Did Bob Knight ever bench a dude who was averaging 13.3 rebounds per game? Didn't think so...

He cannot guard a pole and cannot score over length. That's not an opinion, that's a cold hard fact. No saying bench him rest of season. One game to send a message like Cal did with Toppin.
The score over length weakness can be addressed even by keeping him on the court. Just don't run so much offense through Oscar post ups when the matchup isn't favorable. Let him do things off the ball that he is great at, like go after offensive rebounds.

Changing how we defend pick and rolls can mitigate some of the defensive issues. Arkansas still shot over 60% at the rim when Oscar was not in the game. That says that there are points to be gained by adjusting defensive decision making when in pick and rolls, not just personnel.

The offensive and defensive decisions we make are a bigger impediment than things like effort and toughness to our success.

Oscar had his 15 minutes, and it was far better than most 15s ever get to be. He’s not the same this year, even though the numbers don’t look that different. Multiply players, likely yearly across the NCAA, average 12 or 13 dot something rebounds a year. Only Oscar cracked over 15. He even offered some rim protection last year. Not UK standard rim protection, but better than what I think were expecting. I think the knee has slowed him down. I think the way the season kicked off with the various setbacks, shook him a bit. Not really making the NBA conversation was a real death knell though. In a way, I kind of want to see him comeback again, because that could track as one of the best comeback stories of all time. Would be amazing to watch if it could unravel.

Oscar is a great one off to understanding why Zion is such a spectacle. Oscar is a human Adonis, same type of middle power as Zion, and he can’t even do what Zion can do. And Zion is only in half as good of shape as Oscar.

I’ve got a weird disconnect with Oscar this year because I can’t put together how a kid that can seem so smart in certain ways, be so dumb at certain parts of basketball. The easiest explanation is that his head isn’t in it this. The real answer is something similar to that, but far, far more complicated.

Are you kidding?!!!
Knight did it all the time to make his point!!!
I swear, some of you shouldn't be discussing college basketball!
Who did Knight put on the bench and not play that was averaging at least 13 rebounds? Not some run of the mill player like Uwe Blab or Giomi [he actually kicked Giomi off the team] but a dude who was averaging at least 13 rebounds a game. Take your time, we'll wait...
