We really should be careful using this word “need” in regard to Wheeler. He hurts the team. He’s the main reason we’ve lost so many games. I’ve argued before, and will keep doing so - if the dude wasn’t in our roster we’d not only be fine - we’d be better. Now there are two games of unquestionable evidence to support that.
By "need" I mean a game where Wallace and one of the other guards gets into foul trouble and/or injured.
It will happen at some point in SEC play guaranteed.
We will need him to at least be serviceable at that point.

Sometimes one can be upset at themselves and their own play . He got yanked after a lazy entry pass ended up as a turnover …
Yep. Idk how many times he’s made that same lazy *** entry pass to Oscar that gets stolen. Seems like he’s done it 50 times this season.

Wheeler peaked in his Sophomore year. Never improve his game. Sadly, Reality set in that he is no longer PG1. If not careful Theiro will be taken more of his minutes.

I’ve been watching how he reacts tonight while on the bench. He doesn’t seem happy about not getting any playing time the second half and is hardly cheering on his teammates that are on the court.
What would our body language be if an entire fan base were telling you were the sole reason the team was losing? I dont mean that as a shot to you or any body else, just mean it as a part of reality of what maybe goind through his head. That would be devastating to have to hear. This is the part of life you're supposed to be enjoying and building memories for a lifetime and his maybe I"M FAILING and I"M THE PROBLEM. I feel for the guy too.

Its not like he hasnt had his moments for us either. Usually his best games have been in bad losses where he was one of the only bright spots and nobody else stepped up at all. The Duke beat down comes to mind.

Until I see Wallace and Theiro get comfortable against full court pressure/presses Wheeler is a nice security blanket to have on the bench.

If Wallace is in foul trouble, while the other guards can be an emergency PG, I think I'd rather go with Wheeler if more than 3-4min. Theiro did not look comfortable at the PG. The other 2 it takes them out of looking for their shot. And Wallace leads our team in fouls (have we ever had a guard do that?), granted some have been phantom fouls, they were called nonetheless.

But I am curious, what has been the biggest mid-season reduction in PT (not injury related) by a UK player? At any other school? I'm sure there have been some, but I can't think of any.
What if you rule out examples where the reduction was due to another player returning from injury or from being ineligible 1st semester.

I really can't think of another UK player that has gone from 38 minutes a game down to 5 during the season based on performance.

Ronnie Lyons played in the NCAA tourney game against Fly Williams' Austin Peay team and continuously brought the ball up against AP full-court pressure, as Jimmy Dan Connor and Mike Flynn struggled against the pressure. We won 106-100 in overtime. Also, Larry Stamper came in and got crucial rebounds and putbacks. We would have been eliminated without Lyons' ball-handling and Stamper coming off the bench to help save the day. Wheeler, likewise, may be needed in much the same way, but he MUST hit his free-throws, of course.
