To be clear I'd bet money now Oscar leaves and Dickinson goes elsewhere. It's the UK curse of late.
Part of it is because we have a staff that doesn't seem to understand the intentions of their players' future plans until April and May every year. They should be getting a feel for their players throughout the season. Multiple times now, the staff has been caught off guard when it comes to end of the year transfers or exits: Juzang, Matthews, Sharpe, Livingston, etc.

Do they develop relationships with these kids throughout the year in order to assess where the player morale actually is?

The amount of offensive rebounds and defensive rebounds softens the blow tremendously on Oscar’s lack of pick and roll defense or lack of shot blocking. The amount of second chance points UK gets and lack of second chance points opponents get due to Oscar is as good as being a great on ball defender IMO.
Exactly, his otherworldly rebounding and strength to score in the paint overcomes any defensive warts he has IMO. He’s way more positive than negative.

The staff should lay out an NIL package similar to Oscars, and ask him to wait to make a decision until Oscar is clear. If he wants to come back then he’s free to choose whoever he wants. If Oscars leaves he has the deal in place and can commit.

Never heard even one player bad mouth Cal after leaving.

Anything away from the basket is.
If a player can get 20 and 15 with just mid range and layups then expanding to 3 isn’t something that’s going to drastic change how effective he is in college. His defense is by far what’s stopping him from leading this team further.

With Oscar back, I would feel better about the center position, but Cal has to change some things.

1) He needs to play Ugo more… much more

2) He has to get Oscar to be more aggressive at the rim on defense. Yes, try your best to not pick up fouls, but you can't let guys just lay the ball in and hope they miss.

Hopefully this rumor is true and Cal gets at least one more elite shooter too. This is assuming Reeves returns, if he doesn't, he needs to get 2 elite shooters.
He needs to play Ugo more and honestly not play Ware. Oscar, Ugo, and Bradshaw

I guess it comes down to what your definition of "bad mouthing" is. There's been a bunch of guys and their camps who said they didn't like the way they were used under Calipari.

Briscoe did.
Lamb did.
Gabriel did.
SKJ did.
Tyreke Evans did.
Hopkins did.
Matthews did.
Whitney did.

Dickinson named 3 schools he was taking visits to, and we weren't one of them. I think at this point we might want to consider the fact that with Ugo returning and Oscar and maybe .... he's picking someone else.

Let's NOT let this kid get us tied up in knots. I can live with a shot blocker or two in the middle and surround them with scorers if thats our fate. Cal knows the natives are restless. I have to believe he will turn the heat up and figure things out. He is pretty close to being backed in a corner and none of these kids came here to lose.

Its a pivotal year, we all know it.

maybe it is just me but I am not sold on Ugo being our starting center next season.
We miss on Tshiebwe or Dickinson, that might be the case.

And I have a hard time imagining Onyenso going from a rarely used third string Center to a starter in one season.

If Onyenso proves to be not quite ready for prime time, then we could be looking at a small ball lineup eventually with Dillingham, Wagner, Reeves/Sheppard, Edwards, and Bradshaw being the starters.

Of course, there’s always a chance a better option jumps into the portal later in the offseason.

A whole lot of sour grapes in that group. You'll have to remind me on Doron though.

If I'm UK I call him up tomorrow and say "we're moving on, appreciate all your hard work, let us know if we can do anything". And then you go after Dickinson or any other big who can rim protect and stuff the damn ball through the net without touching the floor first.
Super glad you are not UK

The first few games of the season, when Oscar was out, Onyenso looked better than Ware, significantly better. And that was with only 1 month of practices under his belt.
Ware then played more later on for brief minutes because, well that's Cal. I guess he trusted the JR more than the FR, despite the results.

Also, from FR to Soph year is when players see their biggest improvement (on average). And there have been C's who play very little for 1-2 years, then were 1st team all conference the next year. Will Purdue is an example.

But yeah, if a better option appears in the portal, we got to try him out.
But Bradshaw looks too soft to play much at the 5. I'd rather go with Onyenso or Collins there. If he could make FTs (which he can't), I'd rather play Ware at the 5 than Bradshaw.

His rebounding is what put him on the all defense team....the defensive rebound, which ends the defensive possession. It wasn't his ability to stay in front of his man or play help D that put him on the list
It’s amazing to me that people can watch the game and not see how horrible a defensive player he is. These are the people that know nothing about basketball

Bradshaw is very thin to play the 5 in the SEC. He will have to put on a lot of weight to handle SEC centers.

I see a lot of posts says "Oscar needs to..."
The truth is Oscar doesn't NEED to do anything if he doesn't want to. We might wish he would hurry up but, that's just us being fans. Apparently he's working on his schedule, not anyone elses.
TBH, I find it a bit ironic that a coach who constantly preaches "players first!" is being roped along by a player putting himself and his future first, taking all the time he wants to make his decision. It'd be hard for Calipari to publicly criticize Oscar for taking that slogan to heart now wouldn't it?

Being held hostage? I don't think the players or any of the coaching staff see it quite like you do. That's quite an extreme accusation. Nobody is being held "hostage". You need to go define that word. Just for everyone out there words have meanings and lots of you all throw out these words and you don't understand they have a defined meaning. The basketball program isn't being seized or held as security for the fulfillment of a certain condition. Oscar has every right to do what is best for him! Get over it.

Doing what is best for him?His choices are UK or overseas as the NBA isn't interested. What's hard about that?

You base that assumption on what's been reportedly put out there for public consumption but you aren't privy to every detail and it may be that he has some good workout for nba teams and someone takes a chance with him. He will never know that unless he tries so why knock him on that? At the end of the day I hope he is back at Kentucky and he probably will be but that doesn't mean I will think less of him for pursuing his dream. Nobody else should either.

So you’re saying the 14 SEC MENS HEAD COACHES who selected Oscar for the SEC ALL DEFENSIVE TEAM know nothing about basketball?
