hugh is an average Coach, a top notch "talker" of Christianity but perhaps not the best at "practicing" Christianity, he loves Bubble Screens but hates 3rd & 1 situations, and he will not PERSONALLY cheat but he has no problem what so ever letting his Assistant Coaches & Boosters cheat.

I think he's a dumbass that probably SUSPECTED people were cheating but sort of hoped it would go away on its own. He may have even rationalized the boosters in his mind, like many others have done, by telling himself that the players probably should get paid a little bit for the profits they create. I'm not sure what to think about coaching involvement by Farrar and others.

Hypocritical Liar. Just a matter of days before he finds camera so that he can shed tears and proclaim that he doesn't know why people want to drag his good name through the mud. "Mistakes were made", but I am to good of a person to cheat.

I'd bet the south farm that Hugh is more worried about his reputation than UM's rep.

Yep. If he really cared about OM, he could step down "for the good of the kids and the program." Wouldn't have to admit anything, just do it as a way to clean the slate. He doesn't appear to be contemplating that move. In fact, I kind of think the university hasn't fired him yet because they are afraid he'll sue them (see Brewer, B.)

He's a 17'n liar. Are you going to tell me that everyone that knows anything about college football, including him, starts getting 5 star players coming to Mississippi without some sort of payments and he don't know whats going on? Bovine scatology.

So you don't think he intentionally cheated?

Not only did Freeze and ole miss get five star players but they were getting players ranked #1 in the country at their prospective position. Patterson was the #1 high school qb in the country. Nkemdiche was the #1 player in all of the country when he was recruited and wasn't Tunsil the #1 OL in the country too? They didn't play it safe with the cheating other schools do. They cashed in all their chips. Wasn't hard at all seeing this coming.

This is what he should do. If he wants to leave with even a shred of integrity he needs to step down ASAP. This is the only way he can continue to claim innocence.

Sticking around and fighting will only lead to more crap being stirred up and thrown around. He has young children and they are hearing all this mess. He should step down and get the hell out of here.

If I've said it once I've said it a dozen times, Hugh was the knowing and willing participant to be the perfect front for the "network". Hugh was involved with the inter-workings of the network when he was a off-field coach working closely with David Sanders under Orgeron. He can play "the poor me, little innocent Christ loving, bible thumping hypocrite all he wants to. Going back and doing a little research doesn't back his story. He was knee-deep in the workings of "networks operations" before he went on the field. Thouy had groomed him and he knew how things worked. I had a coach who worked camps and knew that staff really good and he told me Freeze was knee deep in the workings of "the network". Freeze is nothing more then a con artist IMO. There were others present when this was told on Freeze after all the ncaa stuff and investigation became public. The guy (coach) telling us this was hoping the ncaa didn't interview him.

I've been wondering this too, and I think it's a bit of both. I think Freeze is a decent game planner and manager, so his hiring doesn't look as insane in hindsight, but an SEC team hired a coach with barely 2 years of real college coaching experience. There is just no way he understood the complexity of a major college football program. The infractions for arranging transportation and lodging for recruits and families, failing to get Wilkins eligible, burning Patterson's redshirt, literally everything around Tunsil (agents, step-dad, draft night), etc. These all could be Hugh just not understanding how to properly manage his department.

But then you remember how Hugh got to Ole Miss; his "reward" for getting Oher to Oxford. And then the 2013 signing class that miraculously took a chance on a 2 win school with an unknown head coach. And then Hugh telling recruits that the current staff wasn't going to be implicated in the NCAA probe days before their first NOA response that DID include the current staff.

He may believe his own legend that he got to Ole Miss on his own merits and discovered he's one of the best recruiters in the country, but I think Hugh knew exactly what was going on and hoped plausible deniability with a sprinkling of piety would keep it all together for as long as possible.

Hugh was setup by the NCAA to come out of this looking like an idiot. They have a former assistant coach on record saying they took their recruiting direction from the top. His denial is what will bring him down. Because the NCAA has indisputable proof. And he'll look like a complete moron when it all shakes out. So to answer. He will look like a liar and a dubmass

If Mark Richt was the typical fundamental Christian of college football, then Hugh Freeze is a prosperity gospel minister.

That seems plausible...right up until you realize that every coach has to take and pass an NCAA rules test every year. A test that outlines all the things you just mentioned. There is no "not knowing" excuse.

At best he chose to tiptoe around the smoke plumes

Can't pretend not to see the smoke and feign innocence. Ultimately I think Bjork is the most crooked member of UM's athletic staff. This guy has presided over an absolute disdain for ethics.

Here is what I would expect from a true Christian who is also a college football coach.

You sit your assistants down and explain to them that integrity is more important than winning.

We are going to do things the right way. If that means we have to coach up 3 star athletes so be it.

We are going to play the game to win, but if we lose there is always a blessing from that.

If we look up at the end of the season and we gave our best and we are 5-7, then I will stand up for us and say, if you want to win at all costs, then I am not your man.

A true Christian would not cheat, and would not have players on his team that were signed by cheating. He would not only clean house of his staff who cheated, but also the boosters, and yes, even the players.

So, yes, Hugh not only knew what was going on, he was a willing participant. He should leave the profession, confess his sins, and find another line of work.**

Liar and probably a dumbass

Archie assembled the staff. Hugh was taught how to "network", and just played his role he was assigned. Early on he may have thought his prosperity gospel/positive outlook was winning recruits. Which made him even more of a dumbass down the road. Causing his now infamous "compliance" tweet.
Whether he knew or didn't know, the "network" used all these guys, and I have been laughing for two years now.

Hes made enough money to retire today, either way......

Reaping what you sow isn't going to fare too well for him though.

The ncaa didn't set Hugh up, he wanted to be the man and he agreed to do whatever the "network" wanted to do. He sold his soul for the head coaching job at OM knowing what was going on. He had already been their under Orgeron. Why do you think Archie and Thouy hired Freeze with no more experience than he had? He knew exactly wha5t he was doing and agreed to do it!!!!
