Victor wembanyama, #1 draft prospect

I have next to no interest in the NBA, but since ESPN had a big mock draft headline up I thought I would look around.

Victor wembanyama seems to be the consensus #1 pick. Taller, somehow even more lanky Chet Holmgren.

I don’t know how the NBA could possibly think that drafting these dudes who clearly have Marfan Syndrome could possibly be a good idea. They may never add weight. Their connective tissue will always be a problem. Even their organs will be prone to failure (happened to a 7 foot something player at Baylor not long ago).

Maybe the NBA franchises think they can give these guys the right combination of training and drug cocktails to keep their bodies from falling apart by 25, but I don’t see these types of situations working out well for anyone involved.

No ill will to anyone but it's been my opinion since I became away of Chet that he wouldn't have a very long career.

Victor's frame seems a lot better to me than Chet's at the same stage. Chet makes me uncomfortable when I look at him and Victor doesn't have the same effect on me.

Wouldn't be surprised if Victor can fill out a bit and be similar to the Greek freak in build.

Have you not seen any clips? The guy moves like a guard. Now, I do think he needs to stop growing. There comes a point where you outgrow your athleticism.

14-24 years old is basically the healthiest most humans could ever be. You can be healthy those years no matter what may be fundamentally flawed with your physiology. I’m not debating his talent or his skill. I’m saying there’s almost no chance that him/Holgrem/whoever else is built like a weeping willow tree can stay healthy for a long NBA career. Look up Marfan. Look at those pictures. Look at these players. Read the basics. Tell me I’m wrong.

And before someone gets all one in a million on me: yes, McCarty was a string bean. As was Davis. A) I hate when people try to use the exception to dismiss the rule B) Even those two guys weren’t built like spaghetti with a skeleton.

I’ve seen videos and it’s almost a shame he’s so tall. One guy broke down the stats on height vs career longevity and the odds are really against him. Some are claiming he’s taller than 7’4” based on group pictures and lying about it to make him look like a better pick.

His dad is 6’6 and was a professional long jumper. Mom was 6’3”. If he has Marfan’s, he’ll be diagnosed by MRI before he can even take part in the draft. He doesn’t seem to have any vision issues or genetic links to Marfan Syndrome. I’m skeptical to his longevity, but you have to take that shot if you’re an NBA team and he’s cleared.

Dude is a phenom. His size with guard skills. Can handle and shoot. He stays healthy, he could end up being the GOAT. Lot of ifs but he is impossible to pass on, just because of the immense upside. Got to gamble on him.

He does NOT “clearly have Marfan syndrome” and you claiming he does …with absolutely no medical evidence to back it up …is just irresponsible ******** on your part. You’re making a fool of yourself.

I said on here year's ago that Chet's health will be a major issue and most acted like I was crazy. It isn't anything he can control. Sad but it just is what it is.

Vw looks completely different to me. Looks more sturdy and imo will have a window of time where he can be legit awesome. Doubt it will be long term

You know what, you’re right. I don’t have medical diagnosis in my hand. I have been speaking in hyperbole a lot lately. I don’t think a person can be built that way without Marfan, but maybe they can. I should have just said that it seems impossible that a guy that tall, thin, and elongated could survive the rigors of the NBA for very long. I’m also afraid that pro basketball is going to get someone killed on the court because of genetic issues they choose to ignore.

How many prominent basketball players have actually been diagnosed with Marfan syndrome in recent times? The ONLY one I can think of is Isaiah Austin at Baylor about a decade ago, That’s it. Can you name any others?

For you to just blindly claim that this kid “clearly” has it …apparently based on nothing more than the fact that he’s really tall and skinny …is flat out ridiculous.

That’s why your not a GM. Watch wembanyama highlights, you will clearly understand why he is the clear cut number one pick

While I do worry about Wembys frame in the long haul.. he's an absolute freak of a specimen, probably 2nd only to LeBron over the last 20 years.

When you're 7-2 with an 8 foot wingspan and skills like a guard.. you take that. A player like him could be a literal cheat-code for whatever team he lands on. And it's very poetic that a player like him is coming in as LeBron winds down. From one once-in-a-generation talent to another

I also think Scoot Henderson is about as good of a consolation prize as you can get. I'd be happy with either for the Houston Rockets.

