Good luck with getting this passed...

Move for addendum:

This referendum only applies to investigations by the NCAA of public member institutions in the state of Mississippi where the following apply:

- The member institution did not cheat like criminals
- The member institution did not continue to brazenly cheat while under active investigation
- The coach of the member institution did not openly challenge rivals to report known issues
- The administrative staff did not openly lie to the public, and to prospective student athletes, about the status of the investigation
- Former student athletes of the member institution did not incriminate the coaching staff in a very public, embarrassing way

Then I could get behind it. But even then, it's not enforcable, since all member institutions agree to the rules beforehand.

They can spin all they want, but Ole Miss deserves everything they are getting.

So... the bears think the MS Legislature should impose guidelines, conditions and fines against a non-profit organization that is investigating members who are there on a voluntary basis?

Pardon my ignorance, but doesn't every school participating in athletics have to sign a charter agreeing to NCAA codes? How does State law govern an independent nationwide entity? Seems like tail-wagging-the-dog **** here.

Surprise .. Surprise .. He played football at OM. Go figure! Sure am glad he is not my representative.

May need to edit my post. Didn't actually play for OM .. did get his photo taken in an OM uniform!

Footnote .. glad he ended up an OM fan!

2002:
Did not see action ... Went through his first spring football drills as Ole Miss ... Non-scholarship player.
2001: Non-scholarship player who did not see any action.
2000: Attended Mississippi State, but did not participate in sports. 1999: Was on football team at Mississippi College.

Please let this get out of committee (which I doubt) and on to the House floor

I would love to see him push this bill with a straight face, and then hear the debate on it.

I enjoy the fact that he lists First Baptist Church prior to Economic Development Foundatin, BAR Assn, and Rotary Club on his bio page as a state representative. I bet he also thinks Ole Miss are the two most important words on his resume.

So MS has had to amend budget projections at least twice and this BS is what an elected representative is focused on? Probably shouldn't blame this guy directly. I'm sure he has received several calls from the OM people that paid for his campaign.

Didn't those ****-birds work diligently to circumvent this with the first NOA?[/FONT]

This will never make it out of committee. It would be very entertaining if it did though, the House has a very high State alum presence. With that said, this is unbelievable...

Everyone should write him a polite email informing him of your expectation that elected representatives make better use of our taxpayer time.

Membership in the NCAA is voluntary. You either abide by their rules or you are kicked out. If the legislature decides to pass this then we can say goodbye to any possibility of championships in ANY sport. A new NAIA will be the only opportunity. How would the Bears pay for their pretty new Pavillion and the metal bleachers at Vaught-Hemingway??

Which is kinda interesting, because most people think the Legislature is OM-dominated, which is not true at all. As of 2015, State and USM both had more grads on High Street.

It really is embarrassing but yet I've seen bear fans filled with pride post a link to the story on facebook.

My only angst over this is that it makes the entire State look bad. The legislature needs to slap this clown down.

Now lets pretend this had actually been in existance for 5 years

Wouldn't OM be on their 3rd investigation?

First would be the investigation for academic fraud that had a couple of Level 1 allegations.

Second investigation would be the 11 Level 1 allegations that included 4 level 1's of which were improper benefits from boosters and 7 level 1's for "other misconduct or unethical conduct chargers." And I got these numbers looking at the "infograph" Bjork put out.

And now they'd be well into the 3rd investigation for the draft night fiasco and whatever else this Amended NOA will include.

The way OM cheats, I'm not so sure they would really want something like this in effect. They'd already be on probation on 2 separate occasions, plus their star player admitting to taking money from a coach on national tv.

17 it, I like this bill.
