This really is the worst thing to ever happen to college basketball in my opinion.

I just read, Seth Towns, no relation to KAT, is in the transfer portal. He's transferring to his 3rd school and will be in his 8th collegiate season. He missed a bunch of time because of injury.

There has to be some sort of limit to that and NIL. The pendulum has swung WAAAYY too far in the other direction toward the players after being too far in the NCAA’s direction for the longest time.

1. Freshman being eligible to play varsity basketball
2. High school players no longer eligible for the draft
3. Transfer portal with immediate eligibility
4. NIL

Two of those happened at basically the same time created pretty much total chaos.

Exactly. Logically, you'd think a sport should space its most monumental changes ever far apart so that the sport has a chance to adapt and figure out how to deal with it. But instead college sports decided to do em at the same time ...sending college football and basketball in to free for all wild west anarchy.

And, instead of trying to regain control over the mayhem, the NCAA's response increasingly seems to basically just be: "We give up, we're not even seriously trying anymore, just do whatever you want..."

It is not exhausting. What is exhausting is every day people here post about someone new in the portal and none of the top players are coming to Kentucky. The one player so far that might, I couldn't even find a top 50 rating despite him playing well in one final four game.

College students being able to: play for who they want; play with who they want; go to the academic program they want; or go to a school and socialize with who they want is not the worst thing to ever happen to college basketball.

You aren't wrong. It's a job for them and just like I was able to quit lowes to work at the campus library in undergrad, they too are allowed to change jobs mid college time.

I don't think jumping program to program is in the best interest of kids. There are benefits of staying and improving within a system... getting stronger and more.

You realize you are making the case for kids and not college basketball right? This has been absolutely a mess for college basketball please try and argue from that stand point how it hasn't been.. I'll wait.

Exactly, there are so many factors that we don't ever know about that go into why a kid may want or need to transfer. The students now having the ability to do that is great for them. I understand, as a fan, it makes things frustrating, but I hope we all keep in mind that they are people just like us.


I have 40 people under me at work, many of whom come to me with different gripes I listen to them, I try to better their situation, but in the end I always say " If you are not happy here, please go somewhere else. I do not want you working at a place that makes you miserable for many different reasons"

You’d have to be seriously mentally ill to spend all day every day crying about a coach of kids, making 3rd grade meme’s, etc. all because they aren’t dropping everything to make your couch time more comfortable. . Funny to watch though. BUT at least it’s better than stalking people and scouring the internet for two people that like a team and a player and deciding they are the same guy and then recklessly reporting it as fact. Now that is mentally sick by the very definition. I hope they call that guy’s business to try and get him fired and then get sued when they find out they are nothing but bumbling boobs chasing ghosts. Also, it seems Calipari says the exact same things to kids. He has supported every single player that wanted to leave the program for whatever reason. I'm sure he listens to them, says this is what we can do for you, but if its not in your best interests to stay here, than I will fully support the next move in you journey.


Its a sad and selfish thing when you put "college basketball" above the individuals quality of life.
I hope people don't get so self indulged that they care more about the sport than they do the individual.

The early 2000s was chaotic as well with all the high schoolers choosing a college and then going to the draft, leaving the school without what they thought would be their star players.

Absolutely. I was referring to non on-court rules and putting a team together. Those are absolutely the 2 biggest on court.

I think in a couple years the chaos settles somewhat, for 2 reasons. First, everyone only gets 1 free transfer. Off the bat, EVERYONE has a free transfer available. A few years in, a whole lot of players will already have used up their free transfer and there will be fewer people able to jump schools. Second, we still have the free covid year guys playing. There are simply more players out there for the same number of roster spots. Leads to more guys looking for a better place to go with more pt or other things they want. Once the covid year guys have all aged out, we're back to a more normal number of players available.

There will probably be 2-3 that are worth going after, it’s up to cal to actually go after them
