OT: The Last Jedi

Episode 8 finally has a title.

I like it. Rian Johnson is a good choice of director for what will probably be a darker movie.

Can't wait for December to get here.

I thought Rogue One was better than Force Awakens. A little slow at first but pretty good. Force Awakens was A New Hope rehashed.

Yea waayyyy too many similarities. But, still was a great movie that I enjoyed and definitely look forward to the last Jedi.

Liked Rogue One better after a second viewing, but it still isn't as good as TFA to me.

There are just a few too many similarities between TFA and ANH, but I love that movie. Did an awesome job of setting up a new trilogy, established a very intriguing villain, very likable new protagonists, and a ton of new directions to go with these next two movies. A lot of depends on these next two movies, though. They left several lingering questions where the answers will either make TFA look even better or poke holes in the movie.

Pretty much my view. I don't know why they couldn't have gotten a little more creative. Bigger Death Star, unsuspecting young person with ties to the Jedi gets discovered, goes to train with Jedi in hiding, etc. there are some differences but still too similar. overall the awesomeness overcame that imo. Can't wait to find out snokes origin and what's next for that aspect.

Jedi is singular and plural...so who knows. Lots of questions to be answered.

I agree with this. Unless Fin ends up strong in the force there is no way he would last 5 seconds. TFA gave me more questions than anything. I liked Rogue One but it wasn't great.

Rogue One was >> than TFA. I did have a lot of questions like this after watching TFA, but watching it a second time they actually did explain it a little. Kylo Ren was shot with Chewy's weapon. They made a big deal about how powerful Chewy's weapon was. Kylo was having to use the force to sustain himself, thus Quinn wasn't completely out matched during their battle.

I liked both movies, but I did read a TFA review that I thought was funny as hell. It said something like "We all thought that Disney bought the Star Wars franchise, but it turns out that George Lucas sold it to Xerox so they could make an exact copy for the first movie".

Liked both. Not a contest for me.

TFA has grown better with later watchings and letting the fanboy in me get out of the way. I found much more than the easter eggs that could lead to good plot lines in the next installment. My favorite is the ease Finn had in using the lightsaber and the raw ability of Rey.

Cannot wait to see Benicio Del Toro in Vol. 8 as the big bad.

Kylo couldn't have killed all of them. Just like ***** ***(₽) Anakin couldn't.

₽: I blame Lucas & Hayden for my take here. Granted, maybe they did things to perfection given my strong "hatred" towards him in the prequels.

You can thank the Fanboys for that. After the prequels got ripped apart to shreds by them Disney wasn't going to take too many risks outside of killing Han Solo which I think a lot of the Fanboys wanted not to mention Harrison Ford. So even that wasn't that risky. That's why TFA is so much of a rehash- which I enjoyed nonetheless- and also why Rogue One starts out so slowly. It's pretty obvious to me that Disney ordered them to leave no plot holes open and thus what you get is a slow start because every new character has to be introduced. It's like the first half half of the movie is- "This Todd4State. He's from the planet Mississippi. He joined the Rebel Alliance because the Empire killed his family". But once you get through that, I thought Rogue One had one of if not arguably the best final battle sequences in all of the Star Wars movies and that redeemed it for me.

Maybe they will take more risks now that they are on the Fanboys good side for the most part and I'm pretty optimistic about the Han Solo movie. I'm liking what I hear about it so far. I do hope that they do not do a Boba Fett Movie. That would be the most Fanboy thing ever. I can't see how it would be any good. Who would be the antagonist? I mean, he a bounty hunter and his backstory is covered in Attack of the Clones. He can't kill Mace Windu for killing his father since Palpatine killed Windu with an assist from Vader. I'm expecting Fett to be the antagonist in the Solo movie because that makes a lot of sense and probably would satisfy the Fanboys.

That said, I am curious to see what the third anthology film will be about which I suppose they will release during Star Wars Celebration in April.

My guess is that Kylo Ren killed them all or got them to all turn to the Dark Side and then Luke went into exile like Yoda and Obi-Wan did until the right time came along.

The question I have about the Rule of Two is we all know that Darth Sidious/Palpatine had Darth Maul as his apprentice in the Phantom Menace but technically he didn't kill Darth Plageius until Attack of the Clones based on the timeline. So, really there were three Sith at one time.

Technically the Sith don't exist anymore by Episode seven because Snoke isn't a Sith and Kylo Ren is still training to be one. Maybe Luke dies at some point and then Rey and Kylo Ren form their own new sects of the Jedi and Sith or something similar but maybe a little different.

Depends on your age. Rogue One was a throwback to those of us that remember seeing the original Episode IV in theatres as kids. If your first introduction to Star Wars was Episode I then Rogue One probably didn't hold your interest.

He might learn that he has to play both sides to bring balance to the Force in Episode 8. I don't think he will totally turn to the Dark Side. I bet he ends up having to kill Kylo Ren or Kylo Ren will kill Luke and then Rey will be forced to kill Kylo Ren who is likely related to her in some way. I would like to see Luke live and fulfill the prophesy. And I hope this isn't insensitive but Leia will probably die somehow as well. Or they'll just make a CGI representation of her I guess.

Add me to the list of not wanting a Boba Fett movie. If you are going to do a stand alone make it about Obi Wan prior to EP 1.

I really liked Rogue One. Loved how it ended where the original 1977 Star Wars movie began. Also, it showed how evil and powerful Vader was. The battle scene at the end of the movie was so much better than the Jedi duels of episodes 4, 5, and 6 but not insanely over the top like the ones in the prequels.

Agreed. That scene at the end where Darth Vader turns on his light saber in the dark and the rebels are trying to get the door open sent shivers down my spine. He was terrifying.

Not trying to argue with you you here, but how did you come to understand that Darth Plagueis died in the AOTC timeline? I thought it was an "old Sith legend."

the Brazilian release included a translation that was both singular and male, until too many people commented on it and it was taken down. Take from that what you will.
