She's won the SEC tournament. Never happened before. Better than anything our basketball or football program did in years. We let her go right now, we will get heat.

Sorry, that was a total fluke and the only reason it happened was because she had probably UK women's greatest ever player in R Howard along with D Edwards. Last years team had the talent to win in spite of Elzy's ineptitude as a coach. I would say things will get worse now, but they were already last in the SEC this year, it's hard to get worse than that.

I remember when UGAs men's team won the SEC tourney during the tornado year in Atlanta. They weren't close to the best team in the SEC that year. Flukes can happen, you can catch lightening in a bottle. It doesn't mean the program is headed in the right direction. Elzy was a terrible hire, best to admit it now and move on.

no total fluke at all. We WON that. South Carolina hasn't lost since. Stoops did far worse than her the first few years. We can't let her go. I'm telling you the media and people on the internet will make a deal of this.

When you do something well above what you accomplish as a routine, it's a fluke. Who cares what the media will think. Sorry to say, but it's still women's basketball, I don't think too many people will bat an eye. Just because people are all politically correct these days doesn't mean all of a sudden women's hoops has climbed in the pecking order at all in the grand scheme of sports. I follow it more than most just because it's UK and hoops. I like to see them do well even if I'm not a huge fan of the women's game. But I know where it stands.

BTW, Mark Stoops had literally an empty cubbard when he took the UK job talent-wise. Matthew Mitchell left the women's bb program on solid footing with quite a bit of talent, including eventual #1 WNBA draft pick Rhyne Howard. Not even remotely the same scenario.

No one cares enough about women’s basketball to make a big deal about a subpar coach being relieved of her duties. Outside of 1 hot weekend, and combined with players transferring in droves, the Elzy hire has been a disaster.

18-9 (9-6), 19-12 (8-8), 12-19 (2-14). The trend is pretty strong.

The Kentucky AD allowed three straight losing season for Coach Mattox so you have to expect they will do the same, given the minority status of the coach. Coach Fanning got one 14-14 season. Coach Hall never had a losing season. Coach Yow only had one season with a losing record and finished with a winning season. Coach Feamster, the first coach didn't have a losing season.

Mitch is just a lazy AD. He hired Elzy because she was already here and was the easiest option, gives Cow a big contract when he bluffed with UCLA, and gave Stoops a big contract when there was smoke that some other school MIGHT be interested.
He’s a complete joke.
Which is why you would never get close to being a competent AD...

You have to wonder why she is leaving, is it because she knows they can’t win here. Is it personal with Elzy, she got all of the minutes she wanted and was starting. This isn’t good, something is wrong here because there probably will be more to leave.

She won with Mitchell’s recruits.

Rhyne Howard team. First pick in WNBA draft. Give her credit but she’s done nothing since and likely won’t. Guess we’ll see.

Likely she didn’t want to share the back court with Maddie. Cause of portal now, she can try to find a team she can be the PG

That same media crucified Kentucky and BBN for Tubby leaving (on his own by the way, not fired). The media didn’t say anything when BCG got fired. Her record isn’t as good as BCG’s was. What’s the difference? Answer it for yourself.

Gillispie probably would’ve made it more than 2 years if he didn’t burn every bridge in Lexington and wasn’t a dick to everyone around him. That and UK men’s basketball has the highest standards in the country where our women’s team is historically mediocre.

edit: just realized you were suggesting it has something to do with race. You realize she’s not even the first black female coach for women’s basketball right?

Until Barnhart gets serious about WBB this will continue. We had big name coaches that wanted the job after the DeMoss fiasco. He wouldn’t interview them and hired Mitchell. While Mitchell had some success you could tell he couldn’t take the program to a consistent high level program. Elzy was put in a difficult position with the timing of Mitchell’s departure but she’s had time to make it her own program and it’s not working.

Your move Mitch!

I know that but why would anyone criticize Kentucky for firing someone for failing? Mitchell had Kentucky in the upper part of the sec and now they are dead last. Why criticize us for Tubby leaving? Kentucky wasn’t even a top program anymore, no top recruits we’re considering us anymore. BBN doesn’t care about a coach’s race, we just want Kentucky to be competitive. It’s not like Tubby was successful anywhere else after he left here. I was proud to have him as a coach until he started to let the program slip. I wish Joker would have been successful here, I really liked him as a coach because he was a former player. But his results weren’t acceptable.

Why are we just listing black coaches? Lol

She wasn’t hired because she is black and she won’t be fired because she’s black. Three years is pretty typical before getting the axe. She will probably have one more year to turn it around.

They wouldn’t bring someone new in now , as the program won’t even have a home court next yr due to memorial coliseum renovations . That’d be a tough chore for a first yr coach , and it’s also a big reason she may get a pass next yr as well . It‘ll be an odd, likely bad year next year …

When you're an AD and make the big bucks to make the sometimes difficult calls you can't worry about what the media says. His job is not to please the media. That's not his job! If he can't deal with a few things being said that's not positive toward him then it's time to go home or find another job. Sometimes, it just comes down to that. It's pretty simple actually. They'll be some that'll say they fired her because she's black, but nobody will mention that nobody cared that much about her being black when UK hired her. We just wanted to win so she got her chance and it's been a damn disaster.

Aside from lighting in the bottle of the SEC tournament last year. They bowed out a week later in the big dance to a team they should have beat. Then a slew of players transfer and thats the one thing I'll give her a pass on because the transfer thing is out of control everywhere and kids are transferring just for the hell of it now everywhere you look. So for the ppl who say let her get her own players give me a break. She recruited alot of the players that ppl call Mitchell's players. She was already here and familiar with them and how things where done.

When you can't keep up what was handed to you and that includes the no. 1 WNBA pick, or improve on what was already in the process then it's clear already. You don't need to get 4-5 yrs to see what it's gonna become. It's been set in motion and it's already been totally undone in 2 years. Besides, nobody will really honestly give a **** who the UK wonens basketball coach is. They'll be over it in 10 mins. 😂

In your first paragraph if I didn’t know better I would’ve thought you were talking about CCC.

The men aren’t in this bad of shape , have the #1 class and their story isn‘t written this yr, yet . That’s another thing with the women …they have 1 player signed for 2023 class . Idk if they expected to have a roster squeeze or what . Also , the media wouldnt care if Cal got fired …they’d write about it , tho

Yeah that why I said AD though. I just used the phrase "that why he makes the big bucks" even though he makes the little bucks compared to Cal. Either way that's his job and why he is paid $1.2 mil a yr. and probably gets 2 vehicles, country club memberships and all that good **** plus how much ever he takes under the table on tickets and any other deals he gets. It's kind of crazy to think the boss makes 8-9 million less than the guy who supposedly works for him, if you will.
