That was just the first one. There have been many that’s been updated and release all have him going in a similar spot. But like you said, so much can happen that changes these. But that’s not the point

The point is Duke is getting guys like proctor and Flip and Mitchell to return. Highly talented and experienced guys. In todays world that’s unheard of. I’m not sure how they do their NIL, they are more of a national brand than a local brand, but whatever they’re doing it seems to be enough to get these type of guys to take that risk.
Most of us are excited. There were rumors Scheyer was going to change recruiting philosophy to go away from having such freshman laden teams (starting 5s). It’s been a long time since we have gotten these caliber of players to return. Many of us not only expected to lose some of the incoming freshman, we welcomed it. Guys like MgBaku were only going to be around for one year. Proctor, Mitchell and Flip have all proved they can play at a high level. I take that over most freshman any day. Now, if we can get Roach back, who would be a senior and get a big to replace Lively (praying for Holmes), then it’s a very exciting vision to not have or need one freshman in the starting lineup.

Proctor
Roach
Mitchell
Filipowski
Holmes

Off the bench:
McCain
Foster
Stewart
Young
TJ Power

Although, I would expect some more departures. Still that’s a talented but more importantly grown and a god mix of experience and young talent.

Yeah but you know how college basketball is, especially tournaments. Who seen all the upsets this year on top of FAU and SD state going to the final four? I sure didn't! Add to that, you never know hpow the incoming freshmen will actually play, plus injuries. All you can do is set your roster for what you think will work and then grind it out. Even as good as Uconn looked at the end, they went on what, a 6 game losing streak? It's a crap shoot!
For sure, both duke and Kentucky fans overreact, but on paper you guys are loaded and that’s not even adding roach who could come back. Kentucky roster situation isn’t great, reeves and dillingham nobody knows for sure if they are back, we need a center and more shooting

You don’t think McCain starts?

If Roach comes back? And we get Holmes? No. If Roach doesn’t come back, and no Holes and we start Flip at the 5 (doubtful) I still think Foster may start over McCain. That one is a toss up. Still lots left to shake out.
Holmes a lot of people say he enters the draft I guess it’s a waiting game with him, and in the guards you guys are going to have so many optiosn

Duke has always gotten guys to return who likely would have left, or should have left. Seems like Coach K would get one a year. I think Flip returning is dumb move on his part. That's the exact type of decision that turns into a player falling 10-15 spots the following year. Some of those guys, you never hear from again. The NBA drafts on potential, and potential goes out the door real quick when you show them too much of your game.

Here's why you can't trust mock drafts a year early: Jarace Walker.

Jarace was barely a top100 recruit, and not on any NBA mock drafts of any year.. Yet, he showed how good he was as just a freshman, and he now takes one of the lottery spots for the 2023 draft. There's going to be a few of these freshman next year, that show big potential, and steal some lottery spots.
Jarace was a top 10-15 recruit out of high school.

Ooops, that's my fault. I mistook ESPN's 92nd for his overrall ranking.

That said, I'm sure there's some freshman that's projected as a lottery pick who wasn't on anyones radar this time last year.

Jarace Walker was a top recruit but a guy like Taylor Hendricks fits your scenario. Was around a top 75 ranked kid and has what the NBA loves. Jeremy Sochan wàs that guy last year.

Yeah you got Hood-Schifino and Cam Whitmore.. both were around the 25th ranking, but I dont think either was on the NBA draft boards this time last year.

Point is, someone from this incoming freshman class, is going to show out, and push a lot of players down a spot, including Flip and Proctor. I'll be surprised if either of them are lotto picks next year. Proctor MAYBE, because he's still got a lot of game to show, especially if he takes over for Roach. But again, it's not like he wasn't already playing 30mpg and putting up close to 10 shots a game..