That kid is the best prospect in the history of the sport, you’re a F’ing moron.
I’ll let his Career play out before announcing him as the best prospect ever. LeBron is still the most dominating high school player I’ve ever seen and he panned out exactly how he looked. This kid is unbelievable but I won’t say he’s #1 and it’s not close.

From what he's displayed and his measureables he is certainly the best prospect out there and I don't think it is close. Doesn't mean he'll pan out that way but you'll likely look foolish if you selected someone ahead of him.

Marfans Syndrome involves more than just height. Wembanyama doesn't have the bones associated with Marfans. (They often seem as if they've grown independently rather than symmetrically.) He looks simply like an ordinary -- very tall -- person.

On30 recruiting rankings just kept Bradshaw as the #1 player in our recruiting class. They said that he has good feet, a good shooting touch and protects the rim well. Mentioned his upside will just make him that much better as he learns.

Chet, same as, but opposite direction as, Zion. Zion was/is an athletic freak even when compared to other pro-athletes. But the human body, the joints (knees/ankles) and feet, are not made to take the pounding that a man that size can create when he goes up that high with such explosion. So for him to stay healthy enough to consistently contribute, he was either going to have to A) lose some of that athleticism (but that is what made him so good), or B) lose like 40 lbs (like Barkley did). Chet on the other hand needs to fill out, to go up against grown *** men (a collision between him and Zion might send Chet to the ER). And not just muscle, but yeah muscle too. Maybe not as much as Davis has, I think AD has gone too far and is too tight which is causing his injuries. Durant should be more Holmgren's body type goal. I think this French kid may be much like Chet.

But you got to draft the kid #1. The question is, what if a team offers you an incredible package for the #1 pick. Something insane (that is under contract for awhile) like Tatum & Brown, or KAT & Edwards, or maybe even Bam & Herro, then do you take it? You have to consider it at least.

These rankings are LONG TERM rankings. Next year Bradshaw will backup Onyenso, who will be more ready than Bradshaw to contribute.

This looks to be a strong draft class and with guys that aren’t in college .

Victor
Scoot Henderson
Thompson Twins( Both look like studs)

Then mix in some college guys like Brandon Miller and Nick Smith(Hard to tell with him since he’s been hurt)

Wembanyama is the most talked about recruit since LeBron. If you have the first pick you can get an all-timer or someone who will have a career of injuries, regardless no one is going to look back and say that taking him at #1 was the wrong decision because of how talented he is currently mixed with the type of potential he has.

Victor has been balling out against grown men since he was like 14, similar to Luka. Kid is going to be special. Scoot would easily be the #1 overall pick in almost any other draft and no one is even batting their eye at him for #1. That's how good Victor is already.

Only difference is I am nearly certain chet cannot put on weight due to his medical condition.

I understand and agree you have to draft someone like him, but you do so knowing someone like chet probably has 3-5 years tops. Yes I know it might sound unfair because he can't control his physical limitations, but neither can someone who is lacks height.

Victor Wembanyana is a generational talent. His ability is more than worth the gamble in the eyes of most NBA front offices.

I’m not saying this guy is gonna be a bust, or that he has Marfan syndrome, but some of y’all sound like broken records. How many times does a prospect have to be hyped up as the best thing since LeBron? How many of them of flopped vs succeeded? I’ll wait and see with this guy, based on the history of the sport I’m skeptical that he’ll have a long career.

The ones who have been widely proclaimed to be the best prospects since LeBron were Anthony Davis, Zion, and Emoni Bates. Two of those three are all-star caliber players and the other one has definitely been disappointing but still has talent and will be drafted.

The other one I'd add is Andrew Wiggins.. and while he didn't live up to the hype, he did carve himself a nice career. But he was said to be THE next Lebron.

Every year has some promising elite recruits, but since Lebron, there's only a handful of can't miss guys. Wemby is one of them. You take the risk, or whatever risk there is. Because he could be unstoppable if he pans out. He has a Lebron-type physical presence that will be very tough to contain. Where as Lebron was a 6'8 freight train with handles..

Wemby is similar. If he can handle and shoot as well as they say, there's just not a lot that other teams can do to stop him. He's a mismatch nightmare.
