For everyone complaining about the players making money and how much it costs to actually land top recruits, please realize that the top recruits have been paid for years. If Brian Bowen was worth $200k in the class of 2017, do you think Knox, Gilgeous-Alexander, Nick Richards and Quade Green were all just free. Keep in mind these kids play AAU together and they all know what others are doing. There is no way Kentucky and Duke have continued to get the top recruits and only LSU, Arizona and Kansas were paying kids. Maybe some schools have been better about distancing themselves from the payments, but there is no way that the top 5 kids go to UK or Duke and don't get paid, but a top 25 kid gets $200k.

Also, keep in mind, we have been caught paying Chris Mills and Albert Means (we paid this kid $20k and he still went to Alabama), so to say we don't pay kids is very naïve. When I was at UK in the late 50s, early 60s, the players for football and basketball were getting paid to be there. We like to act like we are a clean program, but there is no such thing. We have been as clean as everyone else, but that is like saying my *** smells better than yours. They both smell like an ***.

It's BEYOND ridiculous that NOTHING EVER happens to other schools for their NCAA violations COMPARED to UK. We are ALWAYS dumb enough to just TAKE whatever the NCAA handed out. Instead of the way UNC, Arizona, KU and LSU fight it by DENY, DENY, DENY!!!

UT has paid WAAAAAAAYYYY more than anyone else for YEARS and they NEVER lose ANYTHING!!!!

We’ve done shady stuff forever just like everyone else does. We didn’t stop in the 80s. So many stories so many could tell you as other schools’ locals could.

Had a buddy whose company had regular checks for Arkansas’ Todd Day’s parents. This type of crap just goes on all the time (same circle said Tony Delk’s parents were getting paid too).

College basketball and football are nothing but corruption. BS grades, cash under the table, money for their parents, etc. They’re hired mercenaries.

That's an assumption on your part. One could also argue that UL sucked and the only way they could get a top recruit was to buy them. Unless you have a shred of evidence your point is moot.

It’s been going on a long time. WWW was funneling players to Cow for a while. Do you think that was free?
NIL just raised the price IMO. Now that it’s legal people are asking for more money. Getting a guy cost more now that they can flat out ask for it.
Everyone likes to think that “their program” is squeaky clean.
I do agree that some programs were punished while others had a blind eye turned to their wrongdoing.

What NIL did is bring everyone to the table. There were a significant amount schools that weren’t going to pay for players pre NIL. Now they have the green light. It will level the field but UK, Duke and Kansas are still going to get theirs.

Recent years?? UK has had a top 3 recruiting pretty much since 2011. More times or not, they (or perhaps Duke) has been #1. So UK didn't cheat at all when they were pulling in all their 5 star kids? Or they stopped cheating in recent years? Pull your head out of the sand. All the big boys have been cheating for years and I think it makes you feel better about UK by saying "not as dirty".

Ok chief. I feel pretty good in general.

We had a quick path to the league to sell in the early Cal years. We started missing out on recruits, coinciding with Duke “stepping up their game” and documented paying of players by UL, AZ, KU, and many others.

Like I said, I think there have been arrangement or accommodations made by all teams. But until a few years ago, it was a little dangerous to write someone a 6 figure check for a 9 month rental.

It is beyond ignorant to think that all of the Nike schools were clean while the Adidas schools were dirty. The Adidas schools got caught because the FBI had a witness. They didn't have a Nike witness. It's as simple as that.

If the money comes from shoe companies or rich boosters, who cares. The problem with NIL is that schools have to have "collectives" who solicit money from regular fans to pay players. As if regular fans don't spend enough on tickets, travel to games, and so forth. They now have to open their pocketbooks to pay players.

Personally, I can’t see contributing to a collective so that college players can load manage or sit out bowl games. To each their own.
